Switching From SONY FULL FRAME To FUJI for Video & Photography? Sony A7III vs Fuji X-T4
So, a new camera system, does this mean I am switching from Sony to Fuji for video and photography? In this video we discuss why I purchased the fujifilm x-t4, the pros and cons of the fuji xt4 and sony a7iii and if I am switching to fuji from sony for landscape photography and video work. I have been using the Sony A7III for landscape photography and some video work, broll and vlogging to date, as well as the Canon M50, but this is now going to change.

Welcome to the Fuji gang!!! 🙌🙌 I bought the XT4 for the same reasons you got it. The 4K60 is what sold me. I’ve never had issues with the battery life. I just make sure I fully charge it before going out and I’ve never come close to draining it. It’s an excellent bang for the buck and I’m glad you’re enjoying the experience with it. The whole point is to have more fun with photo/videography. Anyways, I liked your video and subscribed to your channel!

Thanks a lot Darren! Very happy with the Fuji so far, the video from it is really impressive. I will check out your channel soon 😊. The battery isn’t bad, I think as I use the Fuji side by side with the Sony I notice the Fuji battery running out faster which is expected with that battery, an improvement from the XT3 but still not as lasting as the Sony. As you said, I definitely have fun using the Fuji more! Thanks again mate 😊

😂 glad it created some suspense. I do love both systems, and I think they compliment each other well. The point you make on keeping the mind sharp is so true! Absolutely, get that Fuji out for some landscape photography vlogs! I've actually been looking into updating my camera for filming recently (mine, also canon, has been utterly destroyed by rain haha) and in my research it seems that mirrorless is the way to go. I've noticed over the past year or so a lot of photographers switching to the Fuji mirrorless system and generally having great things to say about it. Glad you're enjoying the X-T4 so far. Great video, the scene changes really set the pace and make it interesting to watch!

Hi Courtney! Thanks so much for watching 😊 I definitely have to get the XT4 out for some landscape photography then, I am keen to give it a go! There have been a lot switching to Fuji right!? When I first used the Fuji I was intimidated but then addicted to it. Funny to hear about the canon issue … so similar, after the second time it died on me I had enough 😂. Glad you also liked the scene changes, trying to keep it fresh! First time I have tried that, and learnt a few things how to do it better next time. Thanks again, appreciate the support 😊

Wow! I was waiting on the edge of my seat for the big announcement! Ultimaley kit choice is about confidence - are you confident that it will do the job that you want it to. Clearly the Fuji does this for you with your VLOGs. I'm a bit lazy and use an Osmo Pocket, with the main draw being that it is light weight and childishly easy to use. Then again the production of your videos are just so much slicker than mine so I completely get why you would want something more competant. Yes, I'd like to see a JPG only challenge, and I'll add another twist to it for you - a maximum of 5 activations of the shutter only, and a time limit of 1 hour :) Stay safe and well sir

Thanks Lee, yeah you’re not wrong, the auto focus isn’t as good as canon or Sony, but also not as bad as people say, it largely depends on the lenses too, but there are work arounds, I have found ways to make sure it’s accurate for my style, the eye autofocus when in front of the camera is good, if I move away I usually turn off face tracking. @@RauriBarron I hear you sir I know all about work arounds when it comes to autofocus. I used Panasonic for a long time and we all know their autofocus is less then desirable. It’s to bad if they could figure out that auto focus system they would be up there with the big boys cuz they have excellent cameras just that damn autofocus lol! The last two occasions I’ve found myself upgrading my main camera I’ve been SUPER tempted by Fuji but both times it just didn’t quite make it for one reason or another. Good vid mate - love the location changes (wonder if you watched the same thing I did lately about this?) and the energy. Cross brand appeal genius at work here 😜 funnily enough the video I decided not to put out last week was all about the benefits of a crop sensor for landscape photography - there are really compelling reasons why it just works, so be interesting to see how you get on if you do a shoot with it. And it should go without saying that, of course, the thumbs up was tapped the second that the hammock made an appearance 😂👍🏻

Will you still put out the video on crop sensor benefits? What exact video are you referring to? Loving the prints man. Like yourself, I don't hate any camera brand (except Nikon). Definitely love the fujifilm tactile experience but I have a soft spot for Sony and Canon. Great vid mate, loving the relaxed feeling!

