Stardew Valley is an open-ended country life RPG. That may sound boring but it is quite the opposite. We have inherited our grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley and it's up to us to make something of ourselves! We'll take on tasks such as farming(of course!), fishing, cooking, exploring, and meeting the other residents of Stardew Valley along the way.
Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won’t be easy. Ever since Joja Corporation came to town, the old ways of life have all but disappeared. The community center, once the town’s most vibrant hub of activity, now lies in shambles. But the valley seems full of opportunity. With a little dedication, you might just be the one to restore Stardew Valley to greatness.

When I began my beach farm I went straight to the tillable area covered with logs, and just worked around them until I had the steel axe needed to clear the area. For me that was mentally simpler than clearing a big gardening area elsewhere and then moving my location. One beloved strategy of mine the first summer/fall is to clear/till a large area (200-400 spaces) that I don't intend to water, and just allow rainfall to grow crops of wheat. Then I make lots of money from beer, so investing heavily into tappers on oak trees is important to me.

I'm almost done with all achievements and my first playthrough and i'm only now learning that plants won't die if you don't water them for 1-3 days. It just seemed so logical, i assumed this is how it works. Now i feel conflicted, since i may want to abuse the rain strat on short-time crops in case of new playthroughs, but this is literally wrong in my head...

@@selensewar The thing I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around is the idea that animals won't die if you neglect to feed them. They get grumpy, and stop producing resources, and may even lose friendship, but they never die. I'm beginning to lean into this somewhat as I explore Ginger Island. Of course, I do have autofeeders and autograbbers, so it isn't all bad. But I feel so guilty not petting them every day!

@@selensewar Yeah! Eric Barone specifically didn't want death to be any part of the farm experience, other than seasonal changeover for plants. No farm animals ever die in this game. Even when you collect rabbits' feet, somehow they just magically grow back every day. :D

For the energy bit, if you level any skill up during the day your energy will be full no matter the time you go to bed but it doesn’t work on level 5 and 10 when you pick a profession. Speed runners use it to run the mines and fish till 2am

I am so glad that you are back!! I love watching your content and was really missing it. I am in summer year 3 on the beach farm and I absolutely love it! It is my favorite farm so far out of the bunch. Oh and for the energy, if you level up a skill overnight, you always wake up with 100% energy, no matter how little energy you had or how late you go to bed.

If you have any tips for the beach farm I'd love to hear them! I made it to summer year 2 on my casual playthrough before recording this so I have some ideas in mind but not fully fleshed out yet.

FOXY! welcome back to Stardew! I hope you have a lot of fun with this playthrough and get to see all the new endgame stuff. Take it slow and enjoy it, your content is fantastic so I'm sure all of us are going to enjoy the ride. The game has changed a lot as far as min-maxing but your right: playing out your old guide will work up till sprinklers, and it is the Iron axe for the sprinkler spot but balancing the upgrades with the watering can will be tricky. The axe upgrade is probably essential anyway because of the hardwood requirement for "endgame". On the topic of "Endgame" it completely changes how you manage winter, so you should route to finish the CC as soon as you get the winter forage bundle done; The forage bundle is going to be your main bottle-neck so long as you didn't remix your bundles. on the topic of fishing, the whole area is mapped out as 1x1 tiles, so the only way you can cheese fishing is on corners with an angle cast; there is no "magic" spot sadly. Most people will stay at the ocean till they have enough cash to buy a fiberglass rod as trying for catfish on day 3 is a real nightmare without it. Since the catfish are so much more valuable most of day 2 is spent with short casts on bubbles in the hope of getting fishing 5 (and the boosted fish prices). It might be fun to lean into cauliflower, Melon and pumpkin for the mega crops since you wont be spacing anything out for sprinklers. Otherwise enjoy the early game fishing and mines :D

And really, that no losing health thing is only relevant in the early game, if you get used to playing with all or most of your skills leveled up it is easy to forget the days when the game was more forgiving. 😁

I played this game when it first came out but haven't played in years. My niece just got me back into it and I was having such a hard time trying to keep up with your last guide. I am so happy to see a more relaxed but still efficient style that is also on current patch. I had just given up on the constant restarts for perfection and was looking for a more casual guide when I saw that this one was also available! It is fun to explore what works with different conditions. Nice video, I like your style. You mentioned getting perfects for more Fishing xp. The training rod is a cheap way to make perfects much easier and boost Fishing level early.

Yes that is true! I've wondered how good of an idea that is. Easier to get perfects but you can't get better than regular quality fish. Still probably good for the first day anyway when you're barely able to get past that anyway.

Im really new to stardew valley, only started playing last month and ive tried out early game in a few of the farms and somehow, the beach farm has been my most profitable one so far

Fun! I love the beach farm because I've never been a mega-farmer mono-cropper and rely on animals and upgraded artisan goods like jam and beer and cheese and mayo. I'm not exactly a minmaxer but I'm in my second winter on my (relaxed play) beach farm with a comfortable 5 million and just about everything unlocked and upgraded. The extras you can access at Ginger Island are very freeing once you get there.

Haha don’t worry selensewar you’ll get there! Yeah for one thing Marialla knew to put lots of tappers on oak trees to make kegs and stuff like that. Also still knowing which crops are the most profitable and stuff really helps.

