Being part of the gay community myself,I have to say that Disney Star Wars is garbage.I saw Star Wars in 1977 when I was 6 years old.Aside from Rogue One,The writing(if you can even call it that)on these shows and movies is just pure tripe! The people making these things are weirdo activists not creators.All I ask for is well written stories and characters,which we are definitely not getting.Star wars was already made for everyone to enjoy.You don’t try to fix what was never broken.

I know what you mean. I'm technically lumped into that LGBTQ+++++ or whatever they're going with these days but refuse to label myself in that way. My dislike of the current Star Wars has nothing to do with bigotry as they so conveniently try to rest upon. I just want to see good stories and characters that are well written and and entertain me. Not content from an IP that has been acquired and farmed to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for modern activism.

You, my friend, spoke out everything that I've been feeling since the release of VII. As a fan, I don't care about race, gender, political orientation... I care about a good story, the right follow up to great characters from the originals... Even the prequels. But.... Star Wars is extinct. Its fire has gone out of the universe. We, my friend, are all that's left of its greatness. Like Mark Hamill said.. "This is not my Star Wars"

Disney has no respect for the established canon of the characters they are writing for. They just love to introduce them back with zero explanation as to why they have abandoned any character development they previously had. Case in point Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Indiana Jones. They want to reduce them down to grizzled jaded old men.

I'm an older gay white male and even I cringe when I watch these new Star Wars shows. Disney has turned a "galactic space opera" into a soap opera. I will always love the OT the most and never once thought I wasn't a part of that narrative. I felt 100% included. In fact, Star Wars was my escape from a toxic childhood. Anyway, Disney has really shit on Star Wars with one or two exceptions like Andor and Rogue One. It would be awesome if they just sold it off to another studio, but that will never happen. I just keep enjoying the OT and a few other choice pieces of content to satisfy my craving. On another note, I am backing the Hasbro Cantina! Looks really awesome!!!

If Disney insists on making TV length shows they should employ a dedicated team of writers who are invested in Star Wars. Not writers who state they've never watched it. We don't need deep fake in everything. New characters of standalone stories. Give us links via retcon if need be to legacy characters. So far they have failed miserably.

"I just love it because it's Star Wars." That's the mentality of a mindless consumer not anyone who's opinion is worth listening to. Kenobi broke me, it was so poorly written. I haven't watched anything from Disney since. I keep hearing that Andor is great, but I haven't gotten around to watching that one. I don't want to pay for a Disney+ subscription to watch it and I don't want to pay $40 for the Blu-Ray disc set without knowing if I'm going to like it or not.

@@GQJedi I think even if everyone was going on and on about how great it was, I wouldn't have much interest in watching it. All of the Jedi/Force stuff has always been the least interesting aspect of Star Wars for me. So, if I see too many robes and lightsabers, then I check out. lol What drew me into Star Wars in the first place, back in the 70s/80s, was the cool retro-futuristic WW2 feel of the Empire vs. Rebellion battle scenes. Once they got out of that era, I found myself struggling to maintain interest.

Great video GQ. Agree completely it shouldn’t matter what color, ethnicity or sexuality of the character they still need to be compelling and written well. The other part that hurts these shows is the constant attacking and mocking of the fan base. Lucasfilm needs to clean house on their PR department and start treating their customers with respect.

I watched about 20 minutes of the Accolade and I couldn't watch anymore. Rogue one was great and like you said the first season of Mandalorian and some of season 2 was great. Ador was alright. Disney sucks.

Amen GQ couldnt agree more! I dumped my Disney + subscription about a year ago and couldnt care less about any Star Wars show they put out. So sad but I get enough enjoyment out of my vintage Kenner collecting! I still cant find a Stan Solo Vader with removable helmet. I got both Luke Jedi training figures on card though, those were easy to pick up. Thanks for being real and making good content, way better than Disney! 😆

I agree with what another posted comment said: Star Wars (for me), ended in 1983. I have not and will never involve myself with the prequels, tv shows, or any of the other "Star Wars" offerings, especially since Disney took over the reins. Star Wars was Lucas's property to do with what he wanted, but I will have no part of any of it, except for the 1977-1983 true legacy.

The director forced the staff to watch Fight Club before filming. After the opening fight scene. In the Jedi Temple the phrase “your eyes deceives you” might be what the acolyte is. Just like the end of Fight Club or the 6th sense. The twist is that there is no twins. The witches uses the force in a way the Jedi deem blasphemy.

GQ Jedi... this was a sincere and respectfully made video by one of the biggest fans that I know and I think that you are completely right. I don't go down the woke rabbit hole either but what Disney is doing to this franchise is a travesty. You said it best when you stated that it has nothing to do with the gender or sexuality of the character, its just that the characters are written terribly. Great discussion here today.

