I agree with everyone about your afghan, Michelle, don't rip it out. It is gorgeous! I think the reason the circles look so large is because of the dark yarn uniting the whole piece. If it were a little wider, perhaps it would balance out the motifs. However, I wouldn't bother with that now and just continue. It's something to keep in mind for the next one. I love the puffy one, too, so much so I might make one. You guys had me laughing out loud today. I so enjoy your podcast every time. I'd like to recommend to everyone a yarn I discovered through a local yarn shop that I've been using in my fingerless miitts. It is Great Southern Yarn DK made in Australia by Mulberry and Flax. It's a self-striping yarn in colorways inspired by the paintings of individual artists. 50/50 merino/alpaca--warm--210 y/100 g skein. The yarn is so soft and knits up beautifully. I've used it a lot as the contrast color in the Turn-A-Square beanies I've knitted for the family this year. It looks really nice as the main color, too. Yesterday, I took out my handknit socks and moved them to my sock drawer. I've got my Magdalena Socks on that I made out of Tukuwool Sock from a kit I ordered from The Wooly Thistle. I love these socks because of the wool; it's incredibly warm and light. I can remember thinking I would love to make a cardigan in the same pattern and colorway I chose for the socks. I would wear it all the time. It's warm and beautiful. It would be heirloom knitting for sure. I wish you both a wonderful Christmas with family and friends + holiday nog. Stay safe and healthy for more antics in the new year. Love you both and thank you for hours of laughter and good knits. --KateColors 🎄
Wow. Beautiful knits, crochets and yarns. Lovely minis. Lovely sweater Leslie. Michelle, your blanket is beautiful. Leave it and do a black border around the whole thing when completed. Michelle, the Barnyard Knits yarn reminded me of the ocean. And I thought they would look nice in the Ripple 2 blanket by Lucy of Attic 24. Nice, soft waves where the yarn interchanges with each other. I've made it a few times for the grandkiddies, in washable yarns. For all the knitting I've done especially socks, I have never used self-striping yarn. I use 9 inch circulars and am thinking of getting more of them. Happy Holidays from Canada.
Michelle, I agree with others about don't rip the big-circle afghan! The big circles are pretty and original. Also, the afghan you sent your daughter is gorgeous! All the finished and unfinished objects look great. Leslie, the soft cap is perfect because it is soft. I like the top you're wearing, by the way, including the lacy part of sleeves.
The blanket is totally beautiful! The large circles are perfection and the black and white are the best choice to complement all your beautiful colors.
Merry Christmas Michelle and Leslie!! I love seeing all of your projects. I have been knitting and crocheting for 58 years, and it always puzzles me why I don't have one crocheted afghan! I have always given them away. I finally have one on the go for myself, so thank you Michelle, for the inspiration!! I'm crocheting the granny ripple and love it! I don't really need anything, but I absolutely love those top frame bags you showed! They remind me of the purses my mom used to carry. ❤ God bless you both!!
Another great episode ladies!!! If I could choose anything, it would definitely be minis because you inspire me with your mini projects!!! Have a wonderful holiday season!
Noooooo! Please don’t rip out your lovely Afghan it’s gorgeous Michelle.I am making the anthology throw with my advent yarn, I’ve only had one colour run out but is having leftovers. Planning to make the 24 day socks by potter and bloom with the leftovers. Loving all your pretty advent colours just gorgeous xx
Hi ladies, The Knitting Posse ladies are knitting the Gingham sweater you mentioned. Very pretty. Such beautiful makes ladies - all of them. All the best! Sheila
I've been married for just over two years now and my husband and I have a one year old son and are expecting our second child (a girl!) in March. My husband works very hard so that I can be a full-time mom and homemaker. We are extremely blessed to have bought a house when we got married, and have enough money for food, mortgage, bills, etc. However, because we're a single-income, quickly growing household, we don't have much to spend on the luxuries. I've been loving watching lots of Vlogmasses, and I have to say, my yarn-y wish is to have an yarn advent calendar. It's so much fun to watch people open their yarns each day and add them to their projects. I love surprises and the thought of having something special to look forward to and work on each day is very enticing. More than that, for the last year or two, I've been wanting to make some kind of scrappy blanket (maybe a cozy memories, or granny stripe), but I just don't have nearly enough leftovers to make that happen. A big bag of leftovers would be a dream come true.
