Another movie where they explain how Ford's character gets his chin scar. Here it's his amateur attempt at using the whip as a teen. In Working Girl he explains his gf tried to pierce his ear in the bathroom as a teen and he passed out and hit his chin on the toilet. In reality he got it when he was in a bad car accident when he was younger and hit a telephone pole.

Yep. Finished the trilogy. No other films in the series. Nope. And River still had Sneakers and My Own Private Idaho to film, along with a couple others.. River's last film, weirdly, is the 2012 film "Dark Blood", which was filmed in 1993 and left unfinished in tribute to him for two decades. There were also some missing scenes that Phoenix was unable to film and were completed with narration. The outside shot of the Temple is Petra, a real life world historical site in Jordan. It was ancient when the Romans occupied it. Also, Wilhelm scream. 31:10

This is a movie for all Juniors who hate the fact they don’t have a name of their own. Once Henry called his son Indiana - his chosen name - that’s when Indy “woke up” and listened to his dad. My father actually used the line on me: you left home when you were finally getting interesting.

Awesome Reaction...... Sean Connery Plays this role Superbly...... In real life Sean was only 12 Years older than Harrison.... "Indiana" was the name of George Lucas's Alaskan Malamute Dog, which was also the inspiration for Chewbacca in Star Wars. The "Crusades" were the the wars/campaigns during the Middle ages to free Jerusalem from the Muslin's.... I like the 4th movie "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull....I have not seen "Dial of Desiny"..... _The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles_ was canceled before its intended conclusion (at which time, around 1925, Indy would have been about 25 or 26), but it did hang in there for 24 episodes (28 total, but 4 were unaired), and 4 TV movies. Young Indy made it to age 21. There were already at least another 17 episodes planned for production when the show was pulled.

2:04 his last completed movie was “A Thing Called Love” but his last film actually came out in 2012 called “Dark Blood”. He filmed 80% of the movie before he died and the director decided to complete it in 2012. He decided to complete it by narrating the script for the remaining scenes. 4:01 this was done to explain the scar on Harrison Ford’s chin. 43:00 that was actually the name of George Lucas’s dog. He worked with Spielberg to create Indiana jones cause Spielberg wanted to create a “James Bond” style movie and they worked out Indiana Jones in Hawaii while hiding out from the premiere of Star Wars A New Hope.

I love how they managed to have stuff in the climax mirror the beginning of Raiders to bring it full circle (not that that's the only part that had callbacks in this film). The first challenge was similar to the spears that shot out if you stepped into the light. The Leap of Faith was a callback to the pit they had to swing over with the whip. Spelling out the name of God was similar to Indy having to watch where he stepped while walking up to the golden idol. Both temples collapsed because of something somebody did wrong with the artifact they were trying to extract. And Indy either flew off or rode off into the sunset.

Indiana Jones gets a lot of grief these days as a kind of pseudo-criminal "stealing cultural treasures for western museums" a concept that has been blown way out of proportion to objective reality. The real sad fact is that most people do not give a rodent's backside about any history unless someone is willing to pay them for it. International antiquities treaties require the return of any artifact at the request of a legit institution from that region who must agree not to resell it. The much derided British Museum houses thousands of artifacts from other countries and 99.99% of them have not been requested returned, however 100% of the legit requests have been honored. The real problem in antiquities is "private collections" held by obsessive rich collectors - like the Walter Donovan character we are introduced to in this movie. These private collections are often completely undocumented and poorly stored to optimize display over preservation. Due to black market demand many antiquities in private collections are from museums who "lost" the work or "discovered" the original was replaced with a fake.
@tigqc
@tigqc 3 месяца назад
Totally agree. Marcus even makes a quick reference to a international antiquities treaty during his first scene with Indy in Raiders, which means Spielberg and Lucas were very well aware about that perception of Indy while making the film. Indy was even prepared to go after the golden idol for the museum because Belloq simply wanted to sell it for personal profit.
@rgoodwyn
@rgoodwyn 3 месяца назад
I don't really see many people criticizing Indy for that. I see a lot more issue being taken with his romantic entanglements. However, correct me if I'm wrong but Indy does get paid for the stuff he brings back. He def cares about the History too but he also wants to get paid lol.

