Kirito in Aincrad: "You ever notice this game has a real arson problem?" Kirito in Alfheim: "You ever notice this game has a real cannibalism problem?"
If you guys ever feel bad about the stuff you're making... Just remember, a lot of people (myself included), have vague memories of the actual SAO plot, as SAO Abridged has overwritten it. I don't remember the actual show's true plot, character intentions, and so on. SAO Abridged has completely overwritten my memories of what the show was, and I don't regret that at all.
I don't know why, I no longer view this as an abridged, I seriously tried watching the anime, and though 'wow they sound weird'. The have become the voices of their respective characters and I love it as they sound way better. Every time I think of SAO scenes it is played with their voices inside of my head.
@@Tan12 SAO is one of those shows that at this point if you aren't knee deep it ain't worth rewatching lol Im too deep to stop now so onto alicization and Moon Cradle and Unital Ring and I have too know that I will see the abridge in 2050 lmao
When you get down to it, if you've watched LITERALLY ANY OTHER ANIME (SAO Abridged included), SAO is just... reaaaaally really bland. Like, there are parts of it that are done relatively well (the first 14 episodes of season 1), and there are parts of it that are done badly (the entire second half of season 1), but it all comes down to basically just being a meaningless haze after a while because Kirito is a Mary Sue and the show doesn't really have the ambition to actually go anywhere meaningful. That's why SWE is so impressive-you can tell from the outset that they intended to try to ACTUALLY IMPROVE on the story and concepts of SAO, and they succeeded beyond anyone's expectations.
The chat at the start just made me realise that kirito might still be terrified of dying in the game even in alfheim where he can respawn because he thinks he might die in real life. Just think of the scene in the world tree where he gets speared like 20 times in the chest by magic swords "HOW AM I STILL ALIVE AFTER THIS?".
He's still wearing NerveGear, which is what phsycally kills the player after death. I don't think Sugou will re-activate the death glitch, but that is a possibility Kirito would want to avoid, lest Sugou /kill him with it activated.
@@cyberbyte2168 It's not a glitch though. Kayaba specifically designed the live version of SAO to remove the safety limiters. Which he also designed. He invented and developed pretty much the whole thing. I seriously doubt the government would let a second game get away with not being thoroughly checked for suspicious code like that even if the intended hardware isn't really capable of the exact same method anymore.
Obviously the real reason why all the spirgins that had carried the name of Kirito are extinct is because of how their desire to be like their "idol" means having to RP that they are playing "hardcore iron man", so if they die in the game, they have to start over with a new account and/or account name, so in reality it was jut like 1000 guys who used up all 1 million different kirito names since they kept dying to the greifers, and refuse to give up the Ideal they set that if a kriito account dies, they have to let it stay dead. or something like that (EDIT: So technically, it wouldn't be ironman, it would just be hardcore, since Ironman is that you have to make everything yourself, and hardcore is the if you die it's over.)
Predictions: the wish/item to rule all races is going to be the charisma hat and Klein is going to use it to force everybody to call him by his real name, especially krito * Klein pulls out hat* “for you see …”
Kirito: dont worry guys, I'm his best friend so only I can call him Balls- Klein: *Slaps Kirito* you will call me Klein! Say it! Klein! Klein! Kirito: K-klein!
@@CaptainCFalcon well they did show us Kandy Kane Kapital this episode and krito did win it by defeating Santa so…. I’m really hoping it’s foreshadowing. Plus imagine Klein doing the “for you see “ monologue as revenge when he pulls out the hat
I gotta say, doing the yearly rewatch of the entire series to re-get the context for the next, it’s kind of insane how well the jokes age. Both DBZA and Hellsing Abridged have like, really bad starts or they haven’t aged well, but for SAOA, I’m still laughing from the first episode. Maybe I’m just a sucker for the asshole
Yeah, my only issue my ocd with th change in Asuna's VA. When it first happened, I preferred the original, but now I like the one we've had, but rewatching just makes it feel weird.
Imo the only ep of Hellsing Abridged that didn’t age that well was the first one, but even then there are still way more good jokes than dated ones. I can’t speak for DBZA though as I haven’t seen it.
@@kugelblitzkrieg DBZA struggles for the first few episodes too. Even the team themselves said they don't really like a lot of the early jokes before Vegeta and Nappa appear
To me, SAOA was already doing so much right even before it hit it's stride a few episodes into Season One. And the last two episodes of Season One, and the entirety of Season Two thus far have all been the absolute top of their game, imo.
