K11 Micra was my first car. Drove it for 2 years, crashed it twice, never did the oil service, still drove straight and started every single time. When people think about reliability, i think this is the kind of car they SHOULD think of.

My First car is one of these. I've had it five months, it's been through 5000 miles of delivery driving, college and uni dailying, shopping, ragging up to 90mph on the a46, it's fantastic - cost me £200. They really are indestructible engines and they corner so well. Anyone who wants the cheapest stand in car - these give you no issues. Edit: Go for a manual, they're so much more fun.

I had a 1993 Micra 1.3 16v for 10 years. It was my Grandad's and it was passed onto to me at 17. The car was 5 years old and had 7,000 miles on the clock. Had it 10 years. Although I didn't rag it, I wish I'd have taken better care of it. It was a great little car. It was nippy, it was roomy, the non-assisted steering was nice and it was the first time I ever tasted freedom. I could drive wherever I wanted without Mum and Dad looking over my shoulder. I'll always have incredibly fond memories of it. Wished I'd have fixed some of the rust, wished I'd have fixed the oil sump. Scrapped it when it had 90,000 on the clock. I've had objectively much better cars since but this will always be my favourite. Rest in peace K35 OBG. :-)

At long last you're reviewing a decent car‼️ I had one of these, an Si 1.3, and it was brilliant. I was eventually nagged into moving up-market, so I bought my current 12 years old Micra. As you know, a genuine petrolhead will go to any length to get the car of their dreams. The engine in the K11 is an automotive work of art. I hope the New Year will see you concentrating on such beautiful machines rather than the nondescript, run of the mill rubbish you tend to test‼️

My ex-girlfriends grandma had one of these, with the CVT and the even more gutless 1.0i engine. I had to drive it a few times just because the battery would go flat otherwise. With the pedals you have to understand that they aren't actually an accelerator and a brake, but rather "Noise" and "Fear". The one on the right increases the engine noise, the one on the left is used to measure your level of terror, and neither have any real bearing on your speed which is controlled mostly by the slope of the road.

@@StephenButlerOne they were a variant of the 1.8 with larger valves and around 190-200bhp at about 7500-8000rpm. Used in the S1 Exige and various Caterhams like the R500. A lot of them weren't very well built (poor crank balancing, uprated headbolts that didn't let the block expand when hot) and had a reputation for being a bit hand grenadey.

Hi Jay, my Dad passed away in January & left behind his silver S reg Si Micra with only 35k miles on the clock. I've just gotten round to giving it a good clean & polish & am currently charging the battery. It has a few scrapes to the rear bumper & alloys, but other than that it's a good car. Oh, it has sunroof & A/C. It's not my type of car, but I'm wanting to keep it for awhile & give it a good service in memory of my Dad.

We would get rid of them at 10k miles or 6 months but they were kept way past that ! One 00 one we had had 65k on and we called her grandmother !! It drove better than a new one A good friend had a 1.3 super S and it was brilliant over the back roads ! My missus had a 97 one for 12 years - never 1 problem apart from a rusty cross member - we got her sorted for 100 quid ! Modern cars don't have a record like that - a legend of a car ! Those badges and woofer are funny indeed, yes. But.... I bought one. And removed badges first. 1.0 54BHP with manual box and retractable roof. For exactly the same reasons. To work. To survive winter. I covered approx. 4000 miles since I bought it. Insurance almost for free. Almost 40mpg. Thanks to roof I do not need an AC. It's ran in the city only so 60mph is all OK. It only wanted new oil and tyres. It's cheaper then bus. Just comparing to the bus there are no stinky sweated people who never heard of shower nor fragrance on your back in the summer peak and it is usually on time. Less than 4m length, wheels in corners, great view and excellent turning diameter enables it to park anywhere. That car does exactly what I did want it to do. Nothing more. For almost zero costs. So for me the price/value rate is very good.

I had an Audi S3 with big mods so I needed a cheap daily, my pal had a 1.0 manual affectionately known as the bird poo Micra. I always took the mick and swore I'd lever get one but a train ride and £380 later I was driving home laughing out loud at how slow it was but instantly I knew I liked it and it's cheeky little face. It served me well at work in security at all kinds of festivals, trips to London from the south coast, racing other slow hatch backs through tiny country twisties and taking my Nan to the shops. It was fun to "try" and drive fast and economical and dependable too. I am soon due to buy "the bird poo Micra" as my pal is upgrading to a mint low mileage example of yet another K11. You will only dislike one until you own it. Banger race it on the road, slide around in a field or enjoy some of the best handbrake turns you can get out of a car nowadays and never care if someone scratches or dents it. An all time fav car of mine and so many others. Salute the K11. Salute....

