i think people get "surprised" when you dislike stuff because you are always so positive and nice about everything. even when you dislike it as in this video, you are really careful to say it's just a preference and it doesn't mean such and such is BAD. but it was interesting to see you try to rescue a piece you really weren't fond of!

Its the stripes being black and so bold 😭 I feel like if they were a thinner dark blue stripe it would look way better

Oh my god. I have this dress. This was my first Lolita dress ever. I bought it at Otakon when I was 14 or 15 and felt almost instant regret. Bless you for trying to do it justice.

I've actually have absolutely been in love with this dress for a while! I can see exactly how to style it in my head! I'd pull out more of the mints and the pinks, for sure, and add in the accessories in red, blue, pink, and mint. I love it! Them again, I have a passion for styling hard-to-style dresses. That thing is right up my alley!

honestly with such a messy high-contrast print styling it with plain textureless pieces feels way way off. You need to have stripes on stripes or a different pattern type on each piece and make it look like a 90s scrapbook nightmare! I also think if you wanted to lessen the impact of those stripes you need to be all black and white and let the colors in the print stand by themselves. When you pair the soft blue or light pink with it it doesnt really coordinate with the exact same colors in the print. your eye doesnt want to traverse the stripes to get to the matching colors to harmonize them, it wants to either chill out just looking at the gentler color block OR go to the chaotic pattern, so it kind of looks like two different outfits, or like one cohesive outfit with the way different dress. I think I would pair this dress with a white apron, polkadot blouse, checkerboard tights, and maybe a hat that has a high-constrast pattern of some kind?

I totally see your issues with it, but I think both coords came out super cute. My favorite part of lolita is that even though something isn't my style, I can still can find things to like in other styles. That's why I love looking at how other people coord things. I think the lighter tights looked better than the brighter ones. Despite you not liking it, you still managed to put together some great coords with it :D

The print is not cute but I do think you pulled it off with the skirt version very well! Maybe like a lean into the obnoxious ness in a mime look would work for this print? Like just black and white and a very cheesy beret? Hope Olivia’s balance improves lol

I think as an artist who knows about color theory this dress could be fixed or at least made much much better if the stripes were just a very very pastel pink or yellow. and thicker. bigger blocks of color might help reduce the contrast which is the main cause of the eyestrain here. our eyes are naturally drawn to bright colors and high contrast, which is why it's usually in the part of a design or illustration that's supposed to be the MAIN FOCUS. in this case, it should be the print. But instead, the entire dress is extremely high contrast black and white thin stripes, making it distracting/confusing to look at and difficult to figure out where exactly your eyes are supposed to land first. Design 101!

I love this dress for the exact same reason that Lor hates it. I feel like if I wanted to style this, I'd go for a old school/punky look.

I loved the second look but you should have also done a more black version as a third opinion and switching tights in the first on would have been such an improvement.

I have a black and white striped dress but it's gothic and the print is black and white (it's Victorian Gothic by Duchess Milianda for anyone wondering) so I know it can work I agree that this dress however is difficult to look at in a optical illusion kind of way 😅. I'm sure it can be styled really cute and someone has I'm sure but man.

Yeah the black lines are so hard and going in so many different directions, it looks like when they used to paint WWI battleships in dazzle camouflage to hide which direction they were moving in… tactical lolita

Recently I had to go to a Cardiologist because of my heart causing me problems to the point where I have had to stop doing what I loved creating Lolita inspired dresses that has made people talk about them whether it be in a good way or a bad way because of the fact that my heart at times so slow where I feel like it's not even there or when it completely stops for a few minutes and then kick back in causing me to have breathing problems and severe chest pain but if it wasn't for your videos that make me smile because they give me something to look forward to on those days when my heart is giving me severe pain I tend to watch a lot of the old ones along with the new ones and I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart your if it wasn't for your videos helps me on those days when I'm at my worst I don't know where I would be so I wanted to say thank you and I am looking forward to seeing what you do next and it was a real treat getting to meet one of my favorite RU-vidrs at toronto's, Comic-Con hearing you say that you loved the coordination of my Lolita inspired overall dress it made my day hearing that you loved it and it gives me something to tell people that I got to meet one of my favorite content creators in the Lolita community

I agree with you Lor, about the daisy lace not making sense and the print being awkward. I guess I don't HATE the dress, but it's definitely not for me. If I saw someone wearing it I wouldn't envy them like I do with a lot of other coords.