@@selensewar :D Oh definitely! You have to realize I'm not a new player. I'm the type of tryhard that reads the wiki cover to cover, makes pages and pages of notes that I keep in a personal guide at my desk, and frankly I have thousands of hours into the game. When I said 2nd winter I only meant of this particular playthrough on beach farm, not the game in general. But I still suck at combat, and early fishing. And I can't compete with minmax guides that expect you to do crazy glitches and exact planting guides etc. I don't do that, and neither does Foxy. I get flustered and make mistakes, and so does she sometimes, which is what makes her so relatable and such a good guide. But with a few good strategies you'll get there too, for sure! It's a really fun and worthwhile game. I hope to see you around!

@@Marialla. i got that you're not a new player, yes, it's just... I have two sheds full of kegs, greenhouse full of ancient fruit and ginger island full of pineapples/startruit, and i've just started making 500k-1kk on a regular basis on my year 4. I haven't tried playing from the start for the 2nd time yet, maybe i'll indeed be able to make 5kk at the end of my 2nd year with everything upgraded? We'll see. I thought of more restrictive, role-playing playthroughs though, because simply starting over with everything allowed would become boring too soon.

@@selensewar I agree that setting personal limits is what makes a new playthrough fun, once you have the basics down. I don't always play all the way through, either. Sometimes I just enjoy seeing how long it takes me to lean hard into one particular skill, such as how fast can I hit fishing level 10 if I do nothing else, and what profits can I make that way, or how fast can I hit the bottom of the mine if I do nothing else. I always find those "what-if" type of plays do a lot to broaden my skills and perspective.

Great video! I feel like the primary reason to play on the beach farm is to do fish stuff. Obviously crab pots/fish ponds aren't great for money, but I still think it would be fun to see an optimized fishing focused start for the beach.

Very true! I do think crab pots are awesome for getting/saving on coal since you can either get coal or refined quartz from the recycling machines so that's definitely a plan. I have experimented with fish ponds and they're kind of fun, but I'm not sure they're worth the space and cost. What I'm thinking I might do is switch specs late into the game to where I don't have to put bait in crab pots and go pot crazy. We'll see! :3

@@FoxyFernGaming yeah, one of the nice things about ponds is that you don't need to water them. You can essentially convert stone/wood/algae/seaweed into something like a sprinkler covered crop. Unfortunately they are quite expensive and don't provide that much value. When you run out of sprinklerable land it may be worth it, especially if you can get lava eels, but I moreso meant an optimized fishing only run (not try to work fishing in to be optimal).

Oh yeah for sure. At one point I had started making rules for a fishing challenge where ponds would actually be a big part of it. You do need them if you’re striving to be a completionist of course, since roe and caviar are required items.

@@FoxyFernGaming I only recently learned you can use a fish pond to refill your watering can, so maybe others don't know that tip yet? It could be useful to set fish ponds strategically near your crop area if you intend to water it by can. Save you buying a well. Also, fish ponds count as a water source for growing rice.

Okay, so first let me say I just so happened to stumble across this video. So I'm not a long term watcher or anything. This isn't meant as being disrespectful, I just find it interesting how your world starts off after the main menu and that you find literally everything you'd need on the 1st day. An artifact to donate, loads of spring onions (which give plenty of foraging experience to level up quicker) on top of all four main foragables for the spring bundle. You said you weren't super lucky, but I beg to differ. That said, efficiency certainly could've been better. But that's always an issue so nothing to really dwell on.

If you’re implying that I fished for this game you’d be mistaken. It really was just a matter of luck. Yeah the artifact was lucky - but I usually find an artifact about 4/5 times on the first game of any day so it’s not THAT abnormal. The spring onions were lucky, sure, but also not that uncommon. The 4 different forageables, well, that literally doesn’t even matter until day 5 when you can open the community center so I don’t know why you care about that. Ultimately, this isn’t going to be a great minmax anyway because it’s on the BEACH farm. Also I mess up a bunch and don’t redo things usually so it’s really not that unobtainable.

My video starts off after the main menu as I don’t want to bore people with that part of the game. If someone actually IS fishing for a good save that wouldn’t matter anyway. You can totally just copy the save and go through the menu again so it is incorrect to assume that is proof the person hasn’t fished.

You can definitely hide that you fished for the seed by setting it beforehand and still starting on the setup menu. It's just lucky all what you found. Of course if you wanted to do better, you could get events like crop fairy within the first week if you really wanted to get the best start for min/maxing. Only reason I brought it up was the pathing you had throughout the video on top of stating you don't fish for seeds during it. There's really no reason to bring that up imo. But that's also why I said you were extremely lucky too. Because while I may have doubts, I don't go either way on if you did or didn't. Just that it's plausible. *shrugs*

I think that’s a good idea! It’s an opportunity to take advantage of animals. I’ve never had too many in the past since they’re expensive and require lots of time with petting/milking etc. but truffle oil sells for an ungodly amount with the artisan profession.

@@FoxyFernGaming definitely a ton of money, but the gameplay might be less than fun. Picking up truffles and stuffing them into oil makers all day might make me hate a great game

I really want to try the beach farm but I’m trying a min Max for the first time and it seems harrowing without the sprinklers. Maybe after I get the reg map right I can try 😄

I haven't played 1.5 yet but is rice not an option on the beach farm? With so much coast if it irrigates that is super easy farming that doesn't require watering. Sure unmilled rice doesn't sell for as much without a mill but the energy you save on watering that you can instead use to fish and mine more than makes up for it and if yoy get some lucky cloth from the traveling merchant you can build a mill and make a ton of money off the rice than.

I definitely plant any rice I find but it’s certainly not worth buying from Pierre. There’s only like one tile along the coast it will actually irrigate though anyway since you can’t till right next to the water.

You get full energy when you level up any skill. That means it’s easier to get early in the game when levels are fast. Otherwise, if you don’t level up, you’ll have low energy as normal.
