I love how they didn’t show Scottie the part where Isaiah was COMPLIMENTING the Bulls and the great things they did. Yes it was a ploy to stir up drama but come on. The man showed the utmost respect for the Bulls and Scottie is left feeling like Isaiah was just talking more trash.

Finally, someone got it right. Scottie and Stephen A. explained it perfectly. They got beat down physically and emotionally by the Pistons 3 years straight. In the last dance Jordan even says how hard he hit the gym and bulked up because of how physical the Pistons were with him. Beating the best or getting over that hump is what propels great players into elite status. Having a mountain to climb figuratively of course is motivating. It made the Bulls and Jordan specifically change how he trained. How he worked out in the offseason. How he practiced. Helped him achieve greatness. Even he didn't think he was capable of. I watched it live and that's how i will always see it.

Im from detroit...I watched every single piston game back to tripucka and all i can say is that we literally TAUGHT the chicago bulls how to play. They started using our heart that we had against us, They matched our energy after seeing how we didnt care about the rules and we created a monster...Jordan actually had to lift weights and get bigger to beat us.. The Pistons have been historically known as the dynasty destroyers. 1980s Celtics, 1980s Lakers, and years later the 2004 Lakers with the all star team Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Peyton. The Pistons defense was intense in the 80s and intense in the mid 2000s.

They explained it quite well in the Last Dance - in short they had to improve so much and they beat the pistons in 91 because they were so good and yes the pistons had declined a little (isiah had a long hand injury if i recall correctly). In long : In 1984, Jordan was a rookie in a mediocre team. Then thanks to Jerry Reinsdorf (the new owner) and Jerry Krause (the new GM), they eventually managed to build a great cast : John Paxson, then a year later Grant and Pippen, then Cartwright - all the way the team got stronger but was defeated 3 times in a row (in 7 games in 1989-1990 in the PO by the Pistons. Meanwhile, for the season 1989-1990 Phil Jackson took over as new coach, and the triangle offense was implemented. So thanks to the organization and the players, they set the whole pieces, and the team became great in 1990-1991 (i compared a little the PO against the pistons in 90 and 91 : they had all improved and most importantly, did not rely solely on MJ to score). After that, thank you Detroit : they had learnt the hard way what it takes to win the last game of the season.

I'm a die hard Piston fan and watched this in real time. I hated the Bulls MJ and Scotty but as a man, Scotty gets more respect from for his answer over what Isiah said. That is how a man is supposed to act. I also like the way Stephen Smith put as to getting through the Pistons helped make Chicago what they became. Practically unbeatable. I hated them but I am a man now and give respect when it is deserved.

The Pistons held the Bulls down for about two or three good years cause Jordan had no help, then he got Scottie but Scottie wasn’t quite there yet. The Bulls finally matured and beat them. The Pistons were not “old”. Most of them weren’t even in their mid 30s. The Bulls just passed them up. Period.

As a bulls fan, I was never more elated or satisfied as when the bulls finally overcame and swept the Pistons. I was pretty confident we would handle the past their prime Lakers. The Blazers the next year were a different story - scary talent but we had Mike and Pip.

People really need to stop saying the Pistons were "old" when the Bulls beat them. Thomas was 29 years old. Dumars was 27. Rodman was also 29. Laimbeer was 31. Those were their best players. Their core was all in their prime when the Bulls simply passed them up, because they were better.

Max forgets the Pistons had been to War against Magic's Lakers, and Larry's Celtics, and all the other tough teams for years and were injured and exhausted . The bulls were young and hungry and healthy . It was a transition . And I saw it happen from the late 80's to the early 90's . People need to RESPECT Detroit and Isaiah Thomas cuz he's really the only guy to beat Bird,Magic and Jordan. Also the toughest team in the NBA in decades!

The Bulls finally were able to overcome the Pistons once they realized they needed to start lifting weights and add muscle to compete with their physical style of play. Jordan had never touched weights at all but started lifting with a trainer in 1989 and once he put on 15-20 extra pounds of muscle the Pistons could no longer rough him up like they used to. Without question the Bulls were a far superior team once they reached their peak. They swept them 4-0 and sent the Pistons packing.

It's hard for me to recognize the Piston's greatness due to their tactics. For me, it goes straight from the Lakers / Celtics to the Bulls. They won, but winning does not equal greatness.

I’m from the Chicago area I remember watching all the battles the Bulls had and failed with the Pistons. Once they overcame the bullies and became the bullies it was over for the league. I love the Bulls and Zeke is still public enemy #1 to all Chicago Bull fans! Zeke retired at 32. Dennis was still in his prime when he won chips with the bulls 5 yrs later. Joe Dumars retired in 99. Lambier was the only won who was old.
