o7 this video is officially just history as of july 7th 2022 www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=140004 ---- companion video, comparing the different demoman weapons: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LAARoaRBrlg.html acknowledgement: i made the extra video because it was something i could do while i was already analyzing the way demo projectiles were fired, but i understand that it might not be particularly good for benchmarking / technical analysis. i might make something deliberately catered to that later, but i'm just saying - yeah sorry i didn't put much thought into it, and didn't intend for it to be a super deep dissection of every projectile flight path. bonus thoughts: most of my videos are like 3-5 days of research, but i wanted to make sure i didn't publish anything incorrect about the issue, so research ending up taking about 12 days. genuinely the most exhausting video to make, so far on this channel. hope it was worth it!

I think we all can agree on one thing after this video... Iron bomber's projectiles need to be *replaced with a train* to make it balanced If not Demoman is totally unplayable

I like to imagine that the random velocity applied to each of the launched grenades is just Demoman being drunk

Oh, you thought the cannonball was the biggest? What a fool you are. The iron bomber's is bigger! How can it be bigger? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How can you be so naive? There is no explanation, no source code tweaking or digging is gonna answer that. Come now, lay down your grenade launcher, it is not too late to be part of the meta.

Looking at the release dates of the weapons, we see that the Iron Bomber is the newest primary, and was released alongside the Quickiebomb Launcher in the Smissmas 2014 Update. With that in mind I'd wager that what happened is whoever implemented these weapons started with the Quickie, looked at the implementation of the Scottish Resistance and matched it, and then used that same implementation method on the Iron Bomber. The problems that arise are pretty unobvious, so since there were no massive issues, it passed spec and went into the game.

A small note: The Loch 'n' Load has an attribute that actually makes it fire with no random projectile deviation which exists on no other weapon.

this is why i genuinely love shounic videos, everyone published information on the iron bomber large hit box and everyone was like reee. but shounic goes above and beyond with his research, finding out why it happens and digs up other info. Then presents it in a meaningful way that doesnt seem like a code walk through and attribute list. Well done

6:02 I think the randomness about the stickybombs is because of the 'charge' feature, not the physics. Even if you hold down the trigger for half a second, it'll still add a little bit of extra range.

i just like the look and sound of it, plus the fact that all my "s k i l" plays with the iron bomber is now rendered semi irrelevant makes me a bit sad.

Then he bought two of every grenade launcher and then he took them on a itemtest server. And then used the crap out of every grenade launcher. *Giggles* and from that day foward anytime a grenade launcher is used IRON BOMBER IS STILL OP!

hilarious how when i fire the loose cannon, most of the time it feels like it doesn't connect with it at all, and now i see how the iron bomber gets dibs on actually being a meaty projectile

0:48 - The pipe bomb knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.

In my opinion the iron bomber’s pipes hitbox was not a problem at all it perfectly fit the size. it’s the other pipes hitboxes that should change to fit their size better.
