My good friend, Mike (ichingiching), recently made a video of a song called Hot Red Hair. That prompted me to record this song that my dad used to sing all the time when I was growing up. He was usually at least slightly inebriated when he did it, but he was a happy drunk most of the time, and I have fond memories of him singing this song. It's also about a hot (modern vernacular) redhead! BTW there are at least two different versions of this song. In one version, the second verse is more politically correct. This is the politically incorrect version, because that's the one my dad sang!
Verse 1:
I drove a herd of cattle down
That old Nebraska way.
That's how I came to be in
The state of Ioway.
I met a gal in Ioway;
Her eyes were big and blue.
I asked her what her name was,
And she said Sioux City Sue.
Chorus:
Sioux City Sue, Sioux City Sue,
Your hair is red, your eyes are blue
I'd swap my horse and dog for you!
Sioux City Sue, Sioux City Sue;
There ain't no gal as true as
My sweet Sioux City Sue!
Verse 2:
Now I'm admittin' Ioway,
I owe a lot to you.
I came down from the plains land,
Just to meet Sioux City Sue.
I'm gonna rope and tie her up.
I'll use my old lassoo.
I'm fixin' to put my brand on
That sweet Sioux City Sue.
Sioux City Sue, Sioux City Sue,
Your hair is red...
