I am in the market for some alpinestars leather race pants. Now that ice found you I am sure you will be seeing an order soon. I have the alpinestars gp plus r v2 leather jacket in the flouro red and black so would want something to match. Lemme know what you have.

Hi Brian awesome review you are my number 1 place to see reviews for gear I do have one question how they fit sizing wise compared to the mag 1? I have fairly short feet but very wide I tried the mag 1 and had to choose between a very snug fit on the border to discomfort or a bit on the larger size but no discomfort. Thx for the help in advance.

These will be the same fit. Sidi is not always the best option for riders with wide feet. - Van

Hi Brian I just bought a pair of Alpinestars SMX 6 V2 and not happy with the calf adjustment, I love your videos! We’re very close in age and some of the stuff you say kills haha great work. Anyway I do aggressive street riding and live right near the Alberta and British Columbia Rockies. I’d like your help with which of the two boots I’m looking at are more comfortable, durable or just a better protective boot all around. My choices are the Sidi Mag1/ Rex or the Alpinestars Supertech R. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

They did that on the Vortice and it was not really used very much. Most riders did not take advantage of that option. - Van

Does the red clips undo, like the vortice or mag 1? Concerned that sliding my foot in w leathers on, that it will bunch up near the bottom n wont be able to get the leathers to sit in right... The way the vortice opened was great. , to remove em you loosen it up n pull the boots off your feet? Or is there a better way

No they do not separate like the Mag 1 Boots. That said the opening is very generous. I am able to get these on with a suit no worries at all. - Van

Hi, Van. Thank you video!!! I have tons questions. XD NO1. I have a the Dainese Axial boots. Try it for the first time it's great, but off the track day My feet thumb will bleed (But it doesn't hurt), Does this require me to change my boots? NO2. How about the SIDI Rex and Alpinestars Supertech R Boots (Alpinestars out of stock now? EU41) I‘m thinking about these two boots. NO3. I tried Rex in 41, The heel top is not the last but the toes are topped, and can't be moved in the closed state, is't right? NO4. What do I need to pay attention to when trying on racing boots? Thank you

Great fix, great ankle flexibility which I need due to a major leg injury, however the getting it on is a bit tough (not bad, it's a trade out).

Where protection is concerned the Rex Boots are every bit as protective as the Vortice. The replaceable sole is a good idea, the issue is not many people purchased the replacement inserts to justify moving it forward. - Van

I have thick calves and ankles. The torque D1 and supertechs will not fit me with my suit. The mag1 is perfect for me. I can latch all anchors even without breaking the boot in. How would these fit around my calves?

This will be pretty close to the Mag 1's. IMO if the Mag 1 works for you I would stick with that. - Van

I guess a dumb question but can jeans go over the boot or is it strictly leathers/pants inside the boot?

You can run with jeans over the boots if you like and they will fit over the uppers of the boot. - Van

I would drop the Mag 1 from this as I feel the other 2 are the better options. End of the day they are both excellent boots so odds are you will be happy with either of them. Comparing the fit the Sidi boots run a touch to the narrow side where the Astars offer a more average width. If you get a good fit from Sidi boots from past experience you will love the Rex. Now if your feet lean towards the wide side of the scale I would suggest the Astars Supertech. - Brian Van

Hello- I’m hoping you can steer me in the right direction for which boots to purchase? I’m seriously looking to buy some boots for protection, comfort and mobility. I ride only street so the most importantly thing is protection and 2nd mobility. Got to have good control and movement with your feet. Which pair of boots would you recommend over the other for street riding 1. Sidi Mag-1 Air boot Or 2. Sidi Rex boot Thank you for any feedback

Hello Mr Van, do you think that these could be used under riding jeans? I currently own mag-1's purchased from you guys but they are getting retired. When I take my bike to the track I usually build a road trip around it, and with the mag-1's I could use them underneath my riding jeans for the trip to help with comfort, I was hoping to be able to do the same with the Rex, so that I wouldn't need to carry an extra pair of boots. I wear 8.5 on the mag-1's so probably the same in the Rex. For context I'd say the jeans have 8-8.5 inch opening. Any help would be appreciated, Best regards, J.

I just put on my Rex boots and was able to get them under the legs of my jeans no worries. You are good to go! - Van

Yes I do not have any trouble getting my leathers in the boots. We have several racers and track riders using these boots now as well. - Van

Thanks for the video, my question to everyone is: How does this compare to the Mag 1 boot? Which offers more protection? Comfort? Looks better (subjective)? Please let me know what you suggest. Be as detailed as you can. Thanks in advance 😊

I have both and have ridden in both. The Mag 1 offers a little less lateral ankle support than the Rex does, this would be the only difference in protection between the 2 with the Rex on top. Comfort between the 2 is very close with the Rex offering less resistance in the ankle area fore and aft. The Mag 1 is easier to get in and out of and the Rex is easier to lace up (tighten the adjusters). The top entry of the Rex takes a little getting used to, once you have that dialed in they are super easy to use. Hope this helps! - Van

good morning, I am Italian and I apologize for my English if not perfect. a question I have to do, I bought the sidi Rex and I would like to know, the outer frame of the boot is the rigid plastic one, in my right boot, where there is the ankle joint, right in the joint where there is the sidi logo, when I bend the ankle it tends to widen and in doing so we see the screw inside which holds the joint together with the rest of the carcass, do you think it is normal that this happens? the left does not do it, while the right one when I bend my foot right in the joint area widens ... you see the screw that holds it together. thank you for the information.

It is normal for the boot to flex a bit for sure. To be fair it is hard to say for sure if there is an issue without seeing the boot in person. I would suggest you take a close look at the screws to make sure they are tight. - Van

They are both excellent boots. The Rex offers a little more lateral ankle support than the Mag 1 while the flex of the Mag 1 appeals to some riders. Hopefully this helps you decide which one is better for you. - Van

Sidi has discontinued the replaceable sole with the Vortice. Looking at our sales history we have sold more Vortice Boots than replacement sole inserts. My bet is this is the reason why they did not move that feature forward. - Van

So far Mini Van has only ridden the R3 on the track, Honda Grom on the street and a Z125 on the street (street being parking lots and paddock). I can tell you he prefers the performance of the Grom to the Z125 (Z125 looks better) and loves the R3 on the track. In the spring of 2019 he will get a chance to ride the Ninja 400 on the track so he will have something to compare the R3 to. Thanks for watching and stay tuned! - Van

I assume Max crashed in that boot? How did it hold up? Also, does it have the same calf size of the Mag1s?

Negative, Max crashed in the TCX RT Race Boots and they held up very well. I had him help out with the video because the only size available here in the US at this time was an 8.5 US. Comparing this to the Mag 1 the Rex will accomadate much larger calves. I have both models here in an 8.5 US and there is a massive difference. - Brian Van

48 Euro or 13 US is the largest size the Sidi Rex Boots are produced in and 47 Euro or 12.5 US for the Rex Air version. - Van

He is staying on that R3 or another lightweight for at least the next few seasons. He really wants to race in the MotoAmerica Junior Cup when he is old enough (hopefully he is good enough) and that would be 2020 at the earliest. - Van
