And we have the most amazing relationship, and that's how ill be with my daughter and my son!

I grew up like thAt and it took until my current marriage to stop being a secretive sneaky POS bedside my thoughts were, “I can do whatever tf I want and I don’t have to tell you or admit it because it’s none of your business and eff you. I check up on my kid, for his safety (especially internet usage because his a classmate unalived himself due to internet harassment at only 12 years old) but never shame or degrade him. He knows he is "audited" and agreed to before he got his own laptop, so its not us going behind his back..but for example, we found some inappropriate pictures on his computer. Hubby asked me how we should handle it.. told him we don't. He is a 15 year old boy and we will not shame or embarrass him and they were not extremely explicit, they were typical teenage boy stuff, and there is no lesson there. Note for parents: kids are smart.. apparently if you Google breast cancer reconstruction after pictures.. it gets around internet filters. He got us, and almost give him bonus points for creativity.

@@whitneyr.846 no I totally agree on checking if you're worried for their safety ect, especially when there's silly games that get sent around ect soo I totally understand that! And i agree with no shaming him. I have a daughter and currently pregnant with a baby boy and I've said to my partner, when the time comes they watch "adult content" and we accidently see it or what ever how would he react and he said he wouldn't, its all.oarty of growing up learning and exploring! Check up on them if you're worried for their safety 100%, but until them leave them be! They've got to learn, explore ect or they'll never grow!

If you don’t allow your children to grow, explore, learn and mess up then they will never thrive as they get older. The real world isn’t structured like a stict controlling household. You learn from experiences. Children grow in love. You cripple a child when you control everything.

I really believe any kid who isn’t allowed to make mistakes growing up will just make them later down the line and cause themselves more harm not being a well rounded adult and making mistakes they should have already learnt from. The fact Ruby’s conservative family don’t agree with her is really scary, she’s on a power trip, she just wants control of her kids & RU-vid made her think he voice was really important.

Indeed! It teaches codependency. Had 2 narcissist parents divorced when I was a baby. I’m 51 and still trying to figure out how to navigate simply because I wasn’t allowed as a child till 20 left home …so I unknowingly ended up with controlling spouses thinking it familiar/normal. I was 45 before I realized why I couldn’t thrive beyond survival mode… it’s been a tough journey.

As someone who has struggled her entire life with mental illness & finding the right medication, I am ANGRY to see that in 2022, there are STILL parents out there depriving their child from treatment. I’m 20 years old and was just diagnosed with borderline personality disorder & have been given the correct medication. I’m so incredibly blessed to have such a supportive boyfriend, sister, mom, & stepdad that have loved me throughout the roller coaster. My fundamentalist grandma on the other hand isn’t supportive & has told me that I need to “pray away” my mental illness & “talk to a pastor”. She doesn’t understand despite all the explaining & educating. While I’m a Christian myself, I feel that fundamental Christianity can be very dangerous & has led my grandma (& others) to believe a ton of false narratives. Parents, STOP depriving your children from proper healthcare. That healthcare could very well save their life.

Hi, I'm a christian and a few months ago I got out of a 2 week stay at a psych ward and started on lexapro. I have many bpd and hpd symptoms and my psychiatrist is keeping in eye on it. They are even making an hbo documentary about the psych ward I was in because its different than most in how its well run and created for college students. Any way I was just wondering if you have any advice. I been suck with my ssri not working, I feel like idk how to balance being mentally ill and christian, and idk how to tell my treatment team that this isnt working. I kind of feel like a lost cause

@@cerinacapone7945 SSRI’s werent working for me either. As bad as this sounds, I got to the point where I genuinely didn’t know how much longer I could live like this. As for advice, continue to advocate for yourself. Push and push and push. It’s taken me YEARS to get the proper diagnosis & start on mood stabilizers. Keep fighting for yourself even when you’re beyond exhausted. (Because I get it. It’s so incredibly exhausting) You deserve proper medication & therapy. As soon as I got the diagnosis & got proper help, I had never felt so “light”. I finally had HOPE again. I still struggle with episodes & outbursts as I’ve just been recently diagnosed but my biggest advice is to keep advocating for yourself. See as many professionals as you need until you finally find one who listens. I’ve gone through many therapists, doctors, & specialists before I was finally taken serious. As for my relationship with Christ, I’ve always had one, but I feel that in this season it’s never been stronger. I prayed with tears flowing down my cheeks that he’d help me…& I was led to the doctor who took me serious. There were times I hated Him. I was angry & confused & wanted him to take Home. I just wasn’t okay & my brain kept telling me lies about myself & others. But each & every time, he reminded me that my life here isn’t over yet…& neither is yours. He hears us. He loves us. And he created medicine & smart people who have the ability to diagnosis & treat. As discouraging as it is, again, PLEASE don’t give up the fight. Keep advocating for yourself. I will say some prayers. And…if no one told you today, you are loved and you are wanted. ❤️

