I started this Spring at age 54.after experiencing all the bad signs - no energy, depression, horrible sleep, terrible workouts and lack of strength. Finally starting to come back. I'm an elite amateur mountain bike racer and had good levels and could build good muscle. I do everything right - diet, no alcohol etc. I really think so many guys could benefit getting tested and may really be struggling with depression. Too many doctors are dismissive.

Diet is one of those tricky things because different people seem to have different conceptions of what is truly healthy. For example, a lot of people don't know (or want to believe) this, but a vegan diet (I'm not vegan btw) seems to show some promise in raising testosterone levels both total and free and lowering some of the T binding globulin, and all that "soy boy" stuff has been completely, utterly debunked by both science and a lot of anecdotal voices. In fact, phytoestrogen can in a sense compete with true estrogen and trick your body that you have enough so that it doesn't convert T into estrogen if there is bit of an excess or what not of the T. Granted, you want/need some true estrogen in your body as well--there is a reason why males make it to begin with. One of the only foods that is shown to directly and significantly lower testosterone is cow dairy--particularly full fat, partly because it has true estrogen/female type hormones in it (which is higher than its ever been). Apparently goat and sheep milk have a bit less. The less fat in the dairy product, the less of the female hormones because they are fat binding. If you're drinking a lot of 2% to whole fat milk, especially eating a lot of cheese, etc, it will definitely lower your overall T levels. With all that said, while I eat mostly plant based, I don't eat completely vegan. I eat some sardines, egg yolks, etc occasionally, and do do a little of the nonfat dairy (A2/A2 only). Mostly a whole foods diet with an emphasis on easier to digest, nutritionally dense, more alkaline reacting than not, and inflammation reducing (both of the latter essentially meaning I eat a lot of non starchy veggies and fruits). Basically it is kind of similar to Tom Brady's, which clearly works very well for him. The guy is a dinosaur in athlete years/terms, and yet still very high functioning, and there is no way that it is all "genetic" when he's been so carefully and disciplined about his diet for many years now. I've been researching, experimenting on myself and trying to figure out all this stuff for about 29 years now. The more I learn, the less it feels I know at times. There is so much to learn in this area. But whole foods is a good place to start. High in vegetables (especially dark leafy greens and ferments) is a good place as well. Meat can up your M-tor activation and thus initially give you better muscle gains, but also at the cost of reducing your life span long term. Hence why I go easy on it, and recommend natural supplements (like fisetin, NMN, resveratrol, etc) that counter balance that to some extent. High meat and/or animal based protein tends to also increase inflammation to some extent. Also, occasional true fasting, and some regular intermittent fasting is very helpful to true health. More people of late are doing the intermittent, but few people ime/observation do more full, true, longer term fasts. Oh, interestingly, the Blue Zone areas/peoples are all low to moderate meat (especially as compared to US Americans) and one of the healthiest of that group is no meat (large 7th Day Adventist community in CA).
@xmonikerhotmailcom
@xmonikerhotmailcom 2 года назад
@@justinw1765 I can completely confirm that the soy boy nonsense is just that, nonsense. I have been whole plant diet, no animal products for 21 years. I have high normal testosterone and I work out 5 days a week at 51. I think the anti inflammation effects of the plant diet along with avoiding oxidized cholesterol and TMAO molecules among other things really helps the body do it's job. When people consume meat they often grill it brown or black. That is just oxidative stress the body has to clean out. I take supplements like B12 (like anyone over 50 should) and others because of soil depletion but I love the diet, it gives me pretty much everything I need and as a bonus I don't have to kill animals or damage the planet nearly as much.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I'm 50 years old and I did TRT for 13 months between the ages of 42-43. Due to a job loss at the time, I couldn't afford it anymore. What I can tell you was that my T-level went from the low 300s to the mid 900s and it was life changing. All of the pros said in this video are 100% correct as I experienced them personally. I'm in a better position financially now and plan on starting TRT again in early 2023. The negative side effects I had when I did TRT the first time were back acne after 2 months of injections. What my clinic did was change the testosterone to a "blended" form and prescribed me tetracycline. Within a few weeks, the acne cleared up. I was getting weekly intra muscular injections of 1.25 CCs (alternating shoulders weekly) as well as an injection in my tricep of a medication (don't recall the specific name now) that helped maintain sperm production. Somewhere around month 4, my estrogen levels rose to a risky level. The clinic prescribed me some pill that I had to go to a compound pharmacy to get. I took it twice a week - 30 minutes before my Monday injection and then again mid-week....Thursdays. My estrogen levels were back to normal on the following blood test. Hope this helps for anyone thinking about starting TRT in the future.

