One session of this video’s suggestions has given me excellent pain relief. At different times about 8-10 years ago I injured both shoulders, should have had rehab but didn’t take the time. Now I’m paying for it at a time where I’m retired and spending more time outdoors camping, bushcrafting, and managing my 75 acre forest. I have had a shoulder issue for 8 years. Tendonitis and pain in my shoulder blade just sitting in a chair so for 8 years I avoided leaning into sofa backs to avoid pain. Then over the last year, two sudden jolt type dog leash pulling events caused the shoulder to freeze up for a week or more each time. After the second, more painful episode, I tried your stretching exercises and my shoulder is sooooo much better now. 60 seconds of front to back pendulum, front side to side pendulum, circular in both directions all with a 1KG weight and the behind the back stick holding stretch has worked wonders. Thank you. I do these every day now.

Dr. Jo thank you for your videos. In the flexion exercise, you said 90 degrees. My question is: 90 degrees even if there is pain? Or I should stop before I experience pain? the other question is, how long does it take to recover? I have been in therapy for several months and I started to work with weights and I had pain so I went back just to exercises for strengthening.

I’ve saved this video and hope your exercises help. I’ve had shoulder impingement for 7 years, and I’m in SO much pain every day. It’s been a run around from doctors who say there’s nothing wrong, or that my scans come back clean. I can probably move it maybe 20° off my side, other than that I have the worst pain imaginable. I’m honestly so sick of this pain 😢😢.
@celicharvel

I’ll be seeing an orthopedic doctor in about 2 weeks. I sure hope they dont give me the run around over my shoulder issue like they have you. It clearly sounds like there is something wrong with your shoulder, hope its good now.
@AquariusStarr

@@celicharvel I really hope they don’t give you the run around either. Nope, it’s been 8 years this month and it’s worse than ever. Now my right shoulder and right side of my back muscles are being affected from doing all the work. I’ve lost the curve in my neck and have had so many episodes of occipital neuralgia.

I had to go to a&e hospital yesterday. Woke up and could not move my arm, pain in my shoulder and bicep is extremeley sore. My shoulder is that sensitive a finger running across it hurts. Got xray and examination, got told it was tendinitis, to go back for steroid injection. But its my right arm/shoulder and i am right handed so i am off work and in a LOT of pain, even doing the pendulum is sore. But after it, it feels a lot better. Thank you for this video

That loosening exercise at the beginning is great. Thanks a lot! For the other exercises, do they need to be more difficult based on my strength level? I can still do dips, front lever, and pull ups without too much irritation. Also, with a tendonitis, should I focus on static or dynamic movements when training to keep irritation down to a minimum?
@AskDoctorJo
@AskDoctorJo 4 года назад
You're welcome! Not really, they can be a stronger band, but therapeutic exercises are more about retraining the muscles, not necessarily bulking them up. The bigger strengthening would come after you heal and there are no longer imbalances in the shoulder (like returning to gym activities). Static is more towards the beginning, and then dynamic once you are starting to feel better, so it really depends on how far along you are in your recovery.

Dr. Jo I hope you get my message? There is a stretch that you do in this video where you put your elbows by your side and try to pinch your two shoulder blades together. And that when my left shoulder, or deltoid, really hurts. It's a pain like nerve pain, it's a burning type pain. It's almost like a thicker needle is sticking in my side deltoid at times, it gets that bad when I do that stretch especially. The pain started about 2-3 days ago. Can you shed some light on that type injury and exercises that I should do please?

Hi Jo, Great content as per usual. I've performed the wall stretches you reference in this video and have given myself a dead arm/shoulder. Is the normal or should it be something I need to worry about? For reference, this is the first time I've done these stretches and never had this issue before.

@liamgaffey113
@liamgaffey113 6 лет назад
Thanks for responding. It has started to dissipate after an hour. Funny thing is there is no pain. I definitely have an impingement on the shoulder in question which my osteopath thinks is down to bicep tendinitis from overuse (weight lifting five times p/w). Whilst I was performing the stretch I felt the 'good pain' you have previously referred too and after my shoulders have a lot more range than before. Could it be down to the shoulder not having been put in this stretched position before?

