quieter for the neighbours,but i think exhaust note needs to be loud,tells a pilot the health of the motor,including impending failure,plus the rotors cant be muffled,unless you encounter engine failure.quiet flight best enjoyed in a glider.
Thats what the gauges and periodic/hourly maintenance are for. Besides, you cant use your ear to diagnose anything on the air, the headsets and noise cancelling electronics are supposed to suppress most noise
We did us a noise meter, the problem is it picks up the Rotorhead and tail. If we do it right at the exhaust outlet the standard muffler was I think 129bd and ours was 92bd But again I don't think these are accurate. We do need to setup a proper test. I do know we only had a 1/4 psi back pressure difference and its much better on the ears During the flyby we got 79db on both ships so that must be the rotorhead.
