Dan, please wear a respirator!!!! Not just a mask because, it’s likely that the residual paint is lead base. Cheers mate!

Good advice- also Dan, you should take off the bracelets that you`re wearing. They hang down a lot and could get caught in the machinery. Only takes a millisecond.

Well it’s not just the questionable paint - there’s the fire. My insurance company made us all wear respirators to go in and clear out the stuff.

Partner organisation of ours lost a guy in a machine due to a dangling chord on his clothing getting caught. We are told he bled out. Slowly. These are guys who were ex soldiers, had survived all sorts of rubbish. And went out like that. His friend who was with him at the time came and told us all about it in order to try and stop it happening again. Please please please, anyone working with machinery, take your safety seriously.

Our house has been here, just 10 clicks from France, for more than 800 years. And yes we did the whole thing, restoring and keeping the original features. We found 13th century tunnels and more, and because we are in a town center had the "full treatment" of the local community hotel de ville, etc etc etc . And, I am fluent in French, as is my beautiful wife. I admire your courage and subscribed to your channel, and as a older man I tell you, if you get this done before I cross the Styx I will personally come to your place with a really good bottle of wine. So go for it, I will be watching 🙂 Nothing beats ambition and hard work, believe me, I know ....

As a timber kit business in the UK that manufactures oak windows, doors etc truly impressed with your expertise for no formal training with the most basic of tool sets. I will enjoy winding up the cabinet maker apprentices tomorrow to show them up as to how it should be done! Certainly think that the priority would be table routers so that you can create jigs so that you can set once and repeat as a production line. On our heritage sites (new build in a conservation or replacement of listed buildings) we utilise krypton gas filled units with 3mm clear glass to give us a 10mm glazing unit. The benefit is that these slim line units have a superior U value compared to standard width glazing units. Hope that helps?

Nice job. Some tips to save you time though: (1) When you're taking the windows apart, a clamp flipped around so it expands rather than contracts will save you loads of time rather than hammering them apart using a block of wood. Get two and do the entire window in one go just by spreading them apart nice and gently. (2) If you're doing a whole lot of these (and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are), go get a router table and then you can do everything much more easily and without having to worry about whether you're getting your profiles perfect with the handheld. (3) Set up jigs for depth (a piece of wood with each profile correctly routed will do) so that you can easily set up each bit every time. (4) do a whole bunch of each piece at the same time so you are using your planer and router more efficiently.

I think he has the ability to make his own router table with what he has, looks like the router has the bolt holes to be attached u der a surface with the bit coming up through a central hole, then pegs for a guide rail and jigs like you suggest, would speed everything up massively

Hi Dan, You must wear a mask when you are working. All that old wood you are restoring is full of fungus and spores. Also, PLEASE REMOVE those dangling bracelets on your right wrist. They are an extreme safety hazard to get caught in a power tool. Since you are working on the estate by yourself if you were to have an accident it could be a very unfortunate situation. He will put what looks like kindling together to restore an ancient antique to look like new, stand back when it's finished, and exclaim,"Pretty Good!", which is always an understatement. My 16 new shutters cost $10,500.00, painted. The old ones which were 46 years older when replaced his year cost $300.00 in 1976. The house cost $20K. Now they run $700K to $900K. I am watching this on my big screen TV and loving all of Amaury's knowledge. I took carpentry in my 20's and would love some good tools to renovate my retirement home 🏡

I do love watching a craftman at work! I so admire you,Dan like you try to tackle every project yourself! The window looked great after you renovated it! Must have been a very proud and satifying moment!

Wow, that turned out beautifully! I hope the success of your channel makes it possible to buy some fun tools and task lighting. These beautiful windows will be a great way to keep going when the weather is gross. Well done!

Don’t let it overwhelm you mate! You are right, new custom wood windows, they are through the roof expensive! I am glad you are enjoying the journey of restoring the place! Cheers! Thomas!
