I love the movies of the Hobbit, and LOTR, I have the books, have not read them, got them after watching the movies last year, for the 1st time. And Hollyweird has been making movies that don't match the book, for a long time. LOL One of my favorite books of all time is The Hunt For Red October, I have read it about 15 times in the last 30 years. Read it when it first came out. When you read the book, it has a ton of technical stuff, but Tom Clancy could make peanut butter ingredients fascinating. LOL And to make a book accurate movie, it would have had to have been 10 hours long, or a mini series. But the movie was pretty good, I can live with it, and one change to the movie, from the book, really did not sit well with me. So I am used to not even close to book accurate movies. Judge each on their own merits. Sometimes the book and the movie both suck or one redeems the other. Way different mediums, and that is just the way it is. But it is Sean Connery and Sam Neill, so all is well. LOL And also, there was stuff from the ROTK appendices, that Jackson used to upgrade the story. Sure, Legolas is not there, Tauriel is not there, and Bolg was the evil dude and stuff. But if you have not read the books, the movies are very good, I like the Hobbit movies better than the LOTR, but I think both sets of movies are brilliant and better than almost any other thing Hollyweird puts out, especially now. And I can say that, I have been watching movies and TV since the 60s. Not a big fan of fantasy, still not (and why I didn't watch either set of movies until last year, just happened to catch Desolation Of Smaug and I got into all the movies after that), but the Hobbit and LOTR are diamonds out of coal.
@jamesschmidt6993

Most of the stuff put in the movie (except for the Legolas plot) was in the books Unfinished Tales and The Similrilian. All in all, it's a great adaptation of the book.

@@elizabeths50 I love the stories in the books, but the books are kind of tough to get through because Tolkien does a lot of imagery in them. At one point he spends like three paragraphs describing the leaves on the trees, or something equally inane, in Fellowship. That said, I feel The Hobbit is a good read and pretty quick. Fellowship is a slog, especially the middle part (which isn't in the movies). Two Towers I blasted through because there was a lot of action/suspense in it. Return of the King...the first half I breezed through, then the second half slowed WAAYYYY down and was again a slog. I'm happy I read them and think everyone should, but I am hard-pressed to recommend reading them.

Well no, Thorin II grandfather Thror had brother Gror who was grandfather of Dáin II, but if Dáin II had died too in the battle of the five armies, then kingship would have moved to Thrors and Grors father Dáins brother Borin and Borin was grandfather of Fundin and Gróin. •The twirly-whirlies were Peter Jackson, but I like them. It makes sense that the Dwarves would have developed a means of countering the Elves. •That troll has the worst job in the army. I have spoken. •The "war machines" are the trolls who have been weaponized. •Bombour's horn solo and then the Dwarves rallying to their King is my favorite scene of the movie. •ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H1589qbXUGo.html Once again, a link to a scene that was cut from even the Extended Edition. Thranduil has known great love and how it feels to lose it. It is why he clings so tightly to the White Gems. They were for her. •Yeah, Legolas, whose not suppose to be here anyway, is very OP. •Yes, the 5th Army is the Eagles plus Beorn and Radagast the Brown •"Child of the kindly West, if more of us valued your ways, food and cheer over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell" Famous last words of Thorin, son of Thrain, King Under the Mountain and spoken to his friend Bilbo Baggins, Master of Bag End. •I like the films. I know they take creative liberties from the book, but I'm not a Tolkien Purist.

Theres a great subplot thats not fully understood, but when you do, you love this movie all the more. The gems that Thranduil wants belonged to his wife. The statue that Gandalf finds vandalized by orcs outside of Mirkwood is of her. There was a great short scene you can find in the deleteds where Gandalf asks Thranduil "Those gems weren't all your wife left you. She left you a son. Which do you value more?" It's a very small line, but has a big impact. Also, the part where Thranduil tells Legolas "Your mother loved you."is important because he never spoke about his mother. But you can clearly see on Legolas's face that it isn't enough. He wanted his father to say that he loved him.

Yeah, everyone knows only the dwarves were skilled enough to make mandalorian armour. And the stingy dwarves cut the mandalorians off culminating in the great dwarf- Mandalorian war.

People always seem to be debating how exactly the five armies are divided up in the movie, like whether the two different groups of orcs make the fourth and fifth, or the eagles are the fifth, or whatever. The movies are of course a slightly different version of the universe, so this may not be so relevant, but in the book the five armies are laid out like this: “So began a battle that none had expected; and it was called the Battle of Five Armies, and it was very terrible. Upon one side were the Goblins and the wild Wolves, and upon the other were Elves and Men and Dwarves.” The wolves/wargs in the book are actually more of an intelligent independent faction which often cooperates with the goblins/orcs, rather than just animals that they rides around. They have their own language and everything, though Gandalf is the only one in the company who understands it lol. In fact, the eagles in the book are also much more of characters than they are in the movies. They talk, and they have their own king and their own eagle things to do, they mostly just get involved cause they hate goblins and kind of consider it their job to keep them in check, they aren’t really at the beck and call of the wizards like it seems like in the book, though they are friendly with them. I know this still isn’t a perfect answer, but I like to think that the eagles didn’t fly them to Mordor because they weren’t at the council of Elrond! (Of course, the gang probably still could have sent a message and asked the eagles, but you know, stealth mission, fell beasts, yadda yadda lmao. In fact I’m looking at the chapter with the eagles in The Hobbit right now and they refuse to set the company down near a human village cause they don’t want to get shot at by just humans with their bows, so they would probably have had a reasonable fear of getting shot down in Mordor anyway lol) Long story short, a lot more animals talk in the books. Like the ravens that send messages between the dwarves before the battle, and the thrush that tells Bard Smaug’s weak point.

A sad tidbit is that some of the dwarves here are the skeletons and grave that the original Fellowship encounters in the Mines of Moria.

Wow, as always, I loved your reactions! It has been such a pleasure to watch this trilogy (and LOTR) with you, you made it all the more enjoyable! I actually loved the Hobbit movies as oppose to others even though it deviated from the book but I still prefer LOTR a bit more 😂 I will definitely be watching your other reaction videos, you are sosososo sweet and so nice to listen to :)

I think it's poetic that the cost of securing the kingdom of Erebor was the family line. It shows how hard the task was to achieve.

Thorin was never a slave. He only worked as smith to earn during his travels becouse he lost his kingdom. Actualy Thorin's first support was Gandalf but Thorin seldom listened to his advice.

The Hobbit movies may not be as grand or epic in scale or as well animated as LOTR, but damn do they feel like one fun DnD session.

I always got confused about the number of armies too, but there are 2 armies of orcs since one came from Dol Guldur and one came from Gundabad.

I think the Eagles are considered the fifth army as they comes to battle with their King (Gwaihir). Beorn was alone but he was a one man army lol. The death of Thorin in the book was much more emotional to me (although the movie did it very well too as I teared up as well). Maybe because hen reading the book you create stronger bond with the characters. To me both the book and the movie death scene actually made the part of the movie (at the end where Bilbo is not able to answer directly who Thorin was because of his grief), much more powerful), I actually choked up there too.

The five armies are dwarfs, elves, men, goblins and wolves. The hobbits call the orcs goblins but everyone else calls them orcs. The wargs are giant monstrous wolves.
