- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup long grain rice
- 1/4 cup onion
- 2 slices jalapeno
- salt/pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 packet chicken bouillion
- 8 oz. can tomato sauce
- 2 cups hot water

Just made this. I'm making it for a gathering so did it x5. Was nervous but it came out sooo good. Followed exactly but did add a little cumin.

Thank you for the tips, they were very informative. Please explain why you use hot water instead of using tap water or cold please. That would be very good as well. your video was great! I thought rice would burn at 30 minutes but now know that it will not be a mortal sin! 😂

Welcome, Faith! I use hot tap water because it saves time for it to boil. I have also found that when I start with cold, it comes out kind of mushy. With Spanish rice, you also toast it first then slow cook it on low for 30 min. Comes out fluffy and perfect every time! Thanks for watching! 😊

This is amazing, made it 4 times already and so easy. Not many ingredients needed either. When i run out of tomato sauce i'll use half one of those 6 oz tomato paste cans and use same ampunt of water to blend it before i put it in the pan (3 oz= about 1/3 a cup of water)😊

If your working with a gas stove, find the smallest element to let it simmer for the 30 min. I noticed that my flame was too much on the medium element even though it was on low., so I moved it. I caught it in time to not burn and but this was very tasty indeed!

I will try the long simmer vs the rolling boil I currently use , my rice cooks 10-15 mins sooner than yours but I don't mind trying this method . I do not however understand the stock cubes , is this just to save money or something for people who don't have stock or make stocks? I find water to be horrible for cooking with in any form , hear me out , not only does it have ZERO flavour itself , but it also is diluting the flavours already in a dish . I literally use stock even just to boil plain rice and you should taste the difference of a rice which has absorbed a good stock vs some tap water. I literally would prefer any liquid vs water , wine , stock , I mean , even a fruit juice , something with flavour and body. Now if someone can not afford stock or the meat which has the bones to make a stock , this is different , my heart then goes out to them and by all means , use water when you cook meals . Hello! For Spanish rice, you want to make sure you toast the rice until it’s a golden brown color. Then you add everything else. It’s different than boiling your typical white rice. The chicken bouillon packets and cubes are concentrated chicken stock that’s mixed with water to create stock like you would when you boil your meat with water. They’re really popular in the south. You can definitely just stick to regular stock. For people who don’t have the chicken bouillon or stock, they can simply add water. The rest of the spices used still give it a nice flavor. Had a question, you said you use long grain Rice , but the picture you show was extra long grain rice. Does it make a difference in cooking from one to another?

Hi Robert! Either long or extra long will work just fine. It is a slim type rice that cooks up fluffy and doesn't clump the way, say, short-grain rice does. Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy it. 😊

I find fluffing with a fork keeps the rice from getting mushy, just a suggesting, you certainly know what you are doing.