I applaud your decision to stay home! Leslie and I were both blessed to be able to do so and we’re so happy we did. I know- I talk like we’re a couple 😂 but I know I’m safe in speaking on her behalf on this. Send me your address to knottyknitwits@gmail.com
@@KnottyKnitWits I've been watching you ladies for a few months now, and always appreciate when you talk about being homeschool stay-at-home moms (I was homeschooled all the way and am planning to homeschool my children). Thank you so much for responding! I just emailed you.
Michelle you’re cray cray! Don’t rip out that afghan! It’s beautiful. Just use some of those minis to make a smaller circle one later. Believe it or not I’ve only bought indie dyed yarn a hand full of times. It’s just a budget thing at this time of my life. I use knit picks, lion brand, hobby lobby. It wears well and it’s allowed me to be a knitter on my skinny budget. I still love to see all the beautiful yarns, but I’ve been happy with my love of knitting with what I’ve been able to afford. Merry Christmas,!!
There are fabulous affordable yarns out there. To be honest, there’s a part of me that wishes I’d just stayed with those. The yarn became a bit of an addiction and with the hand dyed I think you kind of fall into a ‘I have to get it now because it won’t be available later’ whereas the commercial yarns are far more readily available. Then I’d see something pretty and think I had to get it. I’m STILL trying to teach myself that just because something is pretty doesn’t mean I have to get it. I hate that I’ve been an over~ consumer 😂 The only saving grace is that I tell myself I’ve supported small businesses 😂😂😂
Hello from WI. Thank you for the latest video. Love to see the projects both finished and in progress. Your blanket for your daughter is beautiful! You both pick such great projects and share information which is so helpful. If I was wishing, it would self striping yarn, or some linen will yarn. Hope you both happy holiday.
Michelle and Leslie, you two have patterns of habit that are so funny! Michelle, you get so far into a GORgeous project, and then you second guess whether you like it and start contemplating the big frog! Please, nooooo! It's really beautiful! And Leslie, you are the queen of adding more colors to get enough yardage, then decide..."meh." Lol! I agree with Michelle on this one, keep your delicate sweater 1 color. PurlSoho will get more :) I am searching for Grinchy striped sock yarn that isn't the super thin 460's yards. My best frind from high school has sz 12 feet (best balance ever!) and she so appreciates hand knit socks because, ash she says, "women's socks are just a bit too tight, and men's socks are always a little big, but the ones you make fit just right!" So I ry to make them every Christmas and birthday, but this year I didn't find in time good Grincy stripes. If you know where I can find the good plump 80/20 in Grincy or Whoville, please forward the source to me..that's all I want :)
I'd LOVE to take part in the fullfill a wish idea with you ladies ... I, like you, have far more yarn than I can possibly use. Thanks for sharing and I hope you both have a lovely holiday!
First, thank you for ANOTHER great chat! And I have never gotten to knit with minis. Can you imagine? I am retired and knit on a bleak budget so, pretty much no frills. So it would be great to have some minis to just have fun with. Thanx for asking! Have a wonder filled Christmas.
Hello from Richmond, Texas. First, the blanket with the circles looks great, please finish it, you won’t regret that. Second, I would buy a set of wooden double pointed needles in small sizes, or a set of Interchangeable shorties in small sizes. Happy Holidays!
Michelle, I completely agree about the pressure of making the blanket...but it turned out so beautiful!!! Your daughter will always treasure it! Leslie, I get what you mean about the Woolfolk Luft yarn...It does not give you that clean stitch definition. I've used it on two cowls. I haven't tried Woolfolk Far yet! The Sport weight of the Upcycle yarn could be good for the Sophie Scarf! I just love all of the blankets you are making!!
Michelle, your crochet blanket that you made for Renatta turned out beautiful. I knew it would. I have a brand new grandson this Christmas and i have had so much fun knitting for him and crocheting amigurumi for him. Merry Christmas to both of you and your families. 😊
Thank you! Oh enjoy your grandson! Kids make all the difference around the holidays. We still appreciate that it is a Holy Day, but it’s more fun with kids. We definitely miss that!!