There's a really good RU-vid video which goes into detail about how the American medical system has slowly normalized low T in men. It states that normal T levels used to be between 1000-1500 ng/dl, in say my great grandparents, day (I'm 36 btw). They also stated that DNA test done on men much older than that show normal levels used to be about 1500 ng/dl. It makes sense when you start to connect the dots between all of the chemicals in our food and products and how it's geared towards activating everyone's Alpha Estrogen receptor...the one that leads to more illness and ailments in men and women. I will look for the link and post it if I can find it.

As a clinical exercise physiologist with specialized training in endocrinology, I am 56 years of age and been training since I was about 15 years old and I managed to stay all natural up until a few weeks ago. My total testosterone was great at 740, but my free T was horrible at just 51pg/mL on a range from 46 to 224. Mine I believe was due to contracting COVID last June 2020 and even though I had mild symptoms, it definitely put a strain on my entire body and I have yet to gain back the 9 pounds of muscle I lost in just 12 days of having COVID so I went ahead and started TRT using pellet therapy so I don't have to mess with intramuscular injections. Plus, if you want optimal results you MUST inject small frequent dosages to prevent peaks and valleys. Small frequent injections mimics what the body produces and also prevents conversion to estrogen and/or DHT which is one reason why some guys start to lose hair and/or grow excess body hair. And yes, subQ injections work better than intramuscular especially if you are dosing daily or every other day in very small amounts basically taking your weekly dose and dividing it out by however many shots you will be doing per week. When I say frequent, l am talking daily if you want the best results or at least every other day for decent results if you want your body to use most of what you inject as testosterone instead of converting it to DHT or estrogen. Also, you should NEVER EVER have to take an anti-aromatase going this route. All you need to do is to make sure you take liver supporting supplements, and a supplement that I recommend is called EstroDIM by Orthomolecular products. This will keep all your estrogen metabolites in balance. Ask your doc about Kisspeptin-10. It's a twice weekly subQ injection under the skin that will trigger LH production which in turn will keep your testicles from shutting down. That way when or if you ever taper off the TRT, your body can still be producing testosterone and you won't hit a wall and have to wait weeks if not months for natural production to start again. A lot of men also use HCG like you are doing, but Kisspeptin-10 is better to use because unlike HCG that mimics LH, the Kisspeptin-10 will cause your body to produce LH which is more natural. The info I provided is to be used for informational purposes only and you should consult with your own physician for advice before making any changes to your protocol.

@Total_Body_Fitness_USA 2 года назад
@@networkdude1332 I switched to daily subq 4 weeks ago and I am going tomorrow to get blood work done to see if I am dialed in properly. The problem with the pellets was my DHT was increasing too much and my free T was not high enough. I am thinking the daily subq will fix the problem. I am injecting 20mg daily and the injection includes .01mg of anastrazole so I am doing less than 1mg per week. My estrogen levels were too high as well at 57 when compared to my free T at 125 so that is why I am including it until I get it under control. Hopefully my estrogen is more in the 20-30 range and my free T is in the 200-250 range. I honestly doubt it because I am being very conservative with the dosage and I really don't feel a big difference so far. I think my estrogen is still a bit high based on how I feel. I will post my results when I get the blood tests back on Tuesday or Wednesday.

@Total_Body_Fitness_USA
@Total_Body_Fitness_USA 2 года назад
@@pjfields2382 Any time you do an exogenous hormone like with testosterone it will shut down your natural production. For example, if your natural production was 25mg per day, that would equal to 175mg every week. If you are taking 200mg every two weeks you are essentially taking less than what your body was producing. This is just an example, but using it to make a point. Two things. You are not taking enough and/or your dosing frequency is not adequate. Consult with your physician and ask about increasing your injection frequency to at least twice per week and injecting 100mg per injection and then test again in 3 weeks.

That said, it's pretty incredible how differently it presents in people. I can still put and keep on muscle quite easily and don't really experience any of the symptoms of low T (that I'm aware of, anyway). My doctor refused to consider TRT for that reason. That's because it's not all about total levels of T. Derek from More Plates, More Dates talks about this sometimes. Some men have more sensitive/active androgen receptors so even if they produce 200 to 500 mg/dl or the like, their body is more efficient at using it to the best potential and so they don't necessarily need more T. Other guys might have higher total T, but their receptors are not as efficient. Basically, when you have the actual symptoms of low T is when you need to start adjusting things.

It's very dangerous for him to suggest that after a year he might just stop taking TRT. It needs to be carefully explained that coming off TRT after a long period of use needs to be done with close doctor supervision. If you just stop, your testosterone will fall and in some cases plummet to dangerously low levels. Reason: Your body has shut down producing testosterone on it's own and will take time to gradually return producing it. You also will go through significant withdrawal, as you will never produce enough testosterone to reach the levels you have been at while on TRT after age 40.