I think I can accurately describe the difference between season1 and season2 Kirito like this. In Season 1, Kirito was on a power trip. For him, the world was his oyster, he had power, and there was nothing to lose except his life, but he had so much power that it wasn't even a threat. In Season 2... He learned he isn't invincible. He tasted defeat. And more than that, he has something to lose that's actually more important to him than his life. He knows he could be an asshole, and in his head he's probably saying it all, but he knows he needs these people and that his own mouth is his biggest enemy. 'I can't turn it off, please fix me' was supposed to be a joke from season 1, but from what we've seen... She kinda did. He cares about people more. He can turn it off, especially if it's for her. And when you strip away the sarcasm and retorts, he often devolves into being a bit desperate, but earnest.
I definitely agree with this!! Especially compared to Suguha/Leafa, he does seem kinder than his early/mid Aincrad arc personality. Not to mention the fact in how he simply acts with Recon, considering the fact he probably wouldn’t even have given a shit at first. Abridged Kirito has the best development
i'm still in awe of how unforgivably, disgustingly, perfectly awful Suguha is as a person. It takes a special kind of genius to make me love wanting to tear someone's head off
@@richardshiflett5181 i... think.. THINK the op was misrecalling... the guy who is Oberon in game (because i can't recall his actual name but recall it being like suugua or something similar)
Making that whole war thing just be a lover's spat and all the major are just previous friends trying to force closure was a *brilliant* touch. More than laugh, I marveled at that whole sequence. It wasn't some stupid power play because there were rumors of a race switch event that probably wasn't ever going to happen... it was just because one former friend thought another confrontation was needed.
I know, I’m honestly awed at just how clever it is, I never would have thought of that. They really made these nothing characters interesting and compelling
It also makes the whole thing pretty believable. In very small/niche/insular rp communities (like presumably the Alfheim Online rp community in this), personal disputes between powerful/founding players can often end up affecting the whole plot of the world, to varying degrees.
Kirito doesn't really have a harem this time around tho. Liz is already scared straight, Silica is afraid of him, and Suguha is into Nagata xD. Man's free
@@brianstabile165 now that I think of it, Sinon might become a rival of Asuna. Not for Kirito's D, but just a rivalry stemmed from that misunderstanding.
God I love Sword Art Online Abridged so much, I can tell how much love and devotion you have put into this series. Screw the RU-vid demons that try to drag you down. We will keep lifting you up. Keep it coming!
2:13:29 - And this is what separates Izzy and the rest of SWE from the SAO creators both real and abridged: they put in EFFORT!!!! And this is why even if an episode only drops once a year, we will all be here to watch and appreciate the work you do.
Squeekers was so great and tragic. Even Kirito felt bad at his death. And Leafa said all Squeekers's love was faked. A cruel lie. They said they loved him but in reality hated him! Which is SOMETHING coming from Leafa given that she emotionally toys with Nutter Butter and sends him on suicide missions. And we of course realize that Leafa is lying as all the Salamanders loved Squeekrs. And his unborn children! A great combo of 'racism', stupidity, not paying attention, and projection on Leafa's part. Good think Squeekers can respawn.
@@josephperez2004 yeah since it was built off of SAO’s code that means pet death is perma-death and the only way to bring them back is to collect like 50 flowers bring them to a town to get a key to go into a dungeon to fight and fight about 8 bosses to revive them. And it all has to be done in 3 days
It's so amazing to watch how much work not only goes into their top-notch writing, but also into photoshop-altering the source material with new animation. A lot of the stuff Izzy made looks so natural, it's hard to believe it's not a direct screen grab even after seeing him do it himself. This isn't some "haha we made the MC say penis" abridged series. This is art.
You know what I realized when the characters are killed their bodies disappear the fact that reki's body is still there means he was still alive with his face in the water as they shot him 3 more times and threw mayo on him probably from a paralyzing bolt
ngl, the Christmas area being on fire is both such a clean edit and so good a way to keep the plot moving that I legitimately thought it was just part of the show. Izzy's editing continues to astound.
1:37 I don't know if I'd call it a really important event, but I did leave halfway into a heart surgery. Don't worry though, I had the janitor cover my shift.