Michelle, good job on completing Renata's afghan and mailing it to her. The colors and squares placement turned out really nice. My vote--do not rip out the other circles afghan. Keep going and finish it, you will enjoy it. If I was purchasing myself a gift, it would ne mohair. I'm in WA state. Wow, Leslie, you brought a lot of projects to show us today. Thank you for sharing your honest opinion about those yarns. Merry Christmas to you both! PS: I haven't felt like putting up a tree either this year.
I’ve had a rough year but I always always look forward to you two and laughing and especially learning about yarn. The only fingering weight yarn I have came from the yearly sale at hobby lobby and I especially love all your minis and looking at the row one yarns you show each podcast. Thanks for a terrific year of podcasts. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Merry Christmas ladies! Always a joy to watch. On my yarny wishlist for Christmas this year is a Christmas project bag and next year is a yarny advent calendar! Never had one before.
Merry Christmas and Happy Year you two and your families. I love seeing all your projects and new yarny goodness. I have never been able to afford to buy myself an advent. I just watch all the podcasters showing off all their advent's and live through them.
Merry Christmas! ❤️🎄 I need to take notes while listening. I always forget what I want to comment. Anyway, my knitting wishlist would be patterns. Designer's spend so much time creating that I don't know why I struggle to buy them. My wish list includes Oslo hat, Musselburgh hat, Sophie scarf and shawl, cumulus tee (Petite Knit is a favorite), etc.
I think the blanket is gorgeous and you should finish it in some sort and start another one with smaller circles and bigger borders so you can have both!😁
Thank you so much for sharing a piece of your lives with us. I feel like I know you both so well. Michelle, I didn’t put up decorations either this year. I agree, it feels like I just took them down. Have a great Christmas and happy New Year.
Merry Christmas and Happiest of New Years….may you be blessed beyond measure for all you do through your podcast. If I had a dream…..I would love a skein of Sherry Iris. Her yarn is deliciously beautiful and the stories attached bring wonderful memories of the characters.
I just found you ladies. You were so enjoyable, so down to earth. Thanks for a very fun time. Oh BTW, please don't tear out the blanket, really stunning.
Leslie, I keep seeing that people are running out of yarn on the Anthology throw. I am not no seem to get an extra row or two. I am guessing it is all in a persons gauge. Michelle, the afghans are beautiful. A new crocheter here and can’t wait to try some fancy stitches.
I actually really like how you look in this episode. 🤷♀️ You mentioned the anthology throw. You could use your barnyard knits yarn to make it and do the color changes where she says and just rotate through them and repeat after you go through each of your colors. I bet it'd be lovely! My wish would be for superwash fingering weight scraps. I use anywhere from a yard up to four yards for my granny squares and less than four grams for my beekeeper's. Leslie mentioned the vest being a great idea for anyone who works in a warehouse, and I thought I'll get one for my husband (6'3", men's 2xl) who works in a small steel mill. 😂 He'll look so cute. Merry Christmas!
Michelle I love that blanket! Maybe just take a break from it for a moment. I have everything I need to be able to knit and make things I want to. As for me being a dyer and still new to it, I’d like one of those dryers for yarn (looks like a little coat cover thing) but I have all I need so if anyone needs something I have so many needles and yarn I could help with a wish or two
Michelle, the blanket, don’t take it apart, it is beautiful. Leslie, I so admire how you pair mohair with just about everything. I have some really nice pink that I guess would look good with a white mohair? Merry Christmas you two! Blessings for a great new year.
Michelle don’t rip out your afghan! I love the big circles. It looks so classy. It was so nice seeing you ladies again. If I could have one thing knitting related, it would be minis. I have a few but not enough to make anything. I would love to do the anthology throw that Leslie is doing. It’s going to be beautiful!
All of your projects are so beautiful. I knit a lot of things but get most of my yarn from thrift shops. I mostly knit hats and mitts for charity. One thing I would like to have is some hand dyed yarn. Thank you for all you do and please keep podcasting. Merry 🎄
If I could get myself a Christmas fiber goodie, I’d get some Barnyard Knits yarn. You talk about it on the podcast a lot and I’ve wanted to try it for quite awhile. I love her colors. I hope you both have a very Merry Christmas and I look forward to the next podcast 🎄 Also, I live near Portland, OR, not too far from you.