I had testicular cancer so currently operating with just one test factory. My level is 290-300 and work with top docs because of the cancer stuff, and not once has anyone ever said anything about low test to me. If you had trouble building/maintaining muscle with around 500, I guess I don't have much hope. Have to mention that trt is usually for life, since your natural production has almost shut down by now and might never bounce back again when you stop, especially as you age. So starting should be considered with that in mind (plus the potential blood thickening, prostate stuff, etc of course).

I also had low t with 500. Most doctors dont understand that everyone needs different amount to thrive. I may have had 1000 when young and healthy but havent tested then unfortunately. So diagnosing low t should be done more by symptoms and some understandings what are the optimal levels for a certain age. At my age there are people who feel goood on such levels but I had 90 percent of the symptoms. For the simplicity of this explanation when speaking of total t I assume we all have equal SHBG and albumin which of course is not true and makes things even more complex. Another thing is the reference ranges are flawed and too low nowadays. They are the mean average of the mass population which is far from healthy and optimal and continue to drop every few years.
@Pest87
@Pest87 2 года назад
There are a lot of myths regarding TRT and only a specialist who is competent in HRT can address them. Most of the endocrinologists in the managed health care just havent received any proper training in sex hormones and practice outdated protocols. Its not their falf, the system needs to be corrected to address this. So regarding the myths - TRT doesnt increased the risk of prostate issue, this has been debunked in the last years. It is just on the contrary. Testosterone in optimal levels when estrogen is not blocked is also cardio protective. The blood thickening is very small and transient if the individual is non-smoker and doesnt have sleep apnea. The only real side effect TRT has is drcreasing fertility and HCG and FSH successfuly counter that.
@medic1rn12
@medic1rn12 2 года назад
As with all things medicine, your signs and symptoms should guide different treatments. Depression is the main reason I take TRT and I am a medical professional in anesthesia and my levels are best at around 800-1000. That is the level where my depression is noticeably better, my fatigue goes away, and I feel mentally the best. Some men operate with fart less and have no symptoms, it is why every man is different. No two people are the same. So, before anyone says 500 is not low, the issue is at 500 do you still show signs of low testosterone and if so, you go up a little.

@og_sane
@og_sane 2 года назад
Subscribed. Thanks for a very informative video! Here's my story if anyone's interested. I'm turning 30 next month and been on TRT for a year. My S-Testo was only 1 nmol/l so super low. Started with Sustanon, but then switched to Nebido which I've been on since March 2021. First when using Sustanon, I felt some difference in libido. Then, almost the same time when switching to Nebido, I went through a breakup from my fiancee and a huge change in life overall. My existing anxiety got much worse and is still bad with some symptoms of depression too. S-Testo went from 1.0 to 5.4 with Sustanon in about 3-4 months. Still very low though. Then, switched to Nebido and since then I haven't noticed any improvement in libido or my overall wellbeing. In Finland when you get TRT from public healthcare, you rarely get good treatment. My TRT is from public healthcare and I'm gonna go to a private doctor soon. At highest, my S-Testo was 18 last August, but I still felt very poor. Libido still low and quality of sleep so bad. The injection gap for Nebido is 12 weeks which seems way too high. Yet doctor is not willing to shorten it for example 8-10 weeks. I just checked my testo and other related values in private lab. S-Testo was only 10.9 and the other values were always low. No wonder I feel horrible. Although I've been suffering from anxiety for 11 years, way before I was diagnosed with hypopituitarism and very low testosterone, I still strongly believe that these testosterone-related problems also affect my wellbeing very much. I guess TRT has partly worked so far, because I feel a bit stronger than before TRT. Sadly, I haven't been able to exercise for a long time because my resting heart rate is often high due to anxiety. I'm still trying to stay positive and hope that going to private doctor will understand my case. Still young and have a life to live. Just right now with all these symptoms, life isnt't worth living. Luckily I'm not suicidal or something like that, but sometimes this just feels too much. Before I was diagnosed with low testo, I used to go jogging and play football (soccer). It's still easily my number one passion in sports. Going to gym is also a thing I wanna do and will as soon as it's possible. Thanks for listening 🙏.

@TheSwayzeTrain
@TheSwayzeTrain 8 месяцев назад
Hello Stuart, did you get your folate levels tested again after supplementing with folic acid for a period of time? A significant portion of the population (over 40%) have a gene variant of MTHFR that means they cannot effectively convert folic acid into the useable form in the body which is called methylfolate. You can do specific genetic tests to determine if you have those gene variants. If you do have one of these variants, supplementing with folic acid will make you feel worse. Instead of using folic acid you would want to be supplementing directly with methylfolate 5-MTHF directly, the usable form. Obviously if your body is able to convert folic acid effectively, there is no issue in supplementing with folic acid. Its just another factor to consider.

Thank you much for sharing this. I'm starting in January, test cyp micro dosing with HCG, and it's hearing your positive story that really puts my anxieties at ease. Here's to everyone best health, who's test levels have caused them years of misery. Thanks again
