The 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition is Toyota's Final Send Off to the Series 200 LC

The #ToyotaLandCruiser is the oldest running nameplate in the Toyota lineup. For 2021, the #LandCruiserHeritageEdition is the sayonara given by #Toyota to the #Series200 generation, which has been around since 2008. There are rumors that Toyota will bring the #LandCruiser back as a more purpose built and less expensive off-roader, but this 2021 version should very well become a collectors item for those of you who can afford its $85k price tag.

Hey guys! So this video was filmed before Toyota confirmed that 2021 would be the last model year of the series 200 Land Cruiser in the US. They have no commented on when it would return, but there are rumors saying it could come back in 2023 as a Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco competitor. We're keeping our fingers crossed that Toyota gives this nameplate the proper revival it deserves, especially with so many new off-road lifestyle SUV coming to marker in the next couple years!

All land cruisers will become collectible. I bought mine before the announcement and got a great deal. Now they are going over sticker. This is the best vehicle in the world. You can drive it from Anchorage to Argentina no problem. It’s the most capable durable reliable vehicle ever made and will go down as the most sought after Toyota ever. Ford expeditions and Yukon’s are around the same price 90 K. I can’t imagine buying one of those over a Land Cruiser. Unlikely Toyota ever brings it back to the United States. If you want one better get one soon and be prepared to pay big money. If you want the best do you have to pay to play

You are absolutely right. That’s why I bought one pre announcement in late December with a nice discount. And yes I can attest to post announcement of it being discontinued, the order time the heritage model is longer and the dealer doesn’t want to discount them anymore.

Yeah I got mine back in December 2020 not long after the announcement. I’d been kicking it back and forth for a year, and decided to pull the trigger when I found out the new model would not be coming here. I actually got it a decent amount below sticker. The dealership I bought it from told me they had sold more LC’s that month than they had sold in the last three years lol.

@LoganNolag
@LoganNolag 3 года назад
It will never come back as a crossover. Land Cruisers are trucks pretty much by definition. The Land Cruiser isn't made for the US market. It is designed for less developed places and it isn't being discontinued in most of the world. It is only being canceled in the US due to poor sales. When the Land Cruiser is eventually refreshed it will still be a truck or at the very least something like the modern Range Rovers. Either way it will be a dedicated off roader. Whether they actually end up selling the new version in the US is questionable. Regardless the Lexus LX is literally a Land Cruiser with a better interior and because it is basically the same price there is very little reason to buy the current Land Cruiser except for nostalgia for the name. The LX already sells multiple times more than the Land Cruiser. Discontinuing the Land Cruiser will just increase sales of the LX further.

Yes, it is time for Toyota to bring us a fully capable but non-luxurious Land Cruiser for thousands and thousands less. To give you an idea, in other markets you can buy a Land Cruiser with a cloth interior, 4.0 V6, steel wheels and tailgate doors like an Econoline Van. Let the Lexus LX handle the luxury duties. We will see if the recent sales surge of Land Cruisers encourages Toyota to keep this flagship around. In terms of a much smaller and cheaper 'Land Cruiser', there is always the 2 door Prado which is already built alongside the 4Runner and GX. Give that Prado two-tone paint as well as a manual and call it the "Land Cruiser Classic". They could be on our roads competing with the base Wrangler before Ford ever gets that new Bronco in production. ;-)

I bought this truck because of the fact that it still largely analog, and tough and reliable as hell. The 2021 is the most perfected car since the 911. It has been around so long that 99% of the bugs and defects have been ironed out of it. A couple of things. You can turn off the power tailgate and make it fully manual with the push of a button. This is the way I leave it most of the time. It is true that it does not have all the latest electronic toys, but this again was part of the reason I went with it. It honestly has all the features you will actually need without all the reliability issues you get with newer trucks (See Defender etc). This truck is just built like a tank, and that is the greatest thing about it. In the end I went with the LC HE because I never wanted to need to buy another truck.

My bet is that of course they will bring it here. Demand for large 4 wheel off road SUV is huge and its profitable. They will use their production line to fill orders in their big markets of Australia, Middle East, China and Russia and then when that demand tapers off, they will be back. Forget the V8 though, the turbo V6 will replace it and yes, the “modern people” will get their apple play too.