Mine was decent! 1.3 16v with 75hp & no weight. It would easily play with xr2 & xr3i’s off the line & pull to an indicated 120. Really underrated

My one is a 98 R K111.0l shape 5dr n-cvt, my dad bought it from new, has 67k miles on it. I used it to tow my go-kart trailer around. Still use it, it's fun around town :)

Got a 2002 manual model. It has been abused but the worst thats happened to it is the sunroof handle broke and a window handle falls off. Other than that it has been perfect. Thrashed down the motorway. Rammed with junk for the tip. Tootling around town. Its a fantastic car.

I recently bought a 2003 Polo with 1.2 12V engine under the bonnet which puts down a simillar amount of horses being comparably *small* and I love the car In 2 months I`ll be making a worthwhile trip around the country putting around 500 miles on the ODO. I think such cars aren`t inherently a city bound or made for elders or youngsters but rather people who don`t care for the performance in their cars just like me and I`m nowhere to be compared to either of them

These are the most underrated small cars of their time. You might see the odd fiesta or corsa of the same age still on the road once in a while, but I see at least three of these a day. My girlfriend loves them. I drive hers regularly and it is faster than the fiesta 1.25 I had as my first car and its only a 998 haha. Brilliant little things. Handling isn't great but that makes it fun even at 40.

Lots suffered from rust, the engine is fine provided you keep oil changed regularly and spark plugs usually neglected on second hand models.

This is a great idea and something I've done for the last six months or so. Got a "good" car that I drive, but for the daily commute I have a 2004 Toyota Yaris. I don't care if someone dings it on the car park at work.

Great video and fun assessment of probably one of the best cars ever created to do the job of being ‘just a car’. We have had one in our family now since it was new 20 years ago and it’s been brilliant. Never let us down, cost virtually nothing in maintenance over the years and has been owned and driven by the archetypal little old lady (my mother in-law as first owner) my wife, my daughter, my son, and now me. Yes, they are never going to set the tarmac alight, but on the other hand, I’ve never had a fear of MOTs, as it’s jet to fail one. It’s now only just gone into retirement from dairy service, and will be cherished and used for shows such as the Festival of the Unexceptional, which is right up its street. Thanks for doing a road test of a car that does what it was supposed to do - get people around cheaply and reliably 😀

A 1999 'Sky' Swift (3 door with alloys and a spoiler) 1.0 litre was my first car buy. Loved it and took it everywhere. From Kent to the North of England, to Scotland, you name it. It, like all old Suzuki's, rusted to absolute hell. Weighed it in rusted through and with a whiny gearbox. It was a risk buy on eBay back in like 2008/9 for £600. Didn't regret it one bit!

Micras are the best shit box cars you can get definitely. They are cheap asf and super reliable. With the K11s just keep an eye out for rust on the sills and rear floorplans, especially on the sun roof models. I have a K 12 Micra and it starts every time without fault, cruises along quite happily. The K11s are probably the best for reliability as the early K12s had timing chain issues.

Basically cost free motoring and it helped us save for a house. If you want to laugh at that go ahead

I also had a 1.3 Micra though it was the earlier 1994 LX model. No power steering, and a manual gearbox. It had about 70bhp and was very nippy. It even managed to pull 2 20+ stone men, a not so heavy bloke, a rabbit the size of a dog and a full oil barrel without too much to complain. It was extremely basic transport. Treated like rubbish and never broke down. It had to go in the end as the poor thing rotted almost as bad as Lawrie's Dodge fire engine... But I loved it, every drive in it brought a smile or a laugh.

10/10 for that. One of the best reviews I’ve seen. Full stop. Made me chuckle a fair bit. Your next cheap shit box review should be a Perodua Kelisa or Kenari. I once test drove the Kenari for a laugh, and much like that K11 Micra, it was so terrible it was actually brilliant. Or test a Breadvan Polo 1.3, my mate Nick had one alongside his 3.0 TDI A5. The Polo was so hilarious I had to stop driving because I was laughing too much.

Downhill once managed 107 indicated although I dread to think what the GPS would have said 😂 great fun car and on budget tires the back end would kick out in the rain on roundabouts with some lift off oversteer 😂 so cheap to run tho like 30 quid for front brakes Vs my Audi now at 10x that price 😭😂