I feel like this dress would work a lot better in a punk Lolita style. The font and the graphics give me that vibe.

W- Why is the lace flowery when the design is not flowery or nature themed at all?? And that chest area is so disatracting, I can't tell if the stripes are different in just that area or the lace makes it look that way, either way it's an eyesore. And that soft baby pink colour in the small bows and ribbon over the top of the chest area doesn't fit at all with the rest of the colours in the dress. Only way I could see this dress slightly working is if all the accessories and other parts are monochrome.

Lmao I've always thought that print was gauche but after seeing you coord it - idk, it really seems to suit you! Maybe it's because i was primarily bittersweet as a babylita, but I think the black balances out automatically with your hair & brings focus to the vibrant pastels. I like the colors of the pieces you used, just felt I would lean more sweet with the details if I personally were to style it. I would definitely pair this with red or pastels, especially that teal-90s "mint" -I have a blouse that I dyed that color specifically to match the pastel teal in my Girly Gang jsk from Angelic Forest. I feel like there are people in my comm who would style this in a kitschy way & have the range to pull it off - @faeryndipity comes to mind

The main Belladonna stock photo dressform that they used for years is missing a piece and they have it taped and it constantly goes crooked when I photograph things for them. I feel that struggle in my bones.

I feel like the striped design could technically work if it wasn't in PURE BLACK AND WHITE like if it was a pastel version of one of the balloon colors. It would make it look more cohesive and less jarring

i wonder about wearing it skirt-style with a black blouse, black shoes, and pastel wig in one of the colors of the print? as for tights, they could probably be pastel as well, or white or sheer... it's not quite sweet style, and admittedly i'm not very good at visualizing things, but it could be an interesting way to style it if anybody else wants to try it! :D these stripes are like dazzle camouflage to me it's so much lol

It’s fine to not like things. I personally like a very specific subtypes of Lolita and like very few designs/prints and wouldn’t want to wear other kinds. And that’s fine.

You could try a plain light pink/white cutsew with one of those ruffle necklines, a red (possibly heart-shaped) canotier OR a red bow barrette (in the back for the latter), some plain white tights/stockings, and a set of black shoes. The colors more up top help bring the view to the face, and the plain shirt and stockings help balance the pattern. The dress is very odd to be sure, but I'm a sucker for a wild pattern like that. It could really work for something more gothic but the example I gave was to keep it more on the "sweet" side of the "bittersweet" vibes of the print. Blah, if I sound like an amateur, don't mind me! I'm trying to hop into Lolita as a trans dude after years of admiring the style😅

I think it's a hallmark of a great stylist to put together something so cute despite hating a dress lolol. Both outfits were great! I really think this dress suffered from 'too much' syndrome. The designer maybe needed to look at it and remove 2 things before hitting go. The opacity on the stripes? The opacity on the hearts? maybe not any text on the hearts? No lace on the bodice? something.

12:00 the variety of pink only works because the dress is too much, the tights are loud, but there’s JUST enough separation plus the pull of other colors and shades WORKS so it’s cute but the WHOLE outfit is loud. also side note; the second I saw the dress I had to look away because it HURTS my eyes

The print looks tacky in a non-endearing way imo, though I do like the visual effect of the print 'snowing' upwards. I think someone could make it work, that's the fun part I suppose.

I think if she'd put the white tights n mint shoes with everything else in the first coord it would've looked better. Lor's style is kinda matchy, but that doesn't really work with a print so chaotic. Better to match each accessory to one part of the dress than to try and match multiple pieces to a few parts, it looks unbalanced.

It sort of looks like the top of the dress and the skirt look like they don't belong to the same piece. Also I do take Melatonin and I am not awake long enough to to anything questionable XD
