Short drive with the Comma Two running Openpilot 0.8.7

Trying a new camera setup to record drives with Openpilot (OP). This video is a little skewed. I'll adjust the camera for subsequent videos.
This video has a mix of driving challenges that outline why OP is still a level 2 system.
EDIT: This is in my 2018 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced. I currently have my DSU disconnected to allow Openpilot to control the gas and brake. It is not currently recommended by comma to run in this configuration as it disables Toyota's Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). I believe it is planned for Openpilot to implement AEB. It does give a "Brake Now!" alert if it thinks there is a chance of a collision.

You know what it needs to take on those turns? The ability to coast - as a human driver would. I'm waiting on my comma 2 to arrive (again), and will be looking into sunnyhaiban's fork which has these little tweaks. I think it includes Shane's as well. I didn't delve to deep yet. Nice vid!

Yes, I've been going back and forth with Erich on getting one. We haven't been able to sync up yet when he and I are ready at the same time.

Hello! Appreciate the upload, I am new to Comma Ai, about half a year. you said in this video and the comma 3 video that the comma controls how far you are from the car in front of you. I have a question, is the following distant not controlled by the Prius? on my crv I can set the following distant and braking and acceleration is done by the car's sensor not the comma ai. I am asking because the crv's default braking and gas is very aggressive and janky, I am wondering if the comma ai's longitudinal control can control my car's brake and gas instead of the car since it is not that great at doing that.

In my 2018 Prius Prime, I had to disconnect the car's Drive Support Unit (DSU) to enable Openpilot and the Comma to control gas and brake. If I left my DSU connected, then the car would be controlling gas and brake.

@@YetNotDead Where is the DSU located at on a Prius Prime? I'm buying a 2017 Prime next week and can't wait to install this. Also, is the comma 3 worth buying compared to the comma 2 (personal opinion)?

@@jeffbarnum I will start with the statement that I am NOT recommending disconnecting the DSU. Doing so disables the car's Automatic Emergency Braking feature. Comma also does not recommend disconnecting it. With that said, should you choose to proceed, the DSU is located in the area behind/above the glovebox. You open the glovebox then squeeze in the sides into allow you to pivot it down fully. The DSU is a silver box that sits in the area above the glovebox. The connector is about 1.5" wide. You must also enable "Community Features" in Openpilot. With the DSU disconnected, the car will show errors on the dash anytime the Comma is not booted up. If you get them, you need to power off the car then power it back up to clear the errors. The best solution is to get the SDSU from Erich. Check the for-sale channel in the Comma Discord.

With it connected, the car uses Toyota's Automatic Cruise Control where you can change following distance with the button on the steering wheel.
