I wanted to thank you so much for taking the time to carefully explain and demonstrate how to make clear polymer stamps. I was inspired by watching your videos on the subject and decided to give a try. I just made my second attempt, being very careful to follow your instructions, and I DID IT! My first stamp was of my name. With this success I now have the courage to go on to bigger projects. You are a great teacher.

What I don't understand is why we are all still buying stamps? For me I only have 3 sets of simple images for my journal..but this looks so fun. Also I've watched people give craft room tours that have hundreds of stamps. Wow, the money they could save after the initial investment of the lamp and materials. Love your channel & hope to make a stamp one day. It's not as difficult as I would have thought. Thank you so much
@createinspain
@createinspain 5 лет назад
Aah, a good question I have wondered about too. Part of the problem is that most people don't know that you can make them yourself. When I started this I had to teach myself from scratch. I'm not kidding about the difference made in swapping out the bulbs either. When I first started this and was using the old fashioned u shaped bulbs, the curing time varied so much, it was really hard to get consistent results. The LEDs are so much better, even if the original purchase is more expensive, they last way longer and work better. You should also be aware that many of those crafters are, or have worked for, stamp producing companies and if they designed a set, they will have been not only paid for that work but get samples as well.. The great benefit of making your own is not just in the savings. Having the freedom to make a stamp in the size YOU choose, or even multiple sizes; make personalised gift stamps, making a stamp of your own design or of your own signature or favourite font; being able to take an image font and make it a stamp..the benefits go on. Don't forget you can even make tiny stamps for nail art! So Please, anyone reading this, spread the word to your fellow crafters and let them in on the big secret!:)

Thank you for all your videos. I got my VX55 working with my lamp and got the settings perfect. I have good insight into why the exposures sometimes work well and sometimes not. Basically the UV LED's have an angle they shine at. This means that the rays spread out and are not directed directly downwards. You can solve this by putting aluminium foil inside a box so that the UV gets reflected all over the box to give a better chance of getting it though the negative. Solved all my problems and no longer get some that work and some that do not.

I run a commercial stamp shop and although we switched completely to laser engraving a long time ago, I would like to point out a few more things here from my experience. First off, we always use black thermal toner sensitive foil for exposure sheet (the same kind you use to create gold or glitter text greeting cards) Secondly, we always place specialised substrate sheet over the gel otherwise your exposed rubber would just limp around and have no rigidity to be placed on stamp handles. And finally, the rubber should always be suspended in anti-stick solution for that last fixing exposure!!
@createinspain
@createinspain 4 года назад
Thanks for the Pro viewpoint - however I have no issue with doing it this way. Stamps come out just fine, no problem with rigidity and while I agree anti stick solution would be ideal, I can cope without it.

@createinspain

A lot. You think of the weight of a stamp and the bottles are 1Kg or about 2.2Lb. However it is not for the faint hearted. Watch the playlist 'Most important stamp making' and pay attention to the details.

@kcjd8659 5 лет назад
This is amazing! Do you have an absolute beginner’s video? I want to do this but have no clue how to get started. Also I’m in the US if that makes any difference. Also, is the polymer toxic before it’s cured or while curing? I have a toddler running around.
@createinspain
@createinspain 5 лет назад
You being in the States makes it easier since you can buy the liquid on Amazon (link above). I think most things were covered in this video but there are over 40 in the playlist (also linked above) they are numbered, the higher the number the most recent. So start at the latest and work back - the older ones use slightly different methods. While the polymer isn't toxic, you don't want a toddler getting into it. Some people are sensitive to it or can build up sensitivity. Also it is EXTREMELY STICKY! You don't want it getting on carpets or furnishings, it would be a nightmare to clean up! The liquid needs to be kept in the dark when not being used, my decanted bottles are kept in a drawer. The one sold in the States is green tinted, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6V_l3zOQrVU.html gives information on curing times for it.

Is it possible to make the stamps deeper by simply having a higher border? I would like to make them for use with polymer clay, and deeper is better. Thank you SO much for your tutorials. They are the clearest available, I think! :)
@createinspain
@createinspain 4 года назад
Thank you, I have tried to give as much detail as possible to help people get good results and have made A LOT of stamps in the process! Yes, the stamp can be thicker if you really need it to be. These are 3mm thick in total but it depends on how high your dam is. Be mindful that the curing times will need adjusting, stick with the short base time and increase the time for the design. Make sure your design is very dark, or with longer cures you may get some infill you don't want. Be prepared to waste gel in experimentation till you get it right!

I apologize if this has been answered but I've seen a few makers stick the stamp directly on the acrylic block. Is the block sticky or the actual stamp? How do you store the stamps?
@createinspain
@createinspain 3 года назад
I guess you have never used polymer stamps? The stamp itself is sticky and remains sticky. That is why it is so good at picking up the ink. So it jut stays on the acrylic block until you peel it off. I store mine on plastic inside plastic CD sleeves, along with the printed image.

Thanks very much for this. I have a uv nail lamp. I have a digital cutting machine. I can get everything but the photopolymer liquid gel. I've just spent about an hour searching amazon.co.uk (I'm in UK) and ebay and googling etc. Currently unavailable on amazon. Not on ebay, but some other brand is available from Russia for about £23 for 350ml PLUS import duties/customs fees, which is a bit pricey for something I just want to try out. I can't find the NG7 anywhere online at all. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. thanks again. :)

www.colop.co.uk/en/product-overview/systems-materials/photopolymer.html You may not be able to buy it on line from them but a phone call to the company should get you the polymer. If they are not helpful, contact Photocentric in the UK. Make sure you look at the lamps I use - if you have the old fashioned U shaped ones it will be much harder to get consistent results.

Hello. I saw you washing up the stamp in the bowl and you stated you usually do it with running water in the sink. Is there any risk of blocking up your pipes with this stuff? Like maybe it getting caught on things in the pipe and building up over time? Thanks.

No more than you would with many other things but if you do it in a bowl, you can sieve out any solids.

With your cardstock method, what colors can be used?
@createinspain
@createinspain 5 лет назад
It wasn't even card stock it was just a thick construction paper from Aldi. Re colour, as long as it does not let light through, it does not matter greatly. I would use a strong colour though. If you really want to be safe, use black.

I just replied to a previous question about the gel, you need to contact Colop and ask where you can get either VX55 or NG7 stamp making photopolymer liquid. The frames I use are 3 D printed - 3mm thick. Basically if you can make a frame from something that thickness, it will be fine. The 'most important stamp making' playlist has all the info you could need.
