Serena rises to the occasion when she has to but if her mind isn’t in it she can play herself to defeat. Just stay focused, eye on the ball and AO is yours to win or lose.

Seriously, how long can we expect Serena to play? The announcers talk as if her game should be as it was 9 years ago. Her best? What is her best at 39? I fear for her at each match. I have loved her since she first came on the scene even though she would disappoint me at times by just not caring enough, but I would love to see her in another major final and have control of her nerves and win. I believe it has been her nerves since she lost to the Italian at the US Open (which she should have won). She has survived many years and players and I hope she can rise 1 more time to get that final major.
I agree, her physique makes what she is doing highly improbable. Hell, she doesn't even like athletics. Her will to continue on & compete at this Championship level is amazing. Her ❤️ puts her up there with not only the greats in her sport, but ALL sports; truly the🤴👑
McHale came out swinging hard. I watched this match on another YT channel and they showed McHale equally... I'm team Serena but her opponent was good too.
Really happy to see this from Serena. It wasn't her best, but I did think she moved really well and she showed patience and some creativity in finding ways to break down McHales exceptional defence. As for Christina- wow, this is some of the best tennis I have seen from her! The return in particular was awesome.
Serena’s footwork is 🔥🔥. She usually loves that open stance backhand but I noticed she’s preparing earlier and stepping into her backhands more. Lezzzzgoo

Don’t get me wrong a champion is always a champion . Bianca won that match because Serena was legit nervous and had to much errors. She practically gave that slam to Bianca
An interesting encounter in which the match could go complicated, if not upset. McHale is not an easy opponent. Serena, at the very beginning of the season, not fully charged, but enough so + her experience, she knows how to deal with the situation. An entertaining match!
Christina played beautifully, but as usual, Queen Serena/the GOAT finds a way to turn things around for her good. Go, Serena, go! Lord, please let her stay healthy and uninjured. Amen.
McHale won the first set yet i wouldn’t have thought because you only showed Serena’s winners. I love Serena, her power and longevity, but let’s support other player as well when they obviously have done well in a set.
Christina always gives her problems I believe its that, she then figures it out but that girl is something to her. She can easily lose to her than others i believe.
When pushed to the corner and trailing , something gives and either she does her hair in a bun or something and then starts playing freely , taking balls early, stealing time , throwing angles, moving opponents and digging. This is how she wins huge matches. Last AO Final against Henin watch end of of second set and beginning of third. I think this year this is what will happen. She seem to have forgotten her basic instinct to fight last year. She will with lots of match practice .

She's put on too much weight- that's why she's breathing heavily! She needs to get back slimmer, and be lighter on her feet! If she gets a slow start, it might work against players of this caliber, but not against the likes of Kerber, or Mugurutha.

Maybe,Christina McHale will have a chance if they meet in GS final. I don’t know but it seems to me that Serena is over hitting sometimes,especially these days. The thing who cost her 4 finals plus an opponent who have nothing to lose. It seems to me she’s bigger and eavier than last year.
Serena had to fight hard to win this game because she is very predictable. Just watch again, McHale goes exactly where Serena will place her next ball. Serena is in too much of a rush hence her predictability. Serena has to calm down and watch her opponents before placing her shots. And she wastes energy smashing those easy balls! Conserve energy by placing those balls gently since opponents are usually way behind the base line to come get the ball. She needs to be smart at this stage for at least 5 more trophies. U go gurl!!!

Notice how Serena hardly has to move this is basically hitting practice. People really just hit the ball back to her...Osaka and Andreescu makes her move more.
I feel like this is AO 2007 Serena. Idk if it’s the frame or if she changed her hitting stance but she looks so much to her own self from 13 years ago. Like rusty but not too much, kinda out of shape, still outhitting people off the court with angles and good shot making.
This match is VERY easy to summarize. If you run right to left and left to right and hit the ball right back to Serena and let her have time to get set... you will lose.
You can't say that when she has gotten to 4 slam finals in the past 2 years. She's in tennis shape to beat anyone. It's the mental block she needs to work on when she gets to said finals.
I was hoping Williams would lose. Those grunts coming from her is soo Annoying. She unnecessarily smashes the ball standing one feet from the net and there are times that she misses -is so embarrassing.