I feel you, this is a great camera and I really love how fuji renders the colors. I am thinking to buy one myself too, even if this will be an additional weight on my back (I use to film most of my hikes with a gopro :D)!

The XT4 has become a fave of many for video work and I know a few vloggers who shoot landscapes with the XT3 and use the XT4 for filming (Ian Worth) . I bought the original XT1 on its release when I started down the "going light" route but 6 months later I sold it as I couldnt get my head around the "worm effect" when processing in LR. The jpegs from the Fuji in fairness are superb and its a great camera to use but frustration got the better of me. I think Tom Heaton uses the XT4 for videoing and using as a lightweight travel camera. Lovely looking print Rauri. I have just sold all my gear apart from one camera one lens... not sure which way I am going to go next. I have kept the S5 for its video capabilities but miss canon for shooting landscapes - changing systems over the last few years has cost me 1000s so I need to make sure next purchase is the right one.. but it won't be an expensive system as I have done in the past. atb Al

Thanks a lot Alan! The XT4 definitely added a few features that set it apart from the XT3 making it a perfect vlog camera..well, nothing is perfect 😂. Hope you find your “forever” camera system. I feel I keep changing preferences depending on the time and stage of life or influence in photography. The S5 is a great video camera, so, wise choice, keep me updated on what you go ahead with, I’m always interested. I do find Sony is great for landscapes and can be more affordable than Canon. I must say, I do miss the tactile nature of Fujifilm - it’s the main reason I bought my X100 way back. And yeah, 4K 60 is definitely desirable for buttery smooth video, and I’ve been doing that with my R5 and iPhone 12 Pro a bit more, lately. In fact, I just did some test b-roll with the iPhone and the Powervision S1 this arvo. I gaveyour hammock a like. 👍😄

Good video. Love my Fuji XT-4. But like some have said here, each brand has pluses and minuses. The best advice I ever heard from a salesman at B&H was: "A camera is a tool. What are you going to use it for?" That said, if you're looking for tack sharp and super fast auto-focus you may want to stick with Sony or Canon. But if you grew up with a manual, love the tactical feel and are willing to miss a shot, then Fuji is a ton of fun.

You wanted a camera that is enjoyable to use: so Fuji. Yes!! You've seen the light! My old Sony A7ii just stopped working - no explanation for the failure and nothing fixed it. Fuji is wonderful to handle and use and without the tedious screen menu that I loathed about Sony. Do landscape with Fuji and the 10-24mm lens - you won't look back. Fuji juice is good for you.

Back in January 2020, I pulled away from Fujifilm and went with Sony. This January, I purchased the X-T4 for one area - macro. I simply enjoyed my Fujifilm gear for macro over what I used with my Sony system.

I mention I’m switching for the video spec, which implies 10-bit 4:2:2 etc, 4K 60 etc, but this video is not a thorough review or going over all the camera specs in detail, more so my reasons for switching 😊 Enjoy the XT4. I love it. The 4K on it is great

You got some prints! Where did you end up getting them done? Are they gonna be for sale on your website? Yeah, I'm not letting up on that! I've actually found myself not using my Fujifilm much at all since getting the R5, even though the main reason I got the R5 was for photos. Also using the X-Pro2 less for street in favour of the R5. I think the XT-4 is a good middleman between an XT-3 and the Canon R5, 'cause it's got that articulating screen and is nice and light. If the XT-3 had that kind of screen, I'd probably still be using it for my videos (now I mostly use it when I want to vlog myself using the R5). Wish you'd shared some of the photos you'd taken with the XT-4 when you talked about them. It would have been interesting to see, especially since you mentioned how much you liked the film simulations it has, and most of us here are visual kinda people. Oh, and I hit like. When do I get my hammock?

