The fact Caroline as his own mother didn't even stand up to comfort her own son who broke down and just sitting there looking sad really shows you how awful she is. Even Connor as his half brother stood up and comfort him.
@@VeniVidiVicous Also, back in Season One, on Shiv's wedding, she had an audicity to say "This isn't about you!" In her own daughter's wedding day! No wonder Shiv is always feeling isolated through her entire life.
@@margarethmichelina5146 It was saying she'd have a heart to heart with Kendall the next morning and then no showing that made me think Logan was the better parent of the two.
@@VeniVidiVicous As much as ignorant and abusive Logan is, I noticed that Logan is always nicer to Shiv as probably because Shiv is the only daughter and the youngest Roy. You can see that Shiv is always respecting Logan and not always agree for Kendall for always throw him down as CEO. Even she looks disgusted to see Kendall put his foot on Logan's former office table. But, deep down, she's always having her agenda and it always backfired.
@@mrsupremegascon I wouldn't say I didn't feel anything before the moment, because I sure did feel a lot, but yeah, there are those moments where the wave of emotions just comes crashing down on you, and seeing the casket is usually one of them...
Roman always being terrible to the other people by disrespecting them, rude and also talk whatever he wants. However, deep down, he's actually still suffering a Stockholm Syndrome as he is mostly always following Logan every time and always act arrogance whenever he's around Logan. He tried to act like Logan by firing Joy and Gerri and even mocking Willa as Connor's "wife", he's also thinking that having Mecken as the President would be a good idea as Logan chose Mecken to be the President candidate and he's thinking it would be honor him but it backfired to him as the public don't like Mecken because he is a fascist. Even worse, Mecken ignoring him later on Logan's house. This moment expose himself that he is indeed a spoiled daddy rich kid who is nothing without his daddy and also shows how weak he is as his other siblings are stronger. Also, Ewan's eulogy feels like a wake up call to him so he feels overwhelmed on bringing his eulogy later.
I've been there when I had to make the speech for my mother's funeral. I took it upon myself to be as aloof and well-spoken as I ought to. Everyone was already upset and breaking apart and as the youngest, I felt I had to keep it together. I only broke in private.
I wonder if Shiv being on the verge of breaking down with Roman at 2:18 was scripted or not. Looked and felt very genuine to me. Top notch acting by everyone.
Matsson and Mencken's reactions side by side are interesting. Lukas seems to get it, has a "Oh, he wasn't kidding on the mountain" kind of look while Mencken's your pushy hockey dad after you blow the big match, a restrained, disappointed "Well, okay then."
It's ironic that Roman pushed his siblings to choose Mecken but then in his dad's house on awakening, Mecken completely ignored him. Also, there's a theory that Roman might have a crush to Mecken hence why they were so close in Season 3. However, Mecken is married as you noticed he has a wife and a kid on his victory speech. Therefore, Roman's "simping" to Mecken for nothing.
Also don't forget that Lukas found his own dad after he unalived himself and is prone to bouts of melancholy. He understands the sadness and the emotional trauma because he's lived it.
At my grandfather's funeral, my youngest aunt had the same reaction as Roman. This scene absolutely shook me when I watched it. Because i saw this scene in real life. The death of the father is always difficult for the youngest sibling in the family.
Well Logan wouldn’t have cried in Roman’s situation. Roman generally tried to appear strong & tough & ruthless superficially but was always a weak person
@@kentknightofcaelin4537 it’s emotional authenticity, which I personally adore in Roman, but it was evident that people lookd down at him for this. Karl shook his head, Jeryd Mencken mocked him for it, Lukas Matsson looked amused and superioristic. So, weakness
No one ever thought Rome was strong. He clearly built a wall around his emotions, hence the constant rudeness, obscenities, jokes, put-downs, etc. It was always very obvious that he was a very sensitive man, we just barely got to see it before this scene (we saw a little of it after the hostage situation in Turkey, that was the first crack). Rome is the embodiment of "tough on the outside, soft on the inside"
@@kentknightofcaelin4537 exactly. people who are outwardly tough (don't let anything get to them, never allow themselves to be vulnerable) are actually weak (or rather, afraid, which is a form of weakness); now to allow yourself to be yourself, to be vulnerable and to show your emotions, THAT is strength. THAT is a superpower.
2:58 Even Mattson had more empathy for Roman than Karl. Despite their bad blood, he knows from experience how much losing a father can hurt 😢 Fuck Karl...
Just finished the show. Good gravy Roman was a little shit, but I felt for him in this scene. Finally all the bravado and snide behavior just crumbled. It seemed like every interaction with his dad made him revert back to a little kid throughout the series. And now he had to face the finality of the man's, whose approval he always wanted, death.
That shot of Gerri makes me madder that they didn't include the cut scene from the scripts where she comforts him. Not only was it true to character (the dialogue in the scene didnt feel OOC) but it would have provided so much more closure to their relationship.
I think if Roman wanted to he could. He just rarely acted like anyone he met was worthy of a serious eulogy, given the privileged status and everything.
This was better than any eulogy. What is there to say when your own father dies really? This is more meaningful and more impactful than words can ever do.