I'm so happy you spoke up about the diary thing. When I was 14, my mom was constantly invading my privacy by snooping through my room and looking on the family computer history to snoop through my Facebook messages to my friends. That's when she found out I had lost my virginity to my boyfriend at the time and she lost her mind. We're not a religious family, but she completely disowned me for a month and treated me almost like a criminal. I am now 25 and still harbor resentment towards her for invading my privacy. I understand she wanted me to be safe, especially at that age, but that's not the way to go about it. This is VERY damaging to a child's trust.

@@Nono-ul9jy Stop fear mongering and trying to make people believe mental illness is something they need to stop their medication to do “self reflection” for. While I agree that therapy and introspection is very important, you shouldn’t encourage people to cold turkey their meds and begin to doubt their treatment options. Medicine is a miracle of science. Big pharma is real, yes. But to encourage mentally ill people to stop their medicine and do woo woo shit to “heal themselves” is ignorant and dangerous. Sometimes a mental illness is just that, an illness due to a biological factor that is out of our control. Those people are valid too.

I kept a journal when I was 14, and I have to say that most of the entries were made during a time of anxiety, anger, loneliness, all those teenage dramas, the thoughts written would often not actually reflect my real thoughts, they only reflected where my mind was in the moment. I would sometimes read what I wrote a week after and laugh at my own immaturity. I would have been devastated if my mom ever read my journal. The reason your kids won’t trust you is because you’ve broken their trust. You’ve flipped out over minor things that breaks their trust. Kids are wired to trust their parents. It’s literally one of the hugest things babies have to do. It’s key to survival. If your kids don’t trust you it’s 100% because you freaked out about little things starting out very young. Spilling juice, breaking a toy, eating that cookie. Talk to your kids like humans and understand they are living. They don’t know how to live life and they need guidance. Shame and anger blocks them from coming to you.

When I was 15 my parents picked me up from school and told me we were going out to eat. They lied. Instead, I was taken to some counselor, where I saw every single one of my journals piled up next to her and she was looking through them. My parents had looked through them. I had no friends and writing was the only safe space I had. When I reacted with anger, (no threats or anything), the counselor used that against me and said I needed to be hospitalized. Yes, I had suicidal thoughts written down in my journals. But I wouldve ended up talking to my parents about it and a therapist if they wished, if only they would've come to me to talk instead of destroy my privacy. I asked if I could first go home and say goodbye to my cats and get my stuff, the counselor said no. I said I'd run away then. She then smugly said, yup she needs to be hospitalized. I was then put into a mental hospital with other kids my age for seven days. I almost failed 9th grade because of this. I wasn't even getting my homework like I was supposed to. They put me on Prozac, which gave me bad stomach pain and diarrhea. But when I got home, that was the worst feeling of all. I went back to my room... Everything looked ransacked. My lock to my beautiful makeup case was broken.... Etc.... It was the emptiest feeling. I wanted to write in my journal about it but how could I? If I wasn't seriously considering ending my life before all that, I definitely was at that point. Also, I am autistic, but that wasn't understood back then. I only got my diagnosis at 28 years old, after being traumatized by incompetent psychiatrists, every drug in the book, and further hospital stays... Ever since my diagnosis it's been uphill and I started to heal. I'm doing much better now and have forgiven my parents. They know what they did was wrong. But to this day I can't write in a journal no matter how hard I try. It used to be my therapy. I loved writing. Also to this day, I can't open myself up to anyone about anything. I feel like a locked book.

I totally agree. I was just thinking about how my 13 year old daughter tells me EVERYTHING. She even comes to me when she’s worried about her friends because they can’t talk to their own parents! But we have a very mutual and unshakable trust that was cultivated from the beginning. I’m so much more comfortable knowing that she’ll come to me... even if she knows it’s something “bad.” This whole concept of always scrutinizing your child looking for lies makes me so upset.