The sad thing is I can only Like this video once! :-( Preach Brother! I gave up after Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi. The Star Wars I knew as a little boy is sadly gone 😢 Seeing the original theatrical Star Wars movie in the theatre is one of my earliest childhood memories. It wasn't a movie it was a magic show! It truly changed my life as a child! Every year when I was little I would get Star Wars toys for Christmas. And to this day I still get Star Wars stuff for Christmas. For me my fandom for Star Wars is the original Theatrical trilogy, the Expanded Universe, The Ewok movies, Rogue One and the first two seasons of the Mandalorian. Almost everything that is Disney Star Wars straight up run over roadside trash that some homeless guy pissed and crapped on! Really luv your channel and videos GQ! Keep up the outstanding work!

I won’t touch anything outside of the OT (and the 1978 Holiday Special). Modern SW is crap. DISNEY can give me the original theatrical cuts of the OT, and a 4K release for 1954’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea on disc, and f**k off. I don’t follow politics - never have - it bores me. I don’t care for the brainwashing / propaganda that’s built into modern SW content. I’ve never seen any of the DISNEY SW television shows. I’ve seen enough on RU-vid to know sh*t when I see it.

Totally agree with what you are saying and the sad fact is it's not just Disney acting like this. The world has gone so woke they've misspelled it with a 'J' (Joke). Like you said they don't have to push the white straight male down to bring up all the other groups. And to be honest someone's sexual preference should never be a topic that's a private mater for the individual and as for ethnicity again it should come back to the best person for the job the same in every walk of life. The normal person on the street doesn't give a crap about this, but it gets rammed down your throats at every opportunity and all this does is cause conflict and resentment on both sides. When will the world wake up and stop with all this media hype and bullshit.

The demographic of actors doesn't matter when the writing is poor. I agree, Disney doesn't have a story to tell, so we will never get anything close to George Lucas' Star Wars. I simply watch the new Disney series, now, to see some new ships or droids. There isn't much else to enjoy or celebrate, I'm afraid (IMO of course). Disney would do better coming up with something new.

It's fairly obvious when you look at each retro collection release. My concern is the original trilogy didn't have that many women and people of color in it and if each release requires diversity we are screwed.

Everyone who dislikes what Disney has done to Star Wars still tends to appreciate Rogue One. I've disliked what Disney has done since the Force Awakens, which I saw on opening night during an 18 hour marathon. I was completely bored by that movie but Rogue One which came next was enjoyable. This is purely anecdotal but everyone I know that actually likes the sequel trilogy has disliked Rogue One. Rogue One still felt like Star Wars and almost nothing else they've made since in my opinion has.

Ha, dude, you think these screen works from disney are trash? Have you read the post disney novels? Duuuude! I used to get every star wars novel and read them. Back then they were all good novels with any "bad" novels used to be bad because they would be like a saturday morning cartoon. Now post disney novels read like gay porn! And now they are bad because they are poor, terrible stories, improper characterzations of our heroes, and just gay porn with star wars characters! It completely stopped me from buying any post disney novels!

I completely see your points I totally agree with you, anyone can see it or enjoy whatever they like. I take all peoples opinions and respect them. I have noticed though that many fans predominantly the younger crowd and older fans that do enjoy the new material act like a cult if you express any criticism towards the new shows. For me I’m out on Disney for the most part. 1977-1985 is the Star Wars I love. I tolerate & like some of the new material afterwards, but it’s inherently gone in very different directions and the vision is vastly different now. This includes the prequels etc. For me Star Wars & Empire Strikes Back set the tone of Star Wars. ROTJ is when you could see the cracks. Although I love ROTJ. As for Acolyte, I won’t watch that crap. You have to be dumb to like this stuff or have no life. lol. Agree with a million times over. ❤❤❤⚡️🏆🔥☝️🤩🍾🎊😇

At least George tried to get rid of all copies of Star Wars Holiday Special because it was Garbage but I would rather watch that than some of the Disney Rubbish thats come out over the last decade. I really appreciate you putting this out. This is something that absolutely needs to be said and echoed across the Star Wars fan base if we ever want even the slightest hope of a corrective path back towards great Star Wars content. Very well said and I agree, George should have never sold Star Wars to Disney and trusted them and Kennedy with his life's work. I believe he himself has also come to realize this by listening to his vocal tones and watching his body language in recent interviews. The destruction of Star Wars must stop and we as Star Wars fans who just want content that can live up to the likeness of the original and prequel trilogies as well as Rogue One, must have our voices heard. I, too, wonder what would have happened if George had retained either ownership or control of the IP. I do not think George would have put it to bed. George had a bad habit of continually monkeying with each of the movies, especially New Hope. Every release from theatrical to re-release to VHS to DVD, etc. is a new movie in some form, be it a small tweak or a re-cut scene. George basically telegraphed to the world that it is OK to change his movies or the IP in any way anyone sees fit as he, himself, had little respect for the originally released versions. When George sold the IP, he was deep into changing the IP into something which appealed mainly to kids. I don't think this was a terrible strategy for the longevity of the IP, but it also was a signal to Disney to do whatever they thought would be most profitable, not what would make great entertainment. Wouldn't it have been great if Disney had built Luke's Tatooine homestead instead of the monstrosity they call a Star Wars themed area at Disney World?

