hey man i just wanted to say that I as a trans person used to big really into motorcycle youtube and slowly got turned away when it felt that I really wasn't welcome. I don't remember who it was but eventually some bike guy I watched released a video that was just this really insane rant about how the water supply is poisoned with estrogen and that's what's making everyone gay and woke and how he only drinks special non-contaminant water or something after that I was basically done. Due to general anxiety from transitioning I hadn't been actively riding in years but I discovered your channel just as I was picking it back up and it has been very nice to see the kind of content I felt excluded out of years ago from someone who is not buying into the toxic masculinity aspect of bike culture. so thank you

I kept forgetting to watch the last 15 minutes that I didn't have time to watch at work. I do like going to the gym; I like seeing all the people trying to better themselves and I'm addicted to ellipticals. You mention transitioning later in life. I started medically transitioning at 42 and publicly transitioning at 43. Sure I would have liked to have started sooner knowing what I know now, but I don't want to waste any time wishing I started sooner. I want to keep moving forward with whatever time I have left in my existence. While I'll never be as beautiful as Sara, I can say I'm much happier with how I look and present now and it has totally been worth it.

40:36 It took me awhile, but this is where I eventually got to also. Sports don't *Matter*. "Oh, but scholarships!" Maybe people should be able to get an education without destroying themselves and their free time. "But the Olympics!" are so over-wrought and economically ruinous we should really rethink the whole enterprise. (You don't want your favorite sport in the Olympics anyway.) "Yeah, but profe-" Professional sports are cool. That's it. It isn't special, it doesn't actually matter who wins the superbowl or whatever. None of it's more important than people coming together and having a good time.

AJ, I went through a divorce almost five years ago. I started therapy shortly after. My psychiatrist told me I should find something fulfilling to do with my free time. And that lead me back to motorcycles after 10+ years of "growing up" and "getting my sh!t together" and measuring my self worth against societal norms. Motorcycles have without a doubt impacted my mental health in a positive way that I don't think could have been replicated with other means. Stay positive man. And make sure you don't agree to anything without having YOUR lawyer review it.

I like your approach. You're speeding to get away from the cars. I ride a leg barreled bike to work and feel like a hunted rabbit, but it's the best instinct to respond to. Traffic has to happen, so I do everything I can to help speed it along, so I make improvised turn signals that everyone ignores. And in the end I'll be ran over by a guy that didn't get his coffee in time.
@mikecast7340

Its funny I ran into you. I don't ride motorcycles but I do watch creators in this area. I ride electric unicycles which have similar dangers to motorcycles. Anything I can lean for a motorcycle creators, the better. But what drove me here was the trans issue. Personally, I do not know any trans people. However, I do feel that it is my duty to defend them to the end of the earth. Just on a humanitarian level. I simply don't take kindly to transphobes. Hopefully you can solve your personal issues with ease. There are two things to remember. 1) There are people out there have it worse off then you do where it makes your problems seem first world. And 2) Remember what they say: "It gets better". Hang in there, whatever you are going though "This too will pass".

Every time I see pre-transition or transition progress photos, all I think is “Oh my god, look at how far they’ve come!” I know some people might hate seeing themselves before transitioning, but I just feel so happy seeing not only the physical changes but also how much happier and more confident they become. Nobody should feel ashamed of themselves because of what they looked like before HRT, and I hope that more people can focus on the progress because it’s always just so astonishing to me to see the difference.
@thefaboo
@thefaboo Год назад
When I see pretransition photos I kind of search for recognition in those old photos: what did they see that they wanted to bring out in themself? Maybe an over the top comparison, but Michelangelo said that when he carved a statue he was simply removing the stone that wasn't the figure. Those amazing scultures were there the whole time, but we couldn't see it until he showed us.

second comment bc i couldnt finish the video before lol. the people who think trans women in womens sports are a serious issue look silly as hell. like i am not from the us but even i heard trans kids cant safely go to school bathrooms anymore. like, get real, being trans is a huge disadvantage in life in general. how many trans women are top athletes? and in contrast: how many trans children cant play on their schools teams? how comes no one argues trans men have a "disadvantage" and therefore have unfair experiences? how many trans kids never play sports bc changing rooms and gendered sports are a hazard to them? not even getting into the class aspect you mentioned. if someones holding you back from success, its oppressive forces from above. not trans women, who are struggling alongside you, who are fighting for womens rights as well.

