I have been asked a lot lately about Royal Enfield 650 twin fuel gauge issues, and whether or not my Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 has had any. Well spoiler alert, I have not yet had any Royal Enfield gauge issues, or any failures of the gauges on my Continental GT. Let me know in the comment section if you have experienced this yourself!

I too have this issue... every time I fill up the tank when the last dot blinks I expect it to take at least 10 - 12 ltrs of petrol to fill up but the tank fills up with just 7 ltrs

I have a two month old 650 Interceptor and my fuel gage has only showed full once (one week old). Since then, even when I brim the tank it’s always one bar down from full.

My GT650 gauge starts blinking last bar even it has plenty of fuel; 6 L. Using trip meter is my way to manage.

I got my GT last week and when the last bar was flashing I filled up. It took 1.8 Gal fuel with 98.5 miles on the trip. I'm on the second tank full and we'll see where it goes from there.

Owned my INT650 for 2 months (2k miles) and I have the fuel gauge issue. Sometimes it shows 1 bar down at 95 miles on the trip, sometimes it shows 2 bars left at 95 miles on the trip. The last two times I fueled up, my gauge showed only 2 bars left (approx 1/4 tank) and I fueled up even though the trip only said about 100 miles. I put about 1.5 gals into the 3.5 gal tank each time…so it was over half full but showing only 1/4 tank left. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m just running calcs on fuel ups with the trip to get approx mpg and start going purely on that. I assume I’ll be riding 75-100 miles on E with the gauge as it is now.

I have around 8000 km on the clock on my interceptor. The fuel gauge is not always correct - can stay on full for 100 km and run fast downwards to two pins left and stay there for another 100 km. But when it starts to blink - it fits okay with the manual saying about 4 liters left. So, I do the same as you - and use the trip meter. I have heard that it is normal to have 4-6 liters in the reserve tank, so I interpret that blinking is going on reserve and you have to tank within 100 km’s

Never really had an issue with the fuel gauge yet after owning an INT650 more than a year, only noticed the difference when I switch the vehicle from center to side stand or vice versa which I think is normal.

Hi Alex, looking at getting a 650 GT. How do you find the slipper clutch, Is there any engine braking at all? Do you find the lack of braking frustrating or do you like it? Cheers.
@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
Despite having a slipper clutch I still feel a decent amount of engine braking and it has not phased me at all! I come from a long line of bikes without it...and honestly it is so seemless on this I would not even have really noticed. I don't think it detracts at all!
@erich.4305
@erich.4305 3 года назад
thanks. I too if I had a bike would be in the habit of resetting trip meter when fueling up. Also a competitor for this bike the Kawasaki W800 in my understanding does not even come with a fuel gauge. So it seems one could easily get by without one.
@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
A lot of motorcycles still don't ironically...there are tons of FI bikes that just come with a "fuel light" that comes on when it hits reserve.
@MatthewGallagher93

Mine seems just a little slow to refresh and sometimes it seems like the last bar is flashing when there is still quite a bit of fuel left. I come from older bikes because I'm a poor, so this is the first experience I even have with a fuel gauge except for my car.

I think I have only owned maybe 4 bikes with a gauge haha...I'm so used to just paying attention to the miles.

I've had a 2020 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 for about a month and I have noticed some quirky things about the fuel gauge. First off. After tank fill up it takes the fuel gauge about 2 minutes ,after you've started the engine , for the gauge to show a full tank and the other day I was riding down a curvey road and noticed that the gauge went from showing an quarter tank of gas to showing almost full. Also I've parked the bike for the while and later returned to find that the gauge which had read about empty when parked, was reading almost full when I restarted it. But the last situation corrected itself. The curvey road discrepancy didn't correct itself until I topped off the gas tank. Because of all this,like you, I'm now relying on the trip odo for refueling information.
@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
Sounds like yours does have some interesting gauge demons haha...thanks for sharing it! I like to set my trip meter as well, so far so good on mine, fingers crossed.
@700horses
@700horses 2 года назад
Yes... I've had an issue with the fuel gauge. Even if the tank is full (or almost full), sometimes the gauge will blank like its on Reserve. After shutting down and restarting, the gauge will go back to accuracy.

Mine stays all the way up and then shoots down to empty. I may just ignore it all-together and use the trip meter method. It is unpredictable to the point of being counter productive to put any stock into the reading it gives.