Really enjoying Chelsea luxes advent podcast too! Lovely to see life in the US, I'm based in Ireland. On my wish list : would be a wooden ball winder & swift. I keep telling myself I dont knit enough to need one, then I pick projects based on yarn I dont need to wind up from my stash 🤣.
Love that you rallied for this one! I've been so inspired by all of your beautiful crochet blankets I'm finally starting my own Battenberg blanket using an advent I bought in 2019. My dream knitting gift would have to be pom pom magazine subscription. I look at it but never bite the bullet
Michelle, very nice blanket. Leslie, I’m accumulating a bit of Linen Quill. Right now I just finished my second Salty Air Tee and I only used 2 skeins. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your families.
That smells like snow sparkle yarn? Omg that is so beautiful! I have been having to strap a head light on my head to crochet in DK? (Laugh here). It does help. MerryChristmas to both of you. Have a dreamy day!
Michelle, on your blanket the big circles look like dandelion heads - looks so cheerful! Always enjoy watching you two. Another fun episode - thank you! 😊
You are among my favorite podcasters. I was so grateful to find your podcast during the pandemic, and have looked forward to the Knotty Knit Wits ever since. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!!
Thank you again for a wonderful chat time, Merry Christmas to you and your families. Michelle I have to say the mini quilt in the background is so cute! I am finishing up my first sweater the Ranunculus (sic) and can't believe how simple it really is, thank you for directing us to such wonderful patterns. Be safe and have fun .
Isn’t it??? Our friend Laurie made that for me I think as a birthday gift. She also gave me 2 other mini quilts with it ~ a red/black one and my favorite is one with the American flag ~ and I just love this little reindeer!!!
Fun podcasts, I agree decorate as you feel no stress. I did purchase a blue vest for my granddaughter. If I could buy myself something it would a knitting journal.
Michelle, I meant to tell you I also watch Bob and Brad! I don't think they're chiropractors though, but physical therapist. They are good..and funny!!!
I would love to have a chihuahua knitting bag. I miss my chihuahua so much. I had to rehome him when my husband got severely sick and couldn't be home. Really I would love to have my chihuahua back, but that won't happen.
Wishing you both a merry Christmas. Like both of you, if I want something, I usually buy it for myself. For Christmas, I plan to buy myself a larger project bag. I have sock-sized bags and most items including sweaters will fit in those, but occasionally it would be nice to have a larger bag.
Loved watching as always. If I where to buy something for myself it would be assigned pooling yarn. I think the projects turn out so pretty. Wishing you both a happy holiday 😊
Michelle, I think your puff stitch blanket is not too holey at all. It looks perfect! I have crocheted a very lacey stitch blanket and it is warmer than I thought it would be. And your large circle afghan looks wonderful! Don't rip it out please
Michelle, I have the new Forte set also! Those black and white block things are cord ends/stoppers. You use the t-pins to tighten. They are starting to sell shorties sets of these too. Also, the cable rotate!!!
This is just my honest opinion but I seriously love your crochet flower/squares! I love how big your flowers are. I think it makes your blanket stand out compared to others I’ve seen out there. And while theirs are pretty too, I just really like how yours is uniquely yours 🥰
Merry Christmas ladies. We have had the snow and cold up here in Washington as well, overnights dropping down into the twenties. Michelle your afghan is beautiful, try laying it out on your bed. I don't think the circles are too big maybe they seem that way since you're holding them up by your face instead of having it spread out on your bed. I keep trying to get one of those super large knitting bags that hold a whole blanket. I love the knitting queen bee bag I bought from bags by awesome granny, which ironically has my everybody loves me poncho in it. Both of which I fell in love with after seeing yours Michelle.
I love the big circles...for a big self present it would be a spinning wheel that can spin thin yarns. Don't even know if I like to spin yarn, which is why I don't have one.
Yeah and that’s one of those things that you don’t buy if you don’t know you love it ~ but not like you can just go use one for a while to see if you love it.