😂 Prints I got done through a mate, so will probably print through him as I’m sure it will be rare that a print sale happens. Pretty happy with the prints. I really like the XT4 so far but have only used it for video when out doing landscape photography, for photography I have taken a lot of photos of family out at the beach, park, or around the city etc but didn’t wanna show those in the video. I have used the Eterna film simulation for my outdoors vlogs and really happy with that. Will make more videos soon on the Fuji doing landscape and the JPG challenge seems to be a well received concept. One like = one swing in the hammock, welcome any time 😂 haha Thanks again mate!

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for watching. It could be a learning curve for photographers who aren’t clear on the exposure triangle, but if you are all over Shutter speed, aperture and ISO it’s fine! 😊. I use the Eterna simulation for my vlogs, and I often use a few others when taking photos of my son out on the weekends. Thanks again.

I came away thinking I really want a hammock...like given! 😂 The XT4 is an excellent choice for a vlogging camera, and if you want to save weight on any long hikes I'm sure it will do a great job for stills too. I just don't have the energy to carry 2 cameras out most of the time, hence my S5 choice for both video and stills and the GoPro for extra vlogging. The GoPro can be frustrating at times as at its best it's hard to distinguish the video from the S5, and the IS can be excellent, but the quality drops so much in low light, and when that happens the RU-vid compression absolutely destroys it further, and since I'm doing a lot of stuff in forests that happens a lot. I keep trying different things to work out how I can get the best from it, and my last video showed me that (stupidly for an action camera) in low light it looks so much better not moving than when it is. I think the Osmo Pocket could be a better option for me, however given how many times my GoPro has hit the ground I suspect I'd kill one if I got it 🤣 I think my next purchase will be a drone...I'm waiting to see if DJI release a new Mini this year (with hopefully a smaller controller!)

The hammock is great, my regular “catch up on RU-vid chill spot”. Thanks for the like 😆. Yeah the low light was one main reason I haven’t purchased a GoPro yet but would like one for timelapses and POV angles. The Fuji is a wonderful hybrid and you’re right, half the reason I want it is it’s ability to do photo and video if need be, I use it a lot for both! 😊 I do want a Tele for the Fuji, keen to see what Tamron release. The S5 was second runner up in my choice but the Fuji just felt like it suited me. I’m also waiting for a drone, but I need to re save for that. 😂 thanks for watching Lisa!

My m50 has had problems after getting splashed with salt water. My experience is similar with wet conditions. Might just keep the Canon for my real estate work.

How did you find the Auto Focus? XT-4 vs M50?

M50 was pretty reliable, the XT4 isn’t bad, but depends more on the lenses you use. I wasn’t a fan of the M50 video quality outside, not bad but a bit flat

@@RauriBarron Yep I would agree the M50 is great for inside locked off shots. I have a M50 and was looking at the XT4. Would love a Sony a7IV but having trouble getting over $5400 price tag with a Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens

@@pickledtours yeah well said mate, couldn’t agree more, the M50 is average outdoors, the XT4 is better, but depends, if you’re doing handheld vlogging with the xt4, that proximity, with the kit lens will have no issues with AF on your face. If you are a distance from the camera doing talking bits then face/eye AF wouldn’t be best. I usually switch to single spot or manual and set it up. The A7iv is too much for me too.

I shot with the X-T2 then the X-T3 for a couple of years before getting the Nikon Z7. The one thing I wasn't very impressed with the fuji was how the raw files rendered using Adobe.

Hi! Thanks for watching, yeah that is an issue I am dealing with using a plug in.. not as convenient for sure. Thankfully I use it primarily for video 😊 the Z7 is a great full frame mirrorless 🤩
