Sailing from the Bahamas across the Gulf Stream in the beautiful blue waters westward to Florida. Plenty of wind, waves and a weather window just big enough to shoot across at over eight knots. Beautiful ocean views from the deck and cockpit of a sailboat cranking through the waves. Sailing a Catalina 42 - and enjoying the memories and experiences of an epic adventure.

Beautifully balanced, zooming at 8kts and below the magical ~23 degree heel - well done and perfect amount of canvass up to get her moving like that and so 'in the groove'. it was awesome to see you get the old gal going and it looked like you had that magical feeling of the boat being pulled forward - brilliant to see and a tribute to your skills!

You give me more credit than I deserve, Luke - but I'll take it. Yes, the grey lady was kickin' it through six footers and only smirked at a few eights. Nice to hear from you and I want you to share your adventures with all of us when you feel like it. Any pictures will be great, Bud. Thanks again for leading the Crew base for the southern hemisphere.

I'm glad you like this journey Andre - I really appreciate you checking in along the way. Seriously, I'm not big time on RU-vid, so comments aren't feeding the algorithm around here 😊 And I'm grateful for the your support.

Yeah, thank you for remembering me - that was in Titusville - and you had a bad breakup story . . . Worst ever, actually. To travel aaaaallll the way to the U.S. to have your heart broken. Wow. Anyway, you were already bouncing back and I imagine you are doing great. Thanks for jumping aboard from Denmark and expanding our Crew. Stay well.

Hey Dennis! You make it looks so easy. I’ve been in and out of sailing for years and still think there’s so much to learn and try to remember. Did you ever think you just wouldn’t be able to accomplish what you’ve done? 😐 I especially liked your videos of the Chesapeake. That’s my next sailing ground (I think). Then maybe Florida to Biminis, if I dare. Sue
@dennismckee7934
@dennismckee7934 3 месяца назад
Hey, Sue - There are always small challenges that pass: financial, weather, maintenance, etc. Those pass. Every day, your skills will grow - so that the hindrances will not be you . . . Never will you feel you know all that is necessary - but taking each day as it comes, eating the elephant one bite at a time, makes a long journey more easy to imagine. Finally, get a great companion or take out a boat on your own. Either way, your first step will have been taken - and the first step is the toughest. I hope this helps - if I can do this, you can - trust me on that one. On the job training is typical in all sorts of boating. When you hit the Chesapeake and want a protected and longer-term anchorage, Deltaville Virginia is tough to beat. Good luck and kick a bit of caution to the wind. 😊

One more thing - order a regional sailing book - like Waterway Guide to the Chesapeake Bay - if you haven't already. Places to visit, distances between ports, fuel stops, and watering holes will all be in there. Planning a trip is easier with some of the mystery removed. My favorite app is Predict Wind for betting on conditions - not perfect but a necessity. Let me know if you need more info. The adventure is worth navigating all the uncertainties.

Excellent! Thanks so much. I've been studying the Bay (and Florida) for months now, while traveling around. I have the WWG and have studied things like PredictWind. Very anxious to get started! I should be back in the States by September. I will *not* be on a 42 foot boat though. 😀😋

Fair question, Andrew. I am safe and on high ground. I have a few items to juggle before I make more videos - but I'm getting there. Kraken consume so many mariners, it was a good guess 😅

Another great episode! Those waves were pretty big! You were really leaning. I'm sure that's not the right word but I'm not a sailor so ... 😂 And OMG, I hope you used a little Poo Pourri after that long bathroom break! 🤭 It was nice to see our hometown Grand Haven Pier! 🩷🌞 Carry on! ⛵

Yep - GH is on the back of my boat. Those piers are always a nice site - except when the lighthouse is being beaten in winter by 15 footers. And the head . . . It recovered. 😂