@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
Interesting, mine usually does stay above the half mark longer, once it gets below half it drops faster.

the fuel gauge sucks on the gt650 lol. it'll start blinking when basically half the tank is empty.
@charliedavis3084

Hi Alex, my 2020 Interceptor 650 fuel gauge sometimes (but not always) shows an incorrect fuel level at startup, it returns to normal after a few minutes / few miles. I usually notice this when I have around 1/4 tank; the gauge will show around 3/4 tank for a short while then correct itself. This does not happen every time, I have seen it maybe 2-3 times in 1,000 miles. The other item I'll mention is that if I fuel up when the fuel gauge shows I'm on reserve (one blinking bar) I can only get around 2.3 - 2.5 gallons in. Not a big deal, but I it seems like the reserve comes on a bit early.
@frederickwoods5943
@frederickwoods5943 3 года назад
Same here as Charles. The increments are each .4 gallon, so when six increments have faded away, that is 2.4 gallons. That leaves over one gallon of fuel. I routinely run 180+ miles and put in 2.4 - 2.5 gallons to be filled up. Also if you do a lot of stopping and re-starting it gives bogus readings. I am consistently at 72mpg over my first 4,000 miles. 2020 INT 650

Similar crap happens with the fuel gauge on my Harley. It gets wonky when it has less than 1/2 a tank left. One time when I first got it and I was riding with a little over 1/4 tank while sitting at a light the needle just starts dropping. I am looking a the ground to see if gas is puddling under my bike in a panic like an idiot. It also sometimes does not register all the gas in my tank at start up. It pays to pay attention to your fuel levels and keep it in mind or manually check it. For your own mental health. But I started riding in the late 80s so I rarely owned a bike with a gauge and used to just mentally note my mileage at the fill up. I am too lazy to bother with set a trip odometer...though at my age is getting hard to remember all the time.
@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
I've noticed as well that it does seem to show "reserve" sometimes when I know for a fact it isn't there yet haha...all hail that trip odo.

@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
Only way i know of to fight rust on a spot like that is to clean the rust off with whatever you like to use for that (I use WD40, a solvent, or Honda polish) and then every couple of days just make sure to clean it again with a good polish and protective coating, like the Honda polish I mentioned. With my outside bikes stuff like Honda polish has always helped me fight rust in those annoying places.

I just order myself a GT 650 and having never owned a motorcycle before I have one question for now. What's the best way to prep the bike for outdoor storage? I was going to spray all the metal on the bike, outside the brakes, with WD40 Specialist Corrosion Inhibitor. I'm talking everything but the brakes to help keep the rust away. Is this a good idea or is there something else I should do? Thank you!
@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
Hi Crabjoe! For outdoor storage I would get yourself a good motorcycle cover to start with. And instead of WD40 I would just wipe the bike down with Honda polish or a similar product instead. It will clean the harmful junk off and leave a very thin coating of protecting stuff on the bike that will help fight off rust and corrosion. I'll make a video on this soon as well!

@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 3 года назад
probably give you a video anyway since I try to do one every day and you show up to watch all the time hahaha. I think they are hit and miss, I have known people that had great luck with them and have had friends buy Kymco and get a lemon...so I think it's a toss up. Seems you either get a good one or a horrible one, the consistency doesn't seem to be there in the quality control.

Absolutely, I will add it to the list! Not sure how soon it will be, but I will make it. I can only really do it for cable style throttles though, a throttle by wire setup is a little different.

I own a 650 Twin in India, but a Kawasaki.. It does have fuel gauge issues ( highly inaccurate) I owned a n Enfield 350 earlier whose gauge was inaccurate I own an electric car.. It also has “Fuel Gauge” issues ( so much so that I got stranded a couple of days ago when the battery level indicator was still showing 10%, but car wouldn’t move and it was to be towed ) Question I’d like to ask is “ Is there a bike / car that doesn’t have any Fuel gauge issues ? “ If yours isn’t having issues, check again 😉

No issues with fuel gauge. Like most not completely accurate. seems to register full for ages then rapidly drops off. Settles at 2 bars for a bit then drops to flashing one bar although still plenty in the tank. I have noticed my gauges fog a little at the bottom, like a crescent of condensation. Bit of sunshine and warmth, it soon clears. Have had a recall for corrosion of the Bybre callipers but am sure with proper maintenance the originals will be fine. I've had none so far but have only done 600 ish miles.
