Can you get all of the nutrients that you need from food alone, or should you be taking nutritional supplements?
If your diet provides enough, does this apply to people who aren't in perfect health or have chronic disease?
Does living in the modern world influence our nutrient requirement?

I am a big fan Dr Overton. He helped me understand things my doctors, including endocrinologist, never told me and still today won't discuss with me. When I try to open a discussion, my doctor just said "I won't argue", and that's the end of the talk. Thank you Dr Overton. I completely agree about taking additional nutrients. Almost all of the produce that we get in grocery stores are devoid of nutrients. The vast majority of commercial grown food is given the right amount of nitrogen phosphorus and potassium just to get the plant to grow quickly and produce high yields . Unfortunately this can be no further from the truth As you speak so eloquently about this. This is why I supplement with high doses of b vitamins. Many people are very deficient in b vitamins. I now take high doses of thiamine because of your awareness of the importance of this vitamin as well. I also think there are a few amino acids that are extremely important. And in high doses can be very beneficial. One such amino acid is taurine. I also think the other amino acid is glycine. The Western diet eats way too much red meat. There's endless research and data to backup all of this. I think some subjects about specific amino acids would be really cool. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge Elliott. It really does make a difference

To give a exact answer to this is very hard and would be way longer then a youtube comment. However, some simple rules are to avoid supermarket cheap stuff, just go with some who are more specialized in supps and just get brands that you think are good, maybe avoid the absolute cheapest versions of things, those extra 5$ is often worth it. however, in most cases, even 'bad' ones, as long as they are not something else, are better then nothing.

For some reason I don't tolerate nutritional yeast so I need other forms of B vitamins and probably was thiamine deficient past the point of remedying it via gut as my gut wasn't absorbing much. One of my favourite things about Thiamine is I can breathe through my nose again which is a massive life increase not just for stress, for meditation, for exercise, for self soothing. Probably low on b6 and B2 though I eat 15 eggs a day and 100g liver and 300-500g grass fed organic beef a day so might get enough if im absorbing it now cos of thiamine. Though I feel oxalates may actually play a role I used to eat tubs of almond butter when I did vegan keto like chronic diarreah and colitis I think was pooing blood but was like motor oil. The things you do for dogma ey. Im Stuck between liposomal glutathione or trying NAC again I think NAC did me dirty last time cos of thiamine deficiency then. I'm still listening to this, but I wanted to comment so far. I've always been curious to know your thoughts on iodine supplementation. the iodine proponents make this very argument, that modern biochemical stressors are ever increasing, while iodine has been depeleted from food, so our need for this nutrient is substantially increased. But the mainstream medical establishment pushes that it in fact harms the body's energy system. Also, the section on oxidant stresses, we actually have a model for how dramatically oxidants can damage human bodies. If you look at the early AIDS epidemic, most people don't know this, but AIDS is actually characterized by significant imbalances in cellular redox towards oxidation and away from reduction. A biophysicist noticed this in the 80s when she was researching the subject and posited that AIDS wasn't about a novel retroviral infection, but about heavy toxic burden that had overwhelmed peoples' antioxidant system. This has been verified over the years and is easy to discover with simple google searches on the subject. In fact none other that Luc Montagnier, who won a nobel prize for his discovery of HIV, has published extensively on the subject also putting forward that these negative oxidant stressors were significant cofactors in AIDS.

Start with thiamine and magnesium. They're co-factors, and deficiency in one is usually linked to deficiency in the other. Do that for a few weeks, and see if and how your symptoms change. Add in another B-vitamin like B12, and see how your body does. Then B9, wait again. Then B6, and evaluate. Where the main causes of mortality = bloody death via trauma or death by infection. Those are the main reasons life expectancy is balanced out from what I understand

If they had such great nutrients balance in old times , shouldn’t they have been more resilient in handling infections? Just curious..

Some supplements have been linked to various cancers. Iron overload is extremely dangerous and even ascorbic acid has its dark side. Perhaps the safest thing to do is to eat a *wide range* of the foods we enjoy. Even in moderation, supplementing one vitamin/mineral can cause a deficiency in another. When it comes to low levels of a particular vitamin/mineral in someone with a full diet (a wide variety of the foods the person enjoys) it *could* just mean that *the body isn't storing what it doesn't need;* an example: fair-skinned people don't need much vitamin D, so taking vitamin D supplements would then possibly lead to ill health with various complications. We should tread with caution when it comes to oils and supplements: even Cod Liver oil can send ferritin levels through the roof.

What is the dark side of ascorbic acid? Oxalates?

I *wish* CLO improved my ferritin numbers, but alas, my anemia was not aided by it.

@@katerss If you want to supplement vitamin C then you shouldnt just take ascorbic acid alone, the vitamin C has a complex of different things and ascorbic acid is just one of it. Oversupplementing ascorbic acid or imbalance complex of vitamin C can leads to depletion of copper and some other things that are essential. I took all these from Dr. Berg's video and heres the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DnvnKnu7YBI.html

@@Johnnyquid20 Be aware of changes: If you develop side effects, stop taking it. There are a number of food high in B3, but it is difficult to know what the right thing to do is. Tread with caution. Perhaps don't stay on supplements for long periods of time.

I hate the argument of our ancestors. Our ancestors average age was 40, so we want to be like our ancestors? Great video by the way.

Our ancestors average life time once they reached adulthood was probably near the ones of today's US Americans. It's just that death during birth or childhood was much higher and maybe the death by saber tooth tiger was also a bit higher.