As the OCD pedant rises in me, I must clarify that there was no blimp travel in this movie. The craft was a dirigible, which has a steel frame with a fabric covering and multiple internal hydrogen chambers to keep it aloft. A blimp has no frame, simply a gondola strapped under a shaped balloon. Oh, and after that whole Hindenburg thing of course hydrogen fell out of style since helium isn't as... kaboomy. 😁

Okay, so.. Harrison did a film in 1985 called The Mosquito Coast. It is a somewhat controversial movie because of the politics and messaging it seems to be saying as its theme, but it's the film Ford really went on a limb taking a chance playing a wildly unhinged man whose the lead of the film, but he ain't no hero or even anti -hero. He's nuts. Harrison had balls to commit to the part as written which is an unsympathetic madman who uproots his family from America to move to a third world country because he believes the American dream only works overseas now. Blah blah f*ckety blah. The young actor cast as his son who comes of age in a hurry where his rite of passage will eventually be a direct collision course with his stark raving insane pops. River Phoenix plays Harrison's son and rheir entire dynamic as father and son is revieting. River had just came off of Stand By Me directly into this and he's flat out amazing. His range at that young am age where he's holding his own against prime Ford at the height of his powers whose absolutely going for it in a truly go-for-broke gonzo performance. But, it's Phoenix's big monologue scene away from Ford where in the middle of Hell he declares his undying love to an equally young, game Martha Plimpton that is easily the best scene of the movie. He would play a similar complicated uprooted teen four years later in Running On Empty, but here he's got the intensity of a thousand suns and nobody can touch him. He owns rhat movie. This is all context to say that Harrison said he liked him as an actor, but what took him aback was how earily close River looked like Harrison did when he was a teenager. And there's a vid somewhere on RU-vid where they matched Ford's high school yearbook photo next to River's and they are dead ringers for each other. So, flash forward three years when Spielberg is casting The Last Crusade and explaining the opening origin story portion to Harrison. Steven said his only concern was finding a young actor doning the impossible task of living up to being the youthful embodiment of what we know the boy will grow up to be our swash buckling dashing hero adventurer that was already iconic played by an equally iconic actor of Ford's caliber. Spieberg said he was already dreading the cattle call audition process to find this fool's errand perfect young Indy. Ford immediately said, don't bother. I already found him. I got just the kid. Steven asked who and that's when Ford explained his working experience with Phoenix and how he was the spitting image of him when he was his age. Plus, people said he sounded like him when scenes called for River to be dark and intensely brooding. Which, of course, Spielberg knew every working and non working actor in Hollywood and absolutely loved River Phoenix as a performer and was sold on the idea instantly. Phoenix would later say sheepishly in an interview that the crew used to egg him on during the Mosquito Coast shoot to 'do Harrison.' And Phoenix had developed a Ford impression to bust up everybody be between takes. Never realizing that the send-up impression of Harrison would prove invaluable a couple years later when he got the part as teen Indy. When he grabs tgayt snake in the cave and dismissevely dangles it in front of him, saying 'It's just a snake.' in pitch perfect Ford snark and scawling indiffernce, it's really impressive and pretty glorious.

Both have a young Sharon Stone, John Rhys Davis is in the first and James Earl Jones is in the second. Indiana draws a lot of inspiration from Quartermain. Treasure hunting, fist fighting, shooting fist fighters, smart ass, ladies man, chaos generator... Quartermain even fights Germans (pre-genocide😬)

They had blimps back then?!? Umm.... the Hindenburg anyone? And it's a zeppelin, not a "blimp." Blimps are filled with helium. Zeppelin's used hydrogen, and were extremely flammable, hence the Hindenburg disaster.

Hello Tara, I want to tell you guys something since you’re so understanding, I’ve been down in the dumps lately and I haven’t had any one to talk to about my feelings. I’m moving for the first time in my life in about a month and a half. I’m scared that I’m going to be alone for the first time in my life. Can I message you on here whenever I need to talk, if and when I’m really down and need a pick me up?

Ford and Connery had unreal chemistry. Do yourself a favor do not watch the rest they should of ended it here. It saddens me when I see Rover Phoenix and what might of been if he did not OD

The next one is fine. Is it as good as this one, no but it's still a fun movie. This movie is a hard act to follow.

They should have stopped with this movie! The next 2 movies I found to be very disappointing.