@@CH-bd6jg Yeah he's still got that ego boost from Kayaba. I still don't know if he managed to put that heart back in but he seemed pretty confident while he was trying to figure out which organ was the heart. On the plus side, might be seeing the world's first man to have three Kidneys and no heart.
Seeing the breakdown made me realize how many of the shots in that episode were such clean edits, I just assumed that it was in the base show and I misremembered. Suuuuper big props to Izzy for the top tier editing and everyone for the wonderful job!
This was the first stream I was able to catch and I thought you guys were amazing already! Now I'm pretty sure your demigods!!! I love you and I hope we can save this beautiful SAOA family ❤😄
I found an odd duality when it comes to abridged. It, most of the time, turns out better than the og, but you cant fully appreciate without the prior knowledge of the main story. It makes it hard to get my buds into it but i feel bad that they'll never understand how good this stuff is
I’m waiting for someone to make a reasonably good version of One piece. I used to love it, but its become unwatchable Now they’ve started making fight scenes that take 8 episodes, repeat parts of the fight from 2 episodes ago, Take 6 minutes to start the episode. Completely lost that the heart of the show is friends on an adventure helping each other through thick and thin.
I just watched the scene where Kirito meets Death Gun for the first time and thought "it would be funny if SAOA made him Don Fluffles, and Kirito's PTSD episode was him realizing just how boned he was."
(Still early in the VOD so perhaps you already confirmed) guessing the heavy scene in Ep 17 is when in SAO original Suguha figured out Kirito was her brother and confronted him IRL which I've long thought was going to be an interesting scene with this very different dynamic.
If you want an book reference idea… Thardsvergûndnzmal. Also known as an Erôthknurl, its from the Inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini. Is basically a ball of clay that through a lot of time and steps ends up resembling a smooth gemstone. It literally translates to “Earthstone” as its from the dwarven language. One of my person favorite obscure literary tongue twisters… also you might as well call it a polished turd.
Watched the whole VOD, absolutely loved the experience and wish I had caught the stream… The amount of editing you two do is insane, I HIGHLY respect that. Also bloopies? Theres bloopies?! Karf is looking tempting for that alone… but yeah seriously that was an awesome breakdown, and I 100% support more cannibalism jokes. Keep up the funny shit, see ya in a year (or for both of our sanity’s sake, a few months) :)
The bloopies are almost as good as the regular episode (they even lip sycn them). Finally joined KARF because I couldn’t stand waiting for the next episode and those made it worth it alone.
I can’t really covey in a RU-vid comment how much I appreciate your guys hard work and how much you guys put into these episodes. Seriously thank you! This series has been so enjoyable for so many years and can’t tell you how many friend I’ve introduced this series too and it’s always a big hit
Thank you guys for another amazing episode and post-stream! I love the cast and crew of this series so much and I’m so happy the wait was worth it! I always love listening to the post-stream discussions and hearing the cast/crew talk about the process and other tidbits behind the scene! We are starting off 2022 on a high note and I can’t wait for the next episode! 🥰😎❤️
Take as much time as you need! Can’t rush greatness .. I probably rewatched the series like 10 times .. certain parts are always popping up in head .. “ we must save my family “ 🤣🤣🤣
Started watching this series after Season One ended (but before Season Two began). You guys deliver in every single episode and this latest one was personally my favorite one yet. Thank you for such dedication to your excellent work.
I just wanna say I truely appreciate all the work and hope you all keep at this to eventually do season 2 :D these always fill me with such nostalgia and happiness when they release. I can't convey how much I appreciate it but I can't wait to see the next episodes and you guys are all amazing
Man, this is fascin8ing! In addition to being interesting from a technical standpoint, this breakdown also gives enlightening insight into just *how* impressive the editing is.
I just discovered Saoa , I binged it and prolly will binge it again soon let me just tell you thank you for taking this great premice and turning it into a real freaking great anime. You didn't just write a big joke you fixed everything and made it more interesting. I fucking love it, I hope u keep up the good work !
I very much enjoy watching these guys go through the process of how they write/edit each episode. It's so damn entertaining just to hear the thought process and I even get to pick up some more editing tips/tricks as a bonus. Hopefully they keep doing these post-mortems for future episodes as well. Until next year (or sooner).