I live in India, have been suffering the right shoulder pain for the past few weeks. Physiotherapy provides only temp relief, the Ortho has prescribed some medication which I am taking, and shoulder exercise. I find this set of exercises useful, please advise how to buy the printed booklet since my Indian debits cards would not be accepted, and I don't use credit cards. Thank you.

Hello Doctor Jo, I apologize in advance for writing such a long comment, but I'm in dire need of some advice. I've been having problems with my shoulders for quite a while. I'm a swimmer and about 2 and a half years ago I injured my right shoulder. It was a minor rotator cuff injury that healed in 4 months with the right treatment. Soon after that, my left shoulder started hurting and I immediately went to see my doctor again. She put me on a couple of different treatments (electrotherapy and kinesio taping), but I still couldn't get back to exercising. It turned out to be tendinitis (Dolor extremitatis M796, Morbi synoviae et tendinis alii M67). I was told that I should take a 6-month break from swimming and physical activities that might make my injury worse. I went to see a different physical therapist and she was shocked because I wasn't given any rehab exercises like the ones she later showed me and the ones you showed in the video. She told me I can go back to the pool in a month. After the break I had a check up. My shoulder was still in a bad condition. My doctor decided to put me on treatment again. I finished it a month ago. Now, I only feel pain when I put a lot of pressure on it (while swimming, doing push-ups or even during a certain motion). What do you suggest me to do? Looking forward to your answer😊

Are you still doing the stretches and exercises your physical therapist gave you? That would really be the best option. Unfortunately, I don't know what else to suggest since I can't evaluate you. If you can, you might want to go back to see your physical therapist for a follow up.

Great video, Dr. Jo! So a basic question: I've been starting to do your tendonitis exercises in this video - if certain of the exercises hurt - clear pain in a tendon area of the shoulder - should I continue to do that exercise? How much pain should I experience with a particular exercise? Is the pain an indication that the stretch is GOOD to do, or NOT good to do? Thanks!
@AskDoctorJo
@AskDoctorJo 5 лет назад
Thanks! If the pain stops as soon as you stop the exercise, it should be fine. However, if that pain stays after you stop, then you shouldn't do it.

My shoulder tendonitis comes and goes periodically. I never had any serious injury initiating the shoulder inflammation. I think that the pain has something to do with my diet, like eating sugar and gluten. Are these exercises supposed to be strengthening the inflamed shoulder tendon? And usually doing exercises that hurt my shoulder only make the pain worse.

Hey... So i had been diagnosed with tendinosis (right shoulder). I used to gym alot. So its been 2 months now. I am a badminton player. Can i start playing badminton( i am right hand dominant). I don't feel the pain now. I am undergoing regular physiotherapy for my shoulder. So will it worsen the situation or its okay to continue gym and badminton?

Hi dear Doctor, I am suffering day and night from a tendinitis in my right shoulder and I do not know what I should do to stop the constant pain. According to my doctor, I must not use my right arm for a long time, but now my whole arm and wrist are painful as well. I really feel lost because even the medical treatment does not work. What can I do? Thank you in anticipation for reading my post.
@AskDoctorJo
@AskDoctorJo 6 лет назад
Not using your arm at all is a bad idea. That usually makes it worse. Did you have an injury? Did you have any imaging done, like x-rays, MRI? That seems like a lot of pain for tendonitis.

AskDoctorJo I wrote you a post previously to inform you that I had a scan just with a conclusion: tendinopathy. But there are no further details that could help me know what I have.

omphile direro Thank you for your comment, but you must admit that a lack of sleep does not help you in your daily activities even the simplest ones. In my case, it is over a period of one month that I wake up at night until dawn or after.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, that could be a number of things, so I really don't know since I can't evaluate you. General stretches might help, but if you can, going to see a physical therapist in person for treatment would be best.

That one I am using is Theraband. It's probably about 4 ft, but you don't really need them to be that long. If it's too hard with the resistance, you probably need a lighter one. Good luck.
