Another fine video John. Can't wait till next season. Santa was kind to me and I was surprised with a stand up paddle board built for fishing. I'll see you out there in the spring. Tight Lines
i had never had much luck with poppers. Replicated John's technique off Saltaire, NY dock at dusk on 27 May and got 5 blues in short order. Keeping the line in the fingers above the reel to avoid the looping matters. I stopped doing that and got tangles.
Very nice video John, I plan on getting similar equipment that you use and learn as much as I can in this off season. I just got my 9 FT Penn Prevail, tactical anglers clips, barrel swivels, and both of your books. I plan on using 30lb spider wire but I think I'm going to opt for 50lb mono for leader. Should I use a lower test for mono as leader? Can't wait until the weather get's nicer to start practicing what I'm learning.
Mr Skinner you are the man! Do you have any videos on setting up jigs, plugs, poppers? As well what size swivels, snaps do you use? One more thing do use bait at all ...you know clams, bunker, squid or your strictly lure fishing?
Hey john I just finished your book season on the edge it was very good and I'm probably getting fishing the bucktail book soon anyways do you have a line up of videos over the winter or you just waiting for spring to start uploading again becuse in the winter I want to catch fish but there is no fish to go fishing for so I watch your videos
hi John, I'm sorry I ask so many questions but, I can never seem to get that perfect zig zag walk the dog motion you do so easily, I was wondering if you would do a demonstration or explain it a little more
Thanks John. You rock. Love the Florida videos. I know you concentrate on the eastern LI Sound, but do you think similar fish can be caught in similar conditions mid north shore, like the Sunken Meadow area and points a little west? I live in Westchester and really just started surf fishing this year and almost exclusively at Jones WE2. Trying to get techniques down rather than chase all the spots. Fall run schoolies were fun but kind of a no brainer when they were biting.
Thanks so much John. Tons of fun to watch you explore new territory and problem solve. You are definitely an inspiration and a boon to the art and industry of fishing.
hey John, watch all your video great work. i wanted to ask why do you cut off a foot on a 10' rod blank rather than just getting a 9'. Again great videos
John, are you familiar with Jersey locations? I'll be in brigantine beach in the beginning of june and was curious if I can expect stripers around that time of year and what sorts of lores/baits they'd be hitting. Any info would be appreciated.
Stephen Barrett There should still be some good fishing in Jersey at that time. Pencil poppers dusk and dawn might be your best bet, but it's always a good idea to check with the local tackle shops.
When you use Floro it realy inhibits a top water baits movement, action, and overall potential. So I'm going to have to disagree with him on this one, and use a mono leader. Only time I use a floro leader is on something like a bucktail. Still a great video from a great channel keep up the good work!
1973Saved I mean it's common sense where I fish. It all depends on water clarity/conditions. Where I fish the fish are so finiky they get line shy very easily.
Do you like a particular tide when fishing for Stripers? Do you try to fish the gullies or slough behind the sandbar which in Delaware may be a 30 to 40 yd cast. I caught a 39 inch /19.2 lb striper on a Bunker Head at PBI in Lewes Delaware last May 2013 (bay side). But would love to catch one on a pencil lure. Really liked your video. I'm retired and try to fish with my son Steve, when he has time off. In my 20's I fished the surf at Cape May, NJ. RTR
Thanks, going to try to work on plugs in Spring & early Fall again. I may even try making poppers for a hobby, got a book from Barnes & Noble to read up. ordering a couple Gibbs and a copy of your book.