Love the videos you guys. Honestly would be happy just watching you guys rewatch your creation. Post-Mortems are both fun, funny, interesting, and and great way to make me worry and appreciate Izzy. Also just imagine Kirito had job and the same mannerisms as inside Aincrade for the people on the phone then the swap to co-workers. However he’d never take the job willingly.
Keep up the fantastic work dudes! It doesn’t matter how long each episode takes, we will wait. After Team 4 Star had to stop on Dragon Ball, y’all are a blessing.
I know that the official answer as to why there’s so many cannibalism jokes is “I have no idea”, but there’s one specific and unplanned parallel that I find hilarious. In Explanation Point’s video about SAO he describes it’s waste of potential by saying “Hunger games online with sword lasers is the best idea to come out of Japan since ritualistically cannibalizing it’s enemies as an intimidation tactic during World War II.” So you guys, in both making a version of SAO that is sincerely compelling television and regularly featuring ritualistic cannibalism, have effectively utilized the best ideas to come out of Japan.
This is the best *possible* explanation I have heard so far. I sincerely they keep rolling with the cannibalism jokes simply so I can indulge the idea that they are, indeed, borrowing Japan's best ideas.
Not bad, not bad at all. Speaking of fanservice-y stuff, I wonder how they'll handle the rape scene in the finale, swe already proved that while they know how to make great comedy they don't shy away from tragedy and violence, even more than the supposedly serious SAO did so it's anyone's guess. I just hope it does make it into the actual cut or it's going to be one forced alternative finale, but I'm also afraid of youtube censorship
@@tap5263 dude calm down. There is far far worse out there in WESTERN media. Don't loose your shit over something that while terrible is only realitivly uncommon.
@@skewercorn9894 I'm not saying it makes it ok. Simply that it doesn't warrant that kind of suprised and overly sensitive reaction. I mean seriusly it's approaching levels of "Wait the bad guys do bad things in X"
Considering my only exposure to a "nut butter" phrasing was in reference to how your balls get sweaty while being grinded between your thighs throughout the day... Is there some other way it's used?
Darlings, I just re-saw the ep15 post mortem and just thought of Izzy doing all the lip-flap work and wanted to say, you don't ACTUALLY have to show the face of the talking character the whole time, nobody would be upset or even think out of place if we switched over to the listening character and see their faces change during the line. Both a timesaver and also increases fluidity of drama!!
Just adding my two cents to the pile, but I LOVE that you guys do this. The show is amazing, and I love it to pieces and back, but seeing HOW you do some of this stuff is so great. Hell, I didn't even notice at LEAST a third of the jokes you talked about until it was pointed out how the editing worked on that. (Most notably the *crunch* in episode 15's sword-to-the-stomach sound effect) Thanks for doing what you guys do, and thanks for showing me even more to appreciate.
I binged the series in a day. Fucking astounding. Yalls version is a major improvement. Do not ever feel bad about your content or the time it takes to make it, take your time. It's epic.
Watching all the work and effort and fun y'all put into this masterpiece is just (painful to watch all the complicated integrations, and complicated software) amazing and all the laughs and inside jokes is an amazing experience. And I love getting asap shows, but if you need more time to make it just, A-1 steak sauce, then you take all the time you need. Love y'all
Hi *late to the party here* but I just wanted to say that no matter how much time passes between episodes I still look forward to a new one coming out and every few months I binge watch from episode 1 thru 16 O.O I don't know how many other people do this and maybe I'm just a weirdo! I appreciate the effort that goes into each scene and the jokes after all this time still hold up! I've gone back to watch some dbz abridged episodes (I also love the series from team 4 star) and their jokes honestly haven't aged that well :/ still, I like it but yall nailed it with SAO! I love you guys! You've helped me out of a serious depression several times through the years and thank you so much for the dedication and content!
The Hunger Games quote is from the song "Rue's Lullaby" which is sung over her death. The section is the second verse. The first verse appears in the movie but I believe the second doesn't
How are they gonna make the tentacle scene worse? I have an idea how they could, make it Asuna's kink. Same energy as Kuradeel stabbing Kirito imo. If I'm proven right I would be hella freaked out.
The editing is so incredibly good that I can definitely say I didn't notice what got altered 95% of the time in the whole of SAOA - and most of the remaining 5% is jokes or some eye movements that I am sure weren't in the original because of tone & what I do know about the source material (I haven't seen anything SAO after season 1 though)
