Always funny when Sheldon says he wasn't aware of something, and then immediately uses it.

One of the few GENUINELY funny episodes. The last four seasons are GARBAGE. Chuck Lorre is an IDIOT.

@eaglesfan226 he told lies most often when he was really forced or had to, and that was way later on the show. this episode is number 10 in season 1, so the writers only started to establish the characters, and at this point of the show, Sheldon didn't lie at all.

@rocketmom60 No, it wasn't, it was an exaggeration, not a lie, and it's perfectly understandable why. The Big Bang Theory came out first, and it was a sitcom - a very specific genre, it's all about jokes and comedy, and exaggeration is like the basic thing in a comedy sitcom. Young Sheldon aired years after the Big Bang, and it was a simple family drama show but not a comedy or the specific genre of comedy that a sitcom is. Therefore, on Young Sheldon, everything is more toned down and 'normal' because it's not a sitcom, the jokes and laughs are not needed every minute, and this is why certain situations feel quite different, but these are still situations that Sheldon described. Yes, it was exaggerated, and certainly, Sheldon's father is not as extreme and didn't make mistakes as severe as Sheldon said he did, but again - that's the different formulas of the show in conflict. Young Sheldon was always planned as a warm, nice family show for entire families to watch, so they couldn't really portray George as this awful, hardcore alcoholic and cheater, so they wrote a tamed, 'nice' version of him on Young Sheldon. And because Young Sheldon aired years after the Big Bang, they couldn't simply change how Sheldon described his father on Big Bang either, that was a problem. The creators assumed the viewers are smart enough to understand the difference between a sitcom and a family drama show, and wouldn't hold it against them or these characters. This is why when I watch Young Sheldon, I don't treat it as exactly the same universe as Big Bang Theory, I can separate the two in the sense, that I get that the comedy part of the Big Bang had to come from smth, and the exaggeration was just the way to do it.

People say Sheldon is insensitive and lacks empathy just because he doesn't fully understand social conventions, but I find the fact that he is brutally honest and speaks without filter and manipulation refreshing and way better than what most people, especially nowadays do: so lie, and spread propaganda about everything. Sheldon did lie in the end, but only because Leonard lied to Penny first and Sheldon was worried Leonard's lie wouldn't be enough. But Sheldon's first instinct here, to just tell Penny the truth maybe would have been a better solution. Sure, it would hurt her feelings at first, but there is a way to tell her she can't sing in a delicate, considerate way, and for me, it is certainly better than lying about it because the truth would show that the guys are honest and trustworthy, and it would also snap Penny out of delusion about her 'singing talent'.

Leonard didn’t want to hurt Penny’s feelings but Penny hurt his and all the guys feelings many times and Sheldon was almost always the only one to point it out and even called her out on it at times. Leonard rarely did so too and mostly enabled her out of fear that if he didn’t, he’d never get laid by her.

Why does Sheldon not understand that sometimes you have to say or do something to protect a friend’s ego. But then again Sheldon’s ego is so big he doesn’t acknowledge anyone else has feelings.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve noticed a lot of season 1 clips popping up here on the channel. When before there was so much of season 12. Just saying is all.

The best clip from the show. Also one of the moments where I fully agree with Sheldon. Unless you have a clear selfish agenda, lying and sugarcoating is not benefiting anyone whatosever. It's just stupid.

Re George in Young Sheldon - Hey TBBT channel why don't you upload AN EDITED version of the scene with Penny & Sheldon eliminating or rewriting the scene that was RETCONNED. hahahaha lol it's totally a retcon this is exactly the solution i had in mind except i couldn't think of how it was a retcon. COME ON how is this not a retcon? the writers should've owned up and said 'pretend the scene with penny never happened and now we're doing a new thing' Sheldon even had that catholic confession thing w/ Tam over something not as big as adultery. And you think Sheldon would keep quiet over adultery??!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA the writers should rewrite that scene with sheldon & penny. What they could've done is say 'hey we changed our minds. Actually it makes more sense Sheldon's dad isn't a neglectful drunk. Sheldon's dad's support is a big part of why Sheldon is so successful. We'll rewrite TBBT scenes later. Bear with us please.' Better than a RETCON.

He's absolutely fine with lying if he wants to get his own way or as a 'prank', such as pretending Leonard had an overdue film. Its being asked to keep secrets he doesn't like.

Practically everything he has said about his childhood is a lie, based on the prequel series Young Sheldon.

Yep, if the creators had managed to synch the prequel and tbbt, so it made on coherent storyline, it would have been much better. Maybe asking too much of the writers I expect.
