The summer of '84 and this Cubs team is the reason I fell in love with baseball at 7 years old. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work. It great to see & hear Vince Lloyd also. A truly underrated broadcaster and a legend in his own right.

This game was the first I ever attended at Wrigley, at age 14. It was "camera day", where you got to go on the field before the game and take pictures with whatever players came out and mingled. The usher checking tickets said "I hope you have a wide-angle lens for Reuschel!"

Guy in the stands with his shirt off - this is how I imagined most fans being at Cubs games based off all the baseball books I had as a kid (most featured shots of the bleachers where shirts were the exception and not the rule). My first time in the bleachers at a Jays game at old Exhibition Stadium, we sit, and 7 or 8 year old me sits down with the family and starts to take my shirt off....my dad simply asked "What the hell are you doing?" followed by "Put your shirt back on before the seagulls carry you off".

Jay Johnstone, i remember him very well....especially against the mets who were horrible at the time, with schimdt, luzinski, maddox, carlton, boone, bowa, trillo and all the rest of the Phillies, i bought tickets to see phils drill the mets and johnstone was always a tough out, line drive hitter with some pop, man baseball was so different back then.

While I absolutely loved Harry and the fun he brought to The Cubs, ol' Milo couldn't stand him, and in truth, got shafted. Milo would go on to announce for the Astros from 1987 - 2012. Most people don't know that Milo and Harry worked together *twice* - first in '54 calling Cardinals games; then in '84 calling Cubs games. Moreover, Milo worked as a Cubs announcer *twice* too!
@disneyfan8178
@disneyfan8178 Год назад
Actually Milo went to Houston in '85, sort of in exchange for DeWayne Staats. He and Harry worked together in '82. But because they didn't get along (an understatement; although you wouldn't know it from from watching them in action), the Cubs hired Steve Stone to work with Harry on TV, while Milo would work with Lou Boudreau on radio. Harry and Milo would switch places for innings 4, 5 and 6..
@observer3232
@observer3232 2 дня назад
Milo was supposed to be Jack Brickhouse's replacement in 1982 as the TV voice on WGN, but Harry decided to leave the Sox after they went to a pay tv deal with a limited audience. WGN jumped at the chance to get Harry when he showed interest and Milo was furious, he hated the fact Harry was much more popular. After one year of working together on TV, they gave MIlo the #1 radio job, working 6 innings of PBP with 3 on TV and Harry doing the opposite. Which was still a great gig-except Milo remained jealous of Harry. I don't know what went on behind the scenes but Milo went to Houston after a couple years.

I just want to say thank you for posting this, I would like to say that I saw every game the Cubs played in 84, but I missed this one. Do you have the Mets series they played late in the season at Shea stadium? That was a crucial series that led to them winning the NL East.

Moreland's 1st inning HR barely cleared the basket. Harry Caray first said it went onto Waveland, then after seeing a fan in the first row catch it in the replay, he corrected that to 'halfway up the bleachers'. Never understood the adoration for HC as a play-by-play guy, he was one of the worst ever.

@JC-pu7gi You're wrong. The Cubs gave up on him too early. In 1985 with the Pirates Reuschel was 14-8 2.27. In 1987, 13-9 3.09. 1988, 19-11 3.12, and in 1989 he was 17-8 2.94 at age 40. He had a lot left and was definitely not past his prime. The Cubs should have kept him.