My parents were like ruby and the “connexions” clan. They moved me away from friends. They read my diary. They listened in on phone calls. They picked and chose who I could hang out with, tv shows and movies I could watch, and activities I could participate in. I moved out at 19 to get away. I had no trust in my parents. I was raped and had gotten pregnant from that. I ended up in hospital miscarrying and I still wouldn’t call my parents when I needed them. Everything I have has been from really hard work and LEARNING FROM MY OWN MISTAKES RUBY! I feel nothing but sympathy and hurt for their kids. I left the church (not Mormon) and found myself. Ruby’s style of parenting is PUSHING HER CHILDREN AWAY FROM THEM. From watching her videos I can see that those poor children will exit stage left as fast as possible. I truly hope they the Griffiths family takes them in and gets them therapy to over come all they’ve been through. Wow, that's awful to have something so traumatic happen to you and still be afraid of your parents. Every child should be able to go to their parents when they are in trouble or have been hurt. You should have been able go to the people who are your foundation. I'm sorry this happened and I hope you have a nice community of people you can confide in now. It sounds like you are a well adjusted person. I HATE what abrahamic religious thinking does. These extreme and abusive parents end of pushing their children away and not everybody finds good people to be around or figures out how their parents made unhealthy mistakes. Many kids just internalize their pain into shame and guilt and end up in unhealthy situations or worse.

why is no one talking about how that one mom took away her Childs cell phone as a punishment for sexting a 19 year old when she was 13?? the daughter is currently 14 and the mom said the incident happened a year ago so im assuming she was 13 at the time. but a 19 year old adult having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 13 year old child is very concerning and that girl is a victim!! she should not have been punished for that, at least in my opinion. maybe im misinterpreting and the mom meant she took away the cell phone to protect her daughter but it sounded like she intended it to be a punishment. and then violating her privacy like this and accusing her of being manipulative?? this poor child is going to be so traumatized.

I've only managed to do it 4 or 5 times since then, and promptly destroyed the pages to ease my anxiety. That thing about the journal really upset me. First off, that's what journals are for. Private thoughts. Working through sh*t. Even if the kid is writing about sex or something, so what? It's. Her. Thoughts. Inside her head or on paper, they exist. Parents digging into that IS absolutely a huge violation. I am just imagining if that had happened to me. If my parents knew I was questioning my sexuality, for instance, before I knew how to explain what I was feeling. Not only does that give me massive anxiety (just as a hypothetical!), but also, it would just make me feel more confused, and incredibly unsafe. Now, I never did write those feelings down, because I was so terrified of someone reading them. Even now, out and proud, there are still aspects of that process, of my feelings, and of my personal life that I do not talk about. Because I am not ready and may never be. 14 or 29, that is my right. My mom was trusting and not super controlling, and we have a great relationship. My sperm donor was verbally abusive, controlling, and lived to raise his voice. I have not spoken to him in almost two years and never intend to see him again. Trust matters! P.S. There are multiple genetic predispositions for mental health conditions, not even to mention the situational circumstances. Past trauma, no matter how "small". They are not doctors. As you said when disclosing your personal panic attack history, it is truly terrifying. It does indeed feel like you are having a heart attack/dying! Having depression and anxiety is like your brain fighting you from every single angle possible. Having PTSD is like constantly looking over your shoulder, constantly fighting to stay "present", always being on edge. ADHD is just the fight for staying focused, organized, attentive, and your brain is going a million + miles a minute but in all different directions. Medications help so many peoples quality of life!

God bless you. I couldn't even make comment correctly express how upset I am. So bless you for doing a video spreading awareness of all these abusive parents.

I'm in that group. 🤣 Not under this name... I don't want them to kick me out so I use my real name on there.

My mother read my diary twice when I was a teenager and confronted me with what she found both times. I still have issues regarding it to this day. Parents should never violate a child like that.

Thousand percent. If you were genuinely concerned for safety (as in self harm, suicide, mental disorders and have tried councelling, therapy, creating healthy loving spaces for your child to trust you with thay info...) as a last resport, maybe skim read it, look for things specific to abuse, suicide, safety etc, then put it back. Bring it up in a healthy conversation focused on helping them. Never read it just coz you want the dirt on your teen or what ammo to confront and argue with them!! Does ruby just thrive on drama and confrontation!? Stupid question ofcorse she does.
