@@mmajunkie4687 Because he could have knocked out the glass jaw Overreem on the 3rd round and wasn't able to capitalize (Overeem got hurt at the last 30sec of the fight)
Dude this fight was kicki boxing clinic by Reem. He may have not Roy. out but it wasn't even close. Even when Roy was throwing on him Reem would then create distance and start tagging him
@@sunofpeter2totally agree, overeem kicked the ever loving shit out of Roy. Unreal that he can eat all of those shots that would put the average man into an early grave. Just mind boggling to me.
You can't help but wonder what career Roy would have had if he'd taken his nutrition more seriously. As it is he's had a good career but can't help but feel he could have achieved more.
@@hermanosfernandez1537 True but it likely aged him prematurely as well so likely also shortened his career at the higher level. The main issue Roy had at the. Higher weights was the huge guys he struggled to take down because they were naturally so big and strong. As a result he over relied on his overhand right and became predictable, at a lower weight his grappling would've been so much more effective imo.
@@hermanosfernandez1537 Maybe a little more damage, I wouldn't say a lot. The only thing his stomach fat might protect is his liver, otherwise even his ribs are still just as vulnerable as his thighs and head. Dude is just built different and can take a beating.... if he had the cardio to back that up like OP said man he would be crazy
@@grayalun yea at 205 he could’ve given everyone but jon a lot of problems and him and Jon would’ve been a great fight. Him and stipe are examples of why I wish a 225 weight class existed
Nah, his skill set was average at best. Phenomenal chin and power but his striking was limited to telegraphed swings. I'd love to have seen him cut to 185 and really put the time in.
@@H.K.5 His speed wasn't the issue, he had decent speed. His arsenal was pretty much restricted to overhand rights. Very rarely would he throw jabs, efficient kicks, body shots, knees or elbows.
@@H.K.5 he loads up on his strikes, without using feints or jabs to set up, he rarely lands decent shots on the elite calibur strikers. You see someone like Cro Cop in his prime. Even though everyone knew his high kicks were his killer shot, they often never saw it coming because he'd mix up between straight punches, body and leg kicks. Big Country basically has his big right or left
Nelson better striker… Brock better wrestler…. Nelson better ju-jitsu…. Brock good at bullrushing. Both have hard heads and can take punishment. Nelson has better cardio. Given these factors, I would say Nelson has the advantage
if overeem had a good chin he could’ve had the potential to be the greatest heavyweight of all time. Dude is an absolute monster with terrifying power and deadly accuracy. Only thing tho if he gets hit clean he goes to sleep. You could even say he has one of the worst chins of all time
When you train you build your accuracy your stamina your power... So the good practitioner might think I can get this guy down...No you can't if Overeem didn't you can't...So in a street fight.. Does not matter how experienced and skilled you are you don't know if the other guy is a real caveman! Nelson is a total caveman with crazy abilities!
Man, I have mad respect towards Roy Nelson, but Overeem knew he only had to watch out for that right overhand. A shame, Roy had plenty of opportunities for a counter strike with Alistair's low kicks
FromAuraWithLove maybe my memory goes back a bit further than yours. Before MMA ( well certainly UFC) he was definitely one of the best kick boxer, K1 and ( limited)Muay Thai fighters going. A " household name " in Europe. His kicks and punching combos in this fight give you a hint of what he was like aged 20 to 30. Don't particularly like the roid muncher myself but along with Mark Hunt and Wanderlie Silva the best known internationally, pre UFC.
FromAuraWithLove well, I mean he WAS one of the best considering the fact he was competing and winning in K1. Just to be there means you’re one of the best kickboxers in the world.
Who? Nelson? Nope. He wasn't doing enough. He didn't out-strike Overeem at all. Surviving until the end of a fight isn't enough...you've to out-do the opposition. That didn't happen.
@@shelfcloud487 No you haven’t lmao. You clearly never saw this fight. You’re a clown. “I’ve been watching since the 90s” But never seen Roy Nelson vs Alistair Overeem and definitely didn’t watch it live. Sad excuse. Real OGs like me can sniff out that wannabes like you. You’re new to MMA and you’re portraying you’ve watched since it’s been founded. Nice edited comment by the way.
It just seems like this. Watch more carefully and imagine yourself on Nelsons place. And answer to yourself how much time does it take for Obereem to knock you out. Then compare this to Nelsom )))
@@H.K.5 juice doesn't make technique better, though. Overeem is highly technical. I agree with Jeremy - Overeem is a much more accomplished kickboxer than Cro Cop. That doesn't mean Cro Cop is bad, though.
Big Country was a great KO artist against average heavyweights, but anytime he fought a technical striker, he lost. Dos Santos, Werdum, Miocic, and Overeem all proved it.
He lost against Hunt too, I believe. Hunt isn't all that technical and fought more like Nelson. Both are big power hitters, but have nothing else to offer. Wait -- Nelson is a master on the ground. He probably should've tried to take Overeem to the mat in this match.
