THIS! I came from Brawl and Smash 4 playing on Wii Mote sideways, and now have to adapt to a GCC (only because it is cheaper and better for tournaments), and I have been struggling to adapt well. Most of my issues come from the Analog stick. I much prefer the D-Pad for Movement.

@@Ryan-Bell You ask this like most fighting games don't already support d-pads. I prefer a d-pad for movement personally because it just helps me pull off movement and whatnot far more accurately than a stick. Fighters with d-pad support typically do walking when you press, running with a quick double tap. Tilting would work the exact same. All I can see you missing out on are taunts unless they do a special binding there.

@@Ryan-Bell not if you ask older people like me. Double tap to run is second nature for me. So many times whn playing Smash I want to press down, but instead I get down forward etc. It's frustrating and such a thing simply doesn't happen with the D-pad.

@@crate4886 It probably doesn't because there are two different colours for the SNES controller, with most everywhere else having the four colour buttons. It probably changes dynamically to reflect both of those. If this happens in the NES app, too, then it would need to do the same to match the Famicom and NES colour schemes.

I'm excited to play Tropical Freeze with this thing. I'm sure it'll require those tiny ZL and ZR buttons to grab barrels and vines, but other than that, I can't wait to roll jump with Y and B again with a comfortable SNES pad, like the good old days

Totally worth it to play with 2D fighters. Having a blast playing Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, and FighterZ with it. Why didn’t Nintendo have this D-Pad for the Pro controller ? It’s so much better with the SNES Controller.

Nintendo of Europe didn’t even let people order these controllers until Oct 1st (two days ago) two weeks after American orders were available. And then they were sold out by midday. I got lucky, checked the website when I woke up on Tuesday before going to work, and instantly bought one there and then. There probably wasn’t much traffic on the Nintendo UK website at 6am.

AstrosGamer Have you ever played the Super Nintendo MARIO games? I played them growing up all the time, Y and X to run, B to jump, and A is a spin jump. In order to play the game you have to hold Y down to run and press B while still holding Y to jump while running, which you can clearly see him doing in the video.

Good to see this can work on more than just SNES games, which means I can use it for Kirby Star Allies and Super Kirby Clash. I'm already feeling glad that I ordered it recently. Those were the primary games I wanted to use it on. The D-pad is my preferred method of controlling directional input in Kirby games, and it also offers no JoyCon drift. It's the perfect controller for Kirby. As far as other games go, I'll probably experiment when it comes in.

Link's Awakening remake only accepts analog-stick input. Better deal to use the SNES Classic controller with the 8bitdo Gbros adapter, which lets you remap the dpad to either stick. 👍 Zero perceptible lag, confirmed on latest firmware. Also has Home and Camera buttons, and can also sync to PC.

Fun fact: The 8bitdo SNES controller (the original one, not the pro) works with Smash or Links Awakening, because the d-pad imitates the analog stick.

I've read somewhere (but I don't have this controller so I wasn't able to test it) that if you press ZR + R, it's the Home button in other games and just like that, L + ZL works like the screenshot button. So this could make it a little easier to play with when sitting on the couch (and not playing 5 inches from the Switch lol)

Kinda a bummer link's awakening doesnt allow you to use dpad, even though it's mostly fixed to 8 axis movement and ZL ZR has the same function as L R. The only thing that the sticks are required is only the map screen. It's fine though.

You don't need the cable to sync it. You just need to press in the sync button while on the controller pairing screen.

NES controller works with Mario Kart Wii emulated, tho. You can set U/D to items, L/R to turning, B to drift/brake/jump/flip, and A to accelerate.

It will work just fine with MK8 Deluxe. I should know, I used an actual SNES controller to play some games on the switch. Works better than you think and feels full circle with certain game.

I hope they can find some way to add a toggle for the NES and SNES online controllers so that the d-pad can be read as the left analog stick. That would add a crap ton more compatibility to so many games. Hell, while I'm at in, can we get system wide button remapping like on PS4 and Xbox One? Remapping the SNES d-pad to an analog stick would be awesome, but being able to remap the GameCube controller buttons would make a lot of games more playable on that pad. And it would be nice if I could use RU-vid by holding a single Joy Con vertically but none of the buttons are set up for that.

Imo the sn30 8bitdo controller is better. Its dpad is acting as the left control stick making it compatible with eg link's awakening or smash. Also select+down acts as the home button making it always available. The only thing it really lacks is zl and zr buttons compared to the snes classic controller. I have noticed that pressing start and select simultaneously acts as zl + zr though (making it possible to pause and change games in the NES and SNES apps).

If anyone is curious, it connects with mac os very easily just by opening bluetooth preferences and it actually sees it a "snes controller". Unfortunately I noticed that during play with openemu, things felt a touch laggy.. So i then connected my sn30 pro plus, and it felt instant in comparison.. So if you use these with a PC (windows users reported many problems.. at least on mac it connects straight away), you get latency you don't get when used with the switch. Just a heads up.

I wish they had the European/Japanese versions of the controllers available, I grew up playing SNES games on a Super Famicom with a SNES cart adapter so the concave buttons don't feel right to me.
