it's possible to play TF2 in VR using VorpX and yeah, unless you use third person models, the gun takes up a huge amount of your view.

You can actually guess at it and after some time get quite good, but you can't look at the viewmodel for reference. I used to have a lot of fun on crit servers with the blutsauger, I always just pointed the gun like 3 meters next to where the person I was shooting was going, also when you're a medic, people usually don't perceive you as such a threat and get cocky and lazy with their dodges. So it wasn't too hard to kill even a scout, especially when every needle did 30 dmg..

A crit deals a mix of regular damage and critical damage (which is implemented as acid damage in the game engine). Using the revolver as an example: a normal shot deals 40 bullet damage, increased or decreased using the range modifier. A critical hit with that gun will deal 40 bullet damage and 80 critical damage, and bullet DR will only apply to the bullet part (so 15% bullet DR will only help by 0.15*40 = 6 damage in that case, instead of the expected 0.15*120 = 18 damage). Well, except when you're more than 512 hammer units away. When you're >512HU from your target, your damage is normally reduced by falloff. When you get a crit, this still happens. This is offset by adding additional critical damage to bring you back up to the base damage total for the weapon. This means that once you're past 512HU, moving farther away won't reduce the total damage dealt, but it will shift it to be more critical and less whatever the normal damage type of the weapon is (out to 1024HU, where it flattens out). This has the incredibly bizarre effect where, if you have DR against the normal damage type of the weapon but not critical damage you will take the least damage per shot when you're at exactly 512HU from someone shooting with crits - you'll take more from rampup if you're closer, and you'll take more from loss of DR if you're farther. The ambassador is presumably doing the same thing, but applying the range modifier to both damage numbers. EDIT: The weird behavior I described applies to both crits and minicrits.

@@Armisael16th Ok thanks but I was especially curious about the Ambassador against the DDS. Using your input as a guide I still can't get the "bullet" part to deal only 31 damage. Assuming of course that the crit part is reduced by 15%. And if it was against a normal target then it would deal 102 damage. Keep in mind I want to disregard range completely out of the equation, so let's assume the distance is a perfect 512 hU. That eliminates damage ramp-up/fall-off

@@Da_Random I don't get to 99 either; it should've been 2.85*34 = 96.9, rounds to 97 damage. That said, I tested with the pain train and the bullet and crit resistances in MVM and wasn't able to find any deviations from the formula I provided. I don't have the mods installed required to recreate the old DDS, so I wasn't able to directly test that.
