My father originally owned mine, I'm the second owner. I've been with the car from day one when my dad and I left the dealership. It has seen many states over the years being an 01' Hyundai Santa Fe GLS in silver. It has 268,255 miles on it as of today and has towed late in its life. When the navy started moving me around the country. It's been very reliable. One day I hope either I can upgrade or at least Hyundai would tear it apart to see how well the parts lasted.

John Cantu I just purchased the an 01 Santa Fe GL FWD 1.4L 4-cyl off of my mother last week. 149K miles on it and I just got the oil changed this week. It is front wheel drive, and it does feel like it. but it's one of the best handling FWD cars I have ever seen. Compared to an 07 Sebring my sister owns, it actually has less understeer compared to the car. I am surprised at how well my suspension performs, especially on dirt and gravel surfaces. As a relatively new driver, I do admit there have been some moments that I have taken turns quite too quickly. but the center of mass is absolutely great in such a tall car. it stuck to the roads at all times, and suspension travel is just enough to keep it firm and planted. I love it, I outright love it.

The 2.7 V6 Delta engine was great and they still have them here in Oz with 320 and 350 thousand kilometers on them. Don't know about the other engines but the fact heaps of these with the 2.7 are STILL getting around fairly often just shows they DID prove themselves. Even if they look strange with all that buldging and arching.
@startube2788
@startube2788 3 года назад
no they don't look strange, they look modern for their year. In Europe this SUV can be found with your 2.7 v6 but also with 2.4 4 cylinders, rare models have even a 2.0 gasoline engine. The most popular engine in Europe for this car is a 4 cylinder 2.0 diesel, which is also very reliable, most of them having over 300k kms on the odo. Good car, nice interior!

Got 1 2001 diesel manual, in mars 2022 it passed 380.000km, still kicking good in the hills. Deasent fuel economy, and reliable. Got 2 2003 diesel automatic. both passed 340.000km this winther, a bit sloppy gearboxes, but reliable. Got 1 2004 diesel automatic, bought as roadleagal donorcar. 125hp, and cheaper to run than the other 2. Got 1 2005 diesel manual. Bought as a donor car, with low milage, and a broken clutch. Got a different 4x4 system, wil renew the clutch, and keep it togheter with the oldest of them. ;) Ps, I am not driving them all by myself. Girlfriend, and my father, is helping me out...

my friend has had one for ten years... asked me to help him replace the radiator... omg, see the tutorials here on youtube. all day job for the amateur. thats just crazy, radiator on my honda passport was like 2 bolts for a hold down bracket, lift it out, drop in the new one.Theres no reason for it other than poor design. Hopelessly difficult access to parts you know will need replacing?

Managed to change a rad out in an hour. You got to be brave and bend the centre front post towards you and out of the way and it lifts straight up and out. There is a RU-vid of a guy doing it that way. Get a cheap set of hose clip pliers for the lower pipe clips. Mine is a 2002 petrol 2.4L with 82,000 on the clock. unlike the more recent ones, everyting on this generation of hyundais can be repaired. the second gen were the worse, with more engine failures, and the rest is mostly electronics issues taking over the hardware. a bit like me using an old brother laser color printer that outlasted HPs and Epsons. Some maintenance but still works as the first day! God I love that printer, the smell of warm paper out of the tray~