After the first episode of the Acolyte, I was disappointed at how they treated the fist scene with Trinity, but hoped they could recover later. The second episode was cringe and the dialogue was bad. I'm not really sure you can say that George was all about inclusivity and diversity. Sure, there are all kinds of alien species throughout the films, but if you look at actual casting, it tells a different story. Counting from memory, I think there is a grand total of THREE female characters with speaking parts in the OT. One of those has one line ("stand by ion control... fire"), the second has one scene (Mon Mothma), and then there's Leia. As for racial diversity, there's Lando, and a couple of rebel pilots in ROTJ who are on screen just long enough to die (and yes technically James Earl Jones as Vader's voice but he's not seen on-screen). And let's not forget the racial stereotype accent of the Nemoidians. I do agree that Andor was beautifully shot and produced but didn't feel like Star Wars (IMHO if you want to be the first to drop the F-bomb in SW maybe you don't understand SW). I liked Kenobi, but it could have benefitted from some editing/tightening. BoBF was a disaster. Ahsoka was disappointing. I really enjoy your channel, but I think your message in this video got a little muddled along the way. I get the valid complaints about weak writing, but when you start talking about "no white males in the cast" you start sounding more like some of the other fanboys I don't care for. Just my $.02 worth.

I've come to realize that all Star Wars (ie: modern) wasn't made for me, that said, I do try to enjoy the content as best as I can, even if I don't love it. I'm always hopeful with each new project that it will imbue the spirit of George Lucas Star Wars and that the character development and storylines will be on par with the originals. But I also try to keep my expectations low, so as not to be disappointed. I might get blasted for this but having watched the first two episodes of The Acolyte, keeping in mind my low expectations, I didn't hate them. I did find some level of entertainment, even if it didn't entirely seem to fit my view of what Star Wars content should be. So I'll definitely be watching the rest of the season. And yes, I can totally see the comparison to CW content. 😂 But I think before I pass judgment on the show in full, I'll let the entire serious play out and see where it goes and if I enjoy the characters more by the end of the season & if they provide a plot that surprises me and maybe ties into some things we see in later content. There's always so much negativity that I'm trying to keep an open mind and keep it positive, but Disney sure doesn't make it easy for us. That doesn't mean that I'm not hopeful that in the future they'll get it figured out. Thanks for sharing your views and your honest opinions GQ. They managed to capture the essence of SW in Rogue One just fine. Even if you stripped away the elements or the Empire in that film, it would still FEEL like SW because they got the tone right among many other things. It’s possible for these shows to feel like SW if the tone was right and the writing wasn’t so shitty. Jon and Dave managed to touch on this in Mando. It can be done. My point is still valid.

I am gay and a lifelong Star Wars fan. While it might be cool to have a gay character in Star Wars, being gay within that universe wouldn’t even matter much when there are droids, creatures, aliens, spaceships. Identity would not be an issue to anyone. But what I can’t stand is how we end up getting so much hate every time the company makes a bad show. What in the world does that have to do with us? Why are rainbow logos constantly used in thumbnails. LGBT people inevitably get the hate runoff, and companies capitalize off us for profit under the guise of diversity. Leslye Headland does NOT define a whole community. No one person does. Regardless, a “mob of people” says woke, and the LGBT and black communities somehow also get a finger pointed their way. It’s happening constantly. Nothing appealed to me about Acolyte. It simply wasn’t good. Of course inclusion and acceptance are important to me, but way more so in the real world. That isn’t happening when people seem to blame our existence more than the company’s bad content.

Great video. I will not watch one second of the Acolyte. Kenobi was garbage, Book of Boba Fett was garbage. Ahsoka has too many force users. My annual disney + subscription expires in November and i will not renew. Been let down too many times.

Think of it this way "NOONE" gets to loose a corporation billions of dollars and keep their jobs, and no commercial enterprise would keep producing products they know nobody wants. They are being paid by someone else to make this trash. SO collectively people need to stop being afraid and keep calling this out.

@@GQJedi investors need to vote the board out, they are capitulating to Vanguard and Blackrock with the whole DEI agenda under threat of loss of bank and venture capital. But this is destroying the company's profitability and their share value. Consumers can hurry this process along by continuing to not pay for the product and to keep calling it out for the junk that it is
