Giorgi has one setting -- aggressive. Serena took a while but she started hitting harder and deeper and very accurate. Giorgi's power game was overwhelmed. Interesting that Serena can do this at this time.

Giorgi is dangerous for defensive players early on in the season when their defensive game is not ready. But for Serena she wasn't. Did you even watch the match? Serena won because her serve was on fire. The rallies were about even, and Giorgi's serve was only average, but it was all the free points off of serves that made it easy for Williams.
@@robertorolfo strictly speaking, no I just watched the highlights in this video. But it's clear that Williams was tending short on her returns and rally balls and Giorgi pounced all over those. Also Williams' body language initially was beleaguered and plodding like she was out of shape and unenthusiastic. Around 4/3 Williams starting showing some competitive fire and started landing her balls well beyond the service box with pace and accuracy and that is what overwhelmed Giorgi. And yes Williams' serve was highly effective, even more so in the second set (they didn't show much of her service games from the first set).

Audrey Williams yes she just can’t beat herself anymore in finals, she’s got everything to win any title this year she wants , including the big 4 GS, but she just has to somehow hold her nerve. I think if she does great here, even possibly winning this smaller tier tournament warm up event, it could be just what the doctor ordered man. I was actually quite nervous for this match for Serena as I know Camila is such a dangerous opponent, she either comes out and hits you off the court or comes out and makes error after error, unfortunately for Giorgi it was the latter but she was forced into errors by Serena who played amazingly after 4 months out of the game. Shea looking very strong and fit. That's danger signs for the rest of the WTA.

Saurabh Chakrabarty I have to agree I’m concerned about her movement due to that fact - she doesn’t look like as agile, her movement is a tad slower and that’s likely to be exposed by an Osaka or otherwise
Serena is looking very good to get back to the top this year. She is showing she wants to if she is playing in smaller tournaments. Very impressive how she changed speeds and used angles
You must be confused. Steffi Graf retired years ago, in a career that was only half as long as Serena but won only 1 fewer slams in half the time. Steffi is clearly the GOAT of women's tennis.

Giorgi's footwork is superb. Coaches should take note of her anticipation and hitting the ball early. Unfortunately for her though... Serena is nearly back to her winning form. -GO SERENA!!

It is about the quality of shots and not quantity. Camila served well but not all of her shots were of good quality and was hardly able to match Serena's power. Serena didn't serve well but made sure her shots were good, deep, powerful and with angles... she also moved well

Just based on this video, Serena is seemingly playing more towards the baseline and though her foot work didn't look bad, her movements are the best I've seen form Serena. This is her first match of 2020 so I'm very sure she will get the hang of it soon. Otherwise, a very good start to the season, especially against Giorgi.
It does look a competitive match. Pity for Giorgi only if not Serena in the first round. Lowered much in the ranking, Giorgi needed a big win which was thwarted by a big name. Anyway, she looks OK. Her stats were not bad, but not good enough against the top seed player. Just inside 100, she'd halve it surely this season. Serena in doubles with Wozniacki looked sharper. It's probably because of Giorgi, an unlikely power hitter. In the long run, however, Serena's skill & experience come into play. Neatly finishes her job in 2. Passed a test. Next, Coco on collision course in the quarters. Good luck for both!
First off Serena has won a lot of matches by so-called looking out of shape. She has won grand slams by so-called looking out of shape. My only concern for her is that she is getting older and I would like to see her a little bit lighter. But I think at this point she's so used to carrying the extra weight until she may not feel the same on court without it. With that being said many years ago I remember people in all of Serena's extra weights and she ended up winning so I just wish her the best and that she doesn't sustain any injuries and I reluctantly agree with someone that said it may be good to bring someone new on to the team. And who's to say that hasn't already happened we just don't necessarily see them. Serena you got this!
