What really sold me more than anything else was the delicate balance of power in Terra Invicta. Inter-human faction dealings are much more complicated than ANY strategy game I've ever seen. Every action, every bit of power you gain, puts an even bigger target on your back. Even if it feels like you're losing, that usually just means you have more space and time to work with, because less people are gonna be coming after you. This balance of power really hits hard with aliens, though, as you have to be extremely careful with how much ire you draw from the aliens. And they are SMART. If you go to war with them, the FIRST thing they will do is destroy all your undefended mining outposts that are sending valuable resources back to you. They have a serious mobility and firepower advantage over you until you gain parity. I played as the Academy through and through. I didn't see them as 'too idealistic' at all. I saw them as the opposite, because they understand that you can't just have a dream. You have to be ready to enforce that vision through force of arms if necessary. They are the most realistic of all, because while the goals they aim for are quite high and seemingly unreachable, they will stop at nothing to achieve them, because compromising your ideals is unacceptable.

As someone who lives in Ontario I forgive you for nuking Toronto, none of us liked it anyway

Always a relief to know that it's not just people outside of Ontario that can't stand Toronto but even people within the province and self.

I have nearly 700 hours in Terra Invicta, and honestly, I'm still learning. Weapon systems and really getting used to the different engine types (now post changes in the latest validation release build). Personally, I absolutely love this game and has slowly become one of my favorite games. I just greatly hope that this gets further development time and a lot of the bugs/performance fixed.

This is by far the best review of this game on RU-vid. Thank you for the time you put into this!

Excellent review! This game as much as I wish it was, probably isn't for me. I can't help but be captivated by the sheer amount of systems and simulations at work in games like this, it's insanely impressive. Even though I will probably never be the kind of person to be able to succeed in a game as deep as this one. Kudos to the developers for being able to pull off something so grand scale in a simulation stretching across the solar system and beyond.

Good review. Thanks for making time for it. I've played TI a LOT for the past year and it is indeed hard, you really need to invest time to understand the mechanics. And it's all the greater for it, especially if you're interested in global geopolitics and hard sci-fi. And I agree, it takes a long time to play. 50-100 hours for one full campaign minimum. That said, I think you were not doing particularly well in the video footage: 40 science/day is very weak for the late 2030s. I can imagine research took forever this way.

Indeed, That was my second playthrough where I learned the hard way you can't neglect space because it's going to set you behind big time. Also in that campaign in particular I made things worse for myself by tunnel visioning on very high-cost science projects thinking it would give me an edge. Big newbie mistake.

A friend is playing it and thanks for the review. I don't think I have the time to commit. 500 hours in valheim with friends is more my zone.

If you're looking for a real challenge in an earth defence simulator, this is the game for you. I loved it. It's basically the game 3 body problem.

The LongWar for XCOM:EW is probably the best mod I have ever played (and that's really saying something). It's soooo good man. Longwar2 is probably just as good, but I didnt enjoy xcom2 that much overall so I havent really played it enough to judge it. This game has been on my list awhile, but I havent took the plunge yet (learning a complex game takes dedication ha). Ty for the review!

For those who play grand strategy (like EU4), then this is really good. Did not have performance issues, decently modern rig with NVME

been playing this game for over 120 hours(and am still on my first campaign, though I am rather slow), I have played the game for a few hours after work for a long while now lol. It's both painful and amazing, I do recommend having fewer space objects (less than 200, a few hundred asteroids is too many to manage). The game seems to go through phases where everything feels fast paced and exciting (from mounting a surprise attack on an alien invasion fleet to dumping your research into global tech and stealing it at the last moment) to incredibly slow and monotonous, and it keeps going in these ups and downs. Overall I highly recommend it if you ever felt stellaris lacked enough depth and strategy, and also if you have the patience or autism to enact that strategy over a long period of time.

Great review! The game is super slow and complex. Tech tree is redundant, interface is difficult. You will need pen and paper to keep track of many many numbers if you want to survive.

Hi, are you from the USA? It's good to know that there are comrades in the USA, I'm meeting some lately and changing my opinion about your country. A few months ago, if a nuclear bomb had exploded in the USA I would have laughed, today I think differently. Not really, your country is still a threat to Latin America, but I'm actually having more empathy

Great review. Did you happen to make a video on a different channel a long time ago talking about alternative history? I think it was specifically about Germany in WW1.

Thank you for the review, grabbed this game awhile ago for much the same reasons you did. However, I tend to like traditional roguelikes and grand strategy 4X titles - throwing myself into a wall repeatedly taking lessons from each loss or watching a 10 hour playthrough get deleted is not a 'bad' thing for me.

Lot of negative reviews on my mega-crossover project was like many negtaive reviews of Terra Invicta(in terms of their biases and misunderstandings) And I did enjoy this game, as well this was X-com with Orions' arm use of Real Life physics

I think the wall that 90% of players run into on their first few plays is that they treat the aliens and other factions as dumb animals which if they annoy you, can be hit and driven off. When the Servants steal something from you, or worse assassinate one of your councilors, the common reaction is to retaliate by assassinating one of their councilors in turn. But now you are at war, and the servants are now going to focus their efforts on screwing you over. As you grow your power base, if you are far ahead, other factions will trend towards war with you if you don't diplomatically appease them. People will be playing resistance, and they'll steal a bunch of organizations from humanity first and overthrow some of their governments, and then they don't understand that Humanity first is now at War with you, and are going to dedicate as much effort into hurting you as the aliens, and it doesn't matter to Humanity First that the aliens are the greater threat.

You nuked The Six and southern Ontario ! If the residents of the USA didn’t like the wildfire smoke this spring, they sure wouldn’t like the fallout. Good review It’s really three games I think though The political game on Earth The space economy/colonial game The space combat game

I played it right when it came into early access and I enjoyed it a lot but I found the aliens were basically cheating by mind controlling and assassinsting all my dudes so I quit. I’m looking to try it again when it gets closer to release, also, they need to optimize this game like crazy, it chugged on my 5800x with 3080.

This game also let's you do other insane shit. Like Having Nations annex other nations. Or The Opposite, have them Secede. So you can have The United States Annex Canada, Cuba, Mexico, and Greenland. It's friggin' nuts. Unrelated to this, you seen Songs of Silence yet?

For a paradox game enthusiast that seems to be one of the most basic land combat and economy sistems since the game didnt need that so nothing wrong with that.
