I'd say armed citizens is more of a deterrent against gun violence. Less criminals are going to cause trouble when their prey will fight back with deadly force.

Criminals already carry guns and they never asked anyone for permission. I do hope that people that plan on owning a gun will be responsible and get some training to use it properly I for one will definitely get one. Lets just be safe about and not give this people that are against it a chance to say we told you so. SO PLEASE DON'T GET TRIGGER HAPPY

I promise, Texas would be a much safer place to be in this case. I would encourage training to anyone who decided to carry and or is not familiar with a hand gun. But this is in fact a step in the right direction!

A gun is simply a tool. A power tool if you will. You have to be careful when using a saw due to the fact that a saw can maim or kill you such as a skill saw or chain saw. A gun can either scare an attacker, maim the attacker, or if need be kill the attacker. It's a tool that should be used with caution and respected at all times. It's simply a tool and its protected by the 2nd amendment. ENOUGH SAID.

Of the top 5 lowest violent crime states, 4 are Constitutional carry. My state of Idaho is in that top 5 and the carry of firearms is very common. Constitutional carry works very well.

To answer Sen. Sarah Eckhardt's question of how are you supposed to know who is legally carrying a hand gun. Well with just a carry license you still don't know unless you walk up to the person and demand they show a carry license. Now you just have to walk up and ask to see their ID and so long as it says they are 21 or older it is the same as if they had a carry license. In both cases you are harassing someone just being there that just happens to be practicing their right to defend themselves. The worst this bill does is to not allow a charge of illegal carry of a weapon in the event that the person actually does commit a crime and an officer has to have more of a reason to accost a citizen than just they have a gun on them. However, as someone who sells guns as their job. I do encourage everyone to at least take an entry class in handling and operating a firearm correctly. This bill does not change my stance on that in either direction. There are some people that buy guns that I am just thinking to myself 'please be careful...' The bill has no effect on who could buy guns in the first place and there are people that really need to at least watch an hour worth of youtube instruction if they can not afford a hands on class on top of the firearm and ammo.

In my opinion they need to fix the background check systems because you allow somebody to make a purchase of a firearm online with their credit card / debit card and their personal information then the person confirms the transaction then you get an email saying your transaction it's been completed your pickup of your rifle will be ready on May 6th yet u go there to pick it up. And they tell you you need a background check before you can leave our store with your gun. But yet you have a deer hunting license and tag already you already paid for your gun online. And obviously the purchase or transaction went through on the credit card / debit card so obviously the person was able to purchase the firearm in the first place so why would a background check need to be their online safety firearms check system obviously allowed it so they don't need another background check that's a problem they should fix and your rights shall never be infringed.. it's not guilty till proven innocent it's innocent until proven guilty that dude needs to be fired ASAP you could tell he is corrupt in my opinion

Dear TX Republicans, I’m a gun owner, have been all my life, I was a republican... am now an independent... I have a question for the People responsible for passing this bill. What are you going to say if/when a mentally disturbed person buys a gun without a background check or training and walks into a school or a shopping center and starts shooting people? Think of the optics... some poor Mother speaking on television and asking the TX Republicans for the rationale behind this bill and why her child is dead... Given the state of gun violence in this nation, I bet the chances are about 50/50 of something like this happening this year and 100% if it goes two or more years... what are you going to say to the parents of the kids? The husbands and wives of the teachers... This goes against responsible gun ownership. It doesn’t make any sense? What about Felons... can they walk into a Walmart and buy a gun? And the real insult is... I think the only reason the TX Republicans are doing this is to thumb their noses at the democrats. Come on! These are people’s lives... real lives! is it really worth it? Why can’t we set aside all the hard feelings and just try to do what makes sense for Americans. There are some things we should all agree on. Please don't think that just because you know how to use a gun makes you qualified,you need to train(practice dry-firing if you can't get ammo).And be aware of your surroundings(situational awareness).If you need to stop a "killer" of innocent people,the last thing you want to do is add to the (innocent)casualties.

The net effect of the law will be zero....law-abiding citizens who have always carried will do so without registering with the state and paying a fee, and criminals intent on doing bad things will continue to do so as well. This doesn't do anything other than keep the state out of the lives and wallets of law-abiding citizens, and that is why Democrats opposed it.

1:38 830K gun owners in TX? lol you'd better check again. Theres over 1.5M LTC holders alone. The 830K is the number of people who have registered guns because of the type of guns they own which would be illegal without proper documentation and licensing. The real number is probably closer to 4M. The ATF might have the real number, but its not accessible to anyone...especially this dude who has no idea what he's talking about.

This bill heads back to the house for approval of senate amendments, not to the govs desk...yet...sure would be nice if the ppl writing news copy either paid attention to the preceedings and/or had paid attention in Civics 101...it heads to the house again, if passed as amended it goes to the govs desk. Abbot has already said he will sign ANY pro 2nd amendment bill, including this one, that hits his desk.