You did a good job with this review. But you, like many, seem to miss the point of an LC: This is the truck you want to be in when you're in the middle of nowhere. @sly9263
@sly9263 Год назад
I don't think he missed the point... I think you missed his. Your use case of "being out in the middle of nowhere" can be equally fulfilled by a 4runner or GX rather than the Landcruiser which is literally double the price. The Landcruiser's pricing is what makes it a poor value proposition, not a lack of capability or reliability. The price of the Landcruiser is ostensibly high and that's why both it and the LX has continued to sell like crap here in the US. The LX has the same issue- there isn't $40k in value for that vehicle over the GX. The competition in the US for fullsize SUVs is much more stiff than the rest of the world because they sell so well here due to cheap gas. Also let's not act like having a Ford, GM, or Dodge fullsize SUV in the middle of nowhere is some major liability- they have more experience with V8s than Toyota does by light years.
@mattphillips1910
@mattphillips1910 Год назад
@@sly9263 I have owned every vehicle you mentioned in your reply, with the exception of an LX. You're simply incorrect. The TLC is absolutely much better than any of them. The only thing that even comes close off road is an older P38 Range Rover. I had two of those. They are amazing off road, until they break, which is often. So the TLC is a better choice all around. Taking a GX or a 4Runner as possibly viable options, you're right, sort of. But they are much smaller. So your gear is more limited. And to do the things that a stock TLC can do, one would have to modify both the 4runner and GX, which costs significant money. The good news is that for now, we are still free to have our own opinions, and we can agree to disagree. Cheers!
@sly9263
@sly9263 Год назад
@@mattphillips1910 if TLC was "as better" as you claim it would sell well... but it doesn't. That's why it's peer, large luxury SUVs outsell it by 5-10-20 times over. No, the TLC and LX are not radically bigger than a GX or 4runner. Go look at the actual seating dimensions and body length. In some cases its actually smaller seating dimensions. The TLC is closer in size to the GX or or a midsize than it is to every other large luxury SUV.
@mattphillips1910
@mattphillips1910 Год назад
@@sly9263 The TLC and 4 Runner are not comparable. The TLC and GX are comparable, but the GX is lacking in about 14 different ways, unless it's modified. I'm not sure what point you're trying to prove? Have you ever driven a TLC in serious off road conditions? I have. A lot. There is absolutely no comparison between modern TLC, 4 Runner and GX. (If we are talking about all stock.) Is a TLC too expensive? Well, probably yes. But in my experience, you get exactly what you pay for. I have walked Land Cruisers out of places that track-laying heavy equipment gets stuck in. I don't know what else to say. There really is no comparison. The only thing that I am aware of that ever came close is a P38 Range Rover. The reason Toyota stopped selling it in the US has nothing to do with price. It's all about the EPA regulations. It is one of the best selling vehicles in Australia. Gee, I wonder why? If you want a 4x4 that can carry people, tow a trailer, and perform off road reliably, there really isn't anything else out there, bone stock, that even comes close. Cheers!
@sly9263
@sly9263 Год назад
@@mattphillips1910 there is zero use case for 99.99999% of drivers to put their off-road vehicle in a place where "track laying heavy equipment gets stuck". You're using an edge case as a defense for why it's supposedly that much better than it's comparable peers- it's irrelevant. There is no value proposition for double the price any way you cut it. They sold poorly in the US and it ate into LX sales so they were just inbreeding sales. Australia has far less vehicle options in that market than we do.

What’s the difference between this and a Sequoia, other than $20-30k?
@icculus

Sequoia is larger and it probably isn’t as robust or high quality as the LC, and to me the LC looks way more upscale. It definitely doesn’t have the status of the LC.

Personal preference, but that basket is a joke on an $85k truck. Also increases the wind noise. Would prefer one low profile, if I bought the heritage, pulling it off the basket would be my first mod.

My 2003 Mercedes has it. This thing is an anachronistic overpriced pig at almost 6000 lbs. People talk like they're going to use these during the apocalypse, fantasy crap. First, people won't be going anywhere, they'll be sheltering in place. Second, there won't be a power grid or any fuel during an apocalypse, and this oinker gets 10 mpg combined with a tiny fuel tank. Good luck going anywhere.