@@alsolii oh yeah, absolutely! i agree entirely! what i mean is that trans women are forced into men's locker rooms in so many countries, and THAT is what is a hazard to them. i entirely agree every trans person should be able to use the bathrooms and lockers they feel comfortable in but unfortunately this isn't the case. sorry if my comment was unclear, english isn't my native language. the intent was to compare the numbers of top trans athletes people claim to be concerned about (very small number, cant think of a single one personally) with the numbers of trans kids forced to be in lockers/restrooms/teams that don't match their identity (smth i hear about every day) to show how ridiculous and harmful that mindset is to transgender people.

electric bikes can be so fun... perfect for the country side to get around as a single. generally speaking i think the most sustainable vehicle is often one that doesnt have to be build but theyre absolutely worth looking into. definitely gotta keep in mind though how much more quiet you are, esp if theres strong wind. you dont want someones dog or horse or grandma or what have you to get spooked by your sudden appearance when youre passing by.
@AlatheD
@AlatheD Год назад
Whoa electric bikes look cool! For those panicking about things like hands off etc, the same things apply to bicycles, just in some cases to a lesser degree. You can only go so fact on a bicycle, and sometimes you need that speed to pull a thing off. First learn not to topple, then get comfortable with you wheels. Then you can work on "tricks" and fun things. Life's kinda that way too, you know. I'm rapidly approaching 50, just started T. Change is hard, man, big changes can feel life-crushing. Sometimes the only way to get through it is one day at a time, one hour at a time, or one minute at a time. You're going through some big shit, deal with it as you can. Like all of us, you may screw up because you're human. One moment at a time, whatever your moment looks like. Even if it's kicking back into the wind and flipping off the world.

39:22 I feel like she should be allowed to compete even if people didn't perceive her as a cisgender woman. Side note, I feel really awkward and uncomfortable when someone tries to compliment me by saying "I could NEVER perceive you as anything but a woman". Idk how to articulate why it bugs me so much tho. "Looking like a woman" is only a standard that people apply to transgender women. Like nobody would even think to say that about a cis woman. Also I feel like the implication is that, if I didn't look like a cis woman, they wouldn't perceive me as being a woman? I guess part of why it makes me uncomfortable is that they think it's a compliment to tell me that I don't "look" like a trans woman. And I hear that from other trans women too, so I think it's maybe a result of the social conditioning to view women with "masculine" features as being ugly.

Great video, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts :) I started following your content because of the 'transphobe to trans ally' video too!! It was so good!! Its so uncommon, even for well meaning people, to look at their own transphobia. Like I think literally everyone in our current society is taught transphobia, but they think, well I never verbally harassed and assaulted a transgender woman, so I'm not transphobic! But the problem is when people don't think they need to confront their own assumptions, they never actually realize that they might be perpetuating transphobia. So I have a ton of respect for you for actually doing that!! TBH when I saw the title, I assumed you would have been like, actively hating trans people. I honestly think everyone has (or had) the same mindset as you had growing up, they just don't realize it's transphobic. They see people like jkr or dusantis and think they're nothing like those people. So yea you're legit af re trans stuff, imo

Of all things, minecraft and driving fast/taking chances taught me to be a better E-skateboarder on open roads. Minecraft introduced to me the idea of "path finding". That is, of course, the process of finding an optimal route to get to a destination. Driving fast/taking chances improved both my spatial perception and my understanding of when, why, and how cars move. Nowadays, when I'm out skating and I'm pathfinding on the roads, I feel like I better understand what an optimal route is for a car, as well as how much space they'll take and when they're gonna be in that space. Risk analysis can come from the wildest parts of your lived experiences. Think interdisciplinarily and ever stop thinking.