Great to see you both. Hope all goes well for your Christmas celebrations. Not to much snow. Here in the UK we are currently under a blanket of snow and the weather is extremely cold. My one desire for my knitting future would be a really good wool winder. I have a swift and the wool winder gave up the ghost about 18 months ago so am currently winding by hand. Advice for a great long lasting winder would be appreciated. 🇬🇧
Michelle, your blanket for your daughter came out so pretty!! And Leslie, I love your blue sweater, it's gorgeous! Hope you can get more yarn to finish it! Merry Christmas ladies! If I were going to buy myself a yarny Christmas present, well I maybe don't need any yarn, but I'd love to get some more minis or sparkle yarns. Also I do need to get myself some more knitting needles or tips for my set and some more shorties for socks. Im in Virginia 💖🎄
I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas! There are a few dyers out there whose yarn I would love to try, even though I’m a dyer myself I still like to support other dyers.
The blanket looks great. I have always wanted to go to Rienbeck and get some farm yarn. It just seems like a very long trip to make to stand in line all day.
I always have such a nice time listening/watching you two. In the new year one of my goals is to finally knit socks. I have wanted to for SO long and 2023 is gonna be my year. Some really nice person provided me with all I need to finally conquer them.😉 My dream gift is minis and sock yarn. Like you two, I also love sparkle. I'm definitely a scrappy person, and LOVE making blankets. The more colorful the better. I hope you two have such a nice Christmas! I picture it being beautiful where you two are. I'm in South Florida so it will most likely be sunny, hopefully a nice day, and I would count on it NOT being cold.
I've have some Birdstreet yarn! They have it at a nearby yarn shop in Long Beach California. Well since I still wind my yarn on a toilet paper roll...I would buy myself a swift & ball winder 🤣 Love the red and green outfits!
A toilet paper roll??? You’re very creative!! I love it! Not so much that I want to go that route ~ but I love that you’ve found a way to use what you have!! ♥️♥️♥️
Whew I'm back. I stopped your video and ordered the Upcycle for a Veronika Cardigan. Leslie check out this pattern because this cardigan is more like a jacket wrap. Leslie, that color green looks good on you and that style of blouse is flattering.
If I had a wish I would love to get a swift , a ball winder, or a decent set of interchangeable needles and of course yarn or a project bag. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both.
I love your circles blanket. If you don't love it maybe your family/friends would love it. If I bought a gift for myself it would be a sweaters quantity of yarn. Merry Christmas to you and the families.
Leslie your Softie hat looks like handspun. I have knit two now. One out of store bought wool and one out of my leftover handspun. I like both but handspun is definitely more ‘textured’ stitch. But I made the wool and I know it is unique!
Michelle - your afghan struggle……how hard would it be to disassemble it and intermix 2 half size circles (to equal 1 large circle in size) in with the full size circles. Is that too daunting? For the advent crochet puff stitch afghan, try one size smaller hook. If you are questioning it now, I think you need to bite the bullet and rip back to the start of color 2?
I got half way through this podcast and noticed you two were wearing red and green! Very festive! I wish you both a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Lots of love to you both!
🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️ I'm Christie from Creatively Altered! Can't believe this is the first time I've watched your podcast. 🤩One of my knitters called me when she heard you mention my shop name 🥰. Uneek is my favorite yarn. Gorgeous hand-dyed, self-striping colorways on a super soft extra-fine merino base. 🤤 Urth also makes a Uneek sock yarn! It's a merino/nylon blend, and it comes in two identical pre-wound cakes (so you get 2 perfectly matched socks!) Save the Uneek fingering for a different project; I'm going to send you a Uneek Sock kit!
I don't comment very often, but I just wanted to let you know that I watch every episode you two ladies upload. I feel like I'm knitting with friends whenever I watch your podcast, so thank you. The thing I wish I could have is any hand dyed yarn. I don't have any extra money to buy yarn or wool from anywhere other than Walmart, so I would love to be able to knit a sweater or even a cowl with some hand dyed wool. Ah well, maybe someday. I live in Canada and there are some great yarn dyers here that I follow and would love to support someday, and hopefully, I'll be able to do that. Thanks for the video! Merry Christmas to you both, Michelle and Leslie!
Thanks for commenting!! I wish it wasn’t so expensive to send things to Canada. But we might be able to work something out with a dyer. Will you email me your address? knottyknitwits@gmail.com