You mentioned that you don’t interact with those you feel are acting in bad faith, however I don’t think you’ve properly addressed the more fair or logical arguments people have against trans women in sports. Also, some of your own comments/arguments have clear flaws, for example, you argued that fairness in sports is practically non existent, but if it’s not important to strive for fairness then why shouldn’t trans women just compete against men? I understand that you have strong beliefs that you wish to express in your videos and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I have noticed that this bias does lead to somewhat of a blindspot sometimes. I felt a bit off about your comments regarding CHAZ and the George Floyd riots because you were so positive about them and it felt like you were ignoring the very real, serious, and lasting damages done by the riots and even arguably the policy changes. Our beliefs are likely 70% the same, but I just get really uncomfortable when I feel like I’m in an echo chamber and i really hope this channel doesn’t go that way. I also think it’s better and more effective to humanize those you disagree with and address their best arguments as that lets you strengthen your own and prevents you from hating your fellow man
@SquidTips
@SquidTips Год назад
I think I spend a lot of effort humanizing people who think differently, far more than most people, but there are limits to my patience and acceptance like anyone else. I will get to the CHOP video at some point and show you what I saw, but I would love to hear what you think the ‘very real, serious, and lasting damage done by the riot’ was.
@sackofclams953
@sackofclams953 Год назад
@@SquidTips there were billions of dollars in damages, people lost their livelihoods, people were hurt and killed and never got justice, crime is still up in many areas so the damage is ongoing, the economic impact has caused supermarkets and grocery stores to close in the most affected areas which tend to be low income, exacerbating food deserts and poverty as a whole. People can debate all day whether the protests/riots did any good or not, but to ignore or downplay the ruination of communities and lives is unfair, illogical, irresponsible and dangerous. It also incentivizes people to do it again while making excuses for those who were only interested in themselves and spreading chaos. I’m sure there are people who had a good time in Chaz/chop, but life is bigger than you and no one pair of eyes can see the whole picture, this is why we use statistics when making policy. I think I should also mention that the reliance on anecdotes is also an issue I have with your “why trans women belong in sports” video. You said that your primary intended audience is anyone with reservations about trans women in sports but you didn’t actually address the points those people make. That woman’s life story can be inspiring and humanizing to many but it simply doesn’t answer the fair questions that people have. Is this fair? Is there a point at which it becomes fair? Is there a reason these trans women shouldn’t compete with men? Why doesn’t it matter that cis women are uncomfortable but it does matter when trans women are uncomfortable? Many of these questions have reasonable replies so there’s real opportunity to potentially sway peoples opinions or at least soften attitudes, and simultaneously it would avoid the common pitfall many make of just viewing the other side as senseless bigots

Those are not logical arguments my guy Trans sportswomen are women, and that association to women's sports is evidently important to them, also...not striving for fairness was never a point made. Inherent advantages always exist, but no inherent advantage exists that cannot be accounted for via training, like the science literally indicates that the physical advantage a male is born with is so fuckin nebulous in the field of sports and has never been substantiated by any real world result See the world of sports where trans people are evidently not dominating across the board the way fearmongering bigots want to believe is happening

@@Jo_youwhatmate the idea that men don’t have clear biological advantages over women in almost every sport is completely ridiculous and requires you to ignore all of human history and present day sports leagues. There is a reason that women don’t play in the leagues that pay much better, it’s because they can’t compete. If you’re talking about advantages at birth alone then that’s still not terribly relevant because most people transition after they hit puberty so they’ll still have a noticeably different body in a few regards. Also, there’s basically no data on trans athletes because they’re so rare and this is only recently becoming prominent, so any scientific arguments in either direction are going to be completely lacking. Also, you seem to have not seen his other video, he spends multiple minutes talking about how most athletes are simply biologically inferior than others and they should just accept that. In the context it’s clear he’s downplaying the importance of fairness, which is at the center of peoples concerns. There are multiple prominent trans athletes who are dominating in women’s sports, that plus intuitive knowledge of male and female physicality makes it reasonable for the average person to feel that this is unfair. Calling everyone who’s concerned about this a bigot is simply unproductive and untrue. You can have compassion towards someone without supporting every single thing they do all the time. I know trans women want to be in women’s sports, but that doesn’t determine whether their participation is fair to others or not. It also doesn’t explain why their feelings should be prioritized over those of other athletes. These are reasonable concerns held by people just as smart and compassionate as anyone else and they should be addressed rather than ignored. If you just ignore them people will assume you have no answer and it ultimately cements their opinions/beliefs

@@sackofclams953 You just don't understand the argument he's making. Sports are inherently _not fair_ . Some people - most people in most sports - have biological advantages that cannot be overcome by training. A lot of other deeply unfair things contribute to who wins sports competitions; doping and money will probably never not be relevant, to name a few. That's why it's weird that you are so obsessed with "fairness". The reality is that trans women entering women's sports will not have a large effect on most sports. A lot of sports already allow trans people to enter, and trans women aren't dominating or whatever. For the most part, their advantages are not going to trump the winning hand of the genetic lottery, the true anomalies of human physique. For example, the average WNBA player is taller than the average man.

My question is, does being born a man and growing up as one, recieving all the physical benefits testosterone bestows on men, such as height, strength, bone density etc. give Sarah an advantage over most biological women in athletic endeavors like pickle ball? If so, i think you've found a problem with trans women playing against biological women ;)

Depends on the sport and when they've started hrt. Even trans women admit that. Body builders who are trans aren't comfortable competing with cis women, but if its a skill sport like skating its fine for anyone to compete with each other.

@@unholynoise3087 Unfortunately untrue. Trans women have broke women's lifting records, it happens. Lia Thomas had an advantage in swimming and still competed. Even in skating the male physiology has advantages. Stop speaking of trans women like one homogenous group, they aren't and therefore regulators have to step in

you should do research on what hrt does to trans women. while it doesn't affect height, it will affect strength and bone density. If you really care about unfair advantages how will you fix it? Because putting people to play against others of their AGAB only gives an unfair advantage to trans men.
@WolfShroom

Please believe that this is an argument in good faith. I think you're missing the point of why people have an issue with trans women in sports. Around 29:10 you acknowledge that there's a point that due to biology you can't be the very best. Trans women are biologically male, and we separate sports by sex because we are a sexually dimorphic species. If we didn't, women wouldn't be competitive in most sports. XX chromosomes are the biological requirement for women's sports. Obviously it is a nuanced situation and not all trans women are the same, but a ruling has to be made at this point. also betrayed by the 'transfem field guide' suggestion at 6:25 lol

Humans aren't as sexually dimorphic as one would think, especially because hormones play a big factor in everything. Trans women who have been on HRT for years (estrogen and antiandrogens), especially if they transitioned earlier in life, have significantly less muscle than cis men. Biologically, trans women have the hormonal makeup of a female. Really when trans people transition, their physical and hormonal biology become closer to an in-between state sort of like intersex conditions or cis people with genetic/hormonal issues. So I think the argument him and me are making is that the issue isn't female vs male, it's more of weight, height, and other physical advantages that stem from winning the genetic lottery. And yes some trans women have physical advantages over cis women. Key word is some, not all. Some cis women have naturally higher levels of testosterone, tall as hell, even getting mistaken for trans women due to their natural build. We don't ban cis women with genetic advantages, we don't ban 6' 1" cis women with PCOS, so don't ban XY genetics since the whole DNA spectrum plays SO MUCH more into someone's advantage in sports than just the sex chromosomes someone was born with.

@@plantaepower6359 Individuals very, yes. Not all trans women have an unfair advantage, yes. It's a nuanced issue, but unfortunately at this point there needs to be a rule put in place. Hormones don't change everything (namely bone structure) and you can't regulate sports on how well someone passes. Because the majority of trans women have gone through years of androgenic puberty, they have some sex-associated advantages. Trans women are socially women, but biologically are estrogenized men. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just a fact about being trans. I'm not saying a blanket ban on all trans women in sports is the solution, but we shouldn't let compassion distract us from the facts of the situation.

there are legitimate scientific studies that have looked into this. what they have found? prepuberty, there is no difference in physical ability of the sexes. post puberty, there is a noticeable difference. but crucially, this difference disappears to nothing after HRT (i believe the tested figure was five years). i’ll do my find it to cite.
