By the end of this video, if you haven't driven standard before, you should have a good idea as to what to expect when you jump in a manual car and try driving it.
If you would like to see some more advanced manual driving techniques, please let me know and I’d be happy to make some! Thanks for watching :)

Lol I have a pretty sick story of stalling my car.. I was at a T intersection where I needed to make a left turn into the main road from a backroad. There was kind of a lot of cars and I was waiting for a gap for like 5 minutes. I see a pretty small gap and I go for it. I guess I miscalculated how much gas I put in and I quickly let off the clutch and stalled right in front of the other cars. They all slow down and stop as I'm there in the middle of the road. I start it and try and quickly get out of the way and I stall it AGAIN when I try to get out. I look around and people see that I'm driving stick and they're kinda laughing at me lol. I start the car again and finally after like 45 seconds of being in the middle of the road get my car out of the way. Lol the people I was in front of wave at me and give me thumbs up LOL. My biggest fail ever.. And this was after driving manual for like 6 months.. I never stall and it was just a hella derp moment. oh well, I still

excellent video, the explanation of being able to choose where and when you want the power is excellent...keeping the engine at a higher rpm while maintaining your current or chosen gear is something you just can't do easily! I watched a bunch of these videos and honestly your's is the best, just relaxed and easy to understand without unnecessary complication.

I learned how to drive stick two years ago on my sister's new Scion xD. I practiced a bit in an empty parking lot and went on the road. I remember stalling 6 or 7 times in a row at a stop sign with traffic behind me trying to pull away. Luckily nobody honked and they understood what was happening. Now I work around cars and I have gained enough experience to do this successfully and smoothly thanks to numerous videos I watched like this. Not to mention, on some days, I'm the only one who knows how to at work.

Great video. At 30, I'm FINALLY learning how to drive one. You answered all the questions that I was curious about and you make it look fun as hell. I love this! One thing to the best moto young. Best way to keep your clutch as long as possible. All of my drives were manual. 1958 Morris Minor, 2 Sciroccos, 1997 Isuzu over 300,000 miles original clutch and 2011 Mini I own today. I rarely down clutch. Neutral is your best friend, especially at a stop! It disengages your clutch. Less engagement when not in use will save it. When I need to slow down....I put in neutral. Yep, when you do this, have to know where your gears are. Also, seriously! Never rest on the clutch with your hand while waiting, or changing!!!😊

You forgot to say the car will move even without pressing the gas as long as it's in a gear. To do this you just have to put 1 gear for eg, and as you stop pressing the clutch the car will move. So you can, for example, perfectly park your car without touching the gas. This is important becouse if you are in a red light, on 1st gear and drop all the pedals, the car will accelerate. Also, this is why you should press the clutch while breaking, as, if you don't, you will both accelerate and break your car at the same time. Anyway this was a pretty good video 👍 (Sorry for my bad English)
@francocirillo8236
@francocirillo8236 8 лет назад
It does this becouse the gear is still in contact with the transmission unless you press the clutch (don't know the English names of those parts but you know what I'm talking about)

@milanmastracci 9 лет назад
I've had a huge passion for cars ever since I was a little kid. When I was younger, my father owned 2 car washes and I'd get to see all of the new cars and he would teach me what they are. Then got into teaching me the basics of washing a car, some basics about the mechanical aspects of cars, and then it just took off from there :) All I can say is RU-vid has a lot to offer. There is tons of information out there, you just have to find it. When I was in University for Math, I would spend more time learning about cars than I did about my actual program...

A really older friend/uncle of mine had not driven standard for 5 years but have experience of more than 20 years with stick. Also the person who thought me to drive stick when i was 15. Funny thing is when i got lift from him using his sons car, he stalled on the the middle of busy intersection causing a chaos. Did not know 5 years of complete silence from driving standard can cause you you to forget your 20~ years of experience.

Milan I need your help. Your videos are great, but I am not sure what is the best way to use the clutch under hard acceleration. I often chirp the tires in second under hard acceleration so it's not smooth, but if I do a smoother 1-2 shift I feel like I am riding the clutch at a high rpm. Can you help?
@Just4frends
@Just4frends 7 лет назад
You should give it gas only on first gear , switching from 1 to 2 while accelerating will make your car rpm go up while passing in neutral , that way your power is abit up and your tires spin abit faster . So again , after accelerating in 1 st gear enough , just switch to second whiout accelerating , after you're in second gear than accelerate , don't do it while you're shifting. Hope this helps.

When going from R to D, do you have to come to a complete stop, like you would in an automatic? Or as long as you push the clutch, then switch, is it okay to go straight back to D? Full stop seems like common sense, but I'm not sure in this situation.

I've driven 4 cars that have been stick now, a Honda S2000, Focus SVT, a focus ST, and a 2016 Mustang GT. The s2000 and the SVT I feel were the easiest by far. In the mustang I was giving it too much gas at first so i was taking off too quick even spinning the wheels and I wasn't even past 1500 rpm, then I was giving it too little gas and it was shaking while moving slow but I did not stall it. Do Manual cars for the most part just shake and there is no getting around that or do I have to find a perfect medium between too much and too little gas?

The car will shake if you try to drive with engine rpm under idle. Use clutch and throttle actively and smoothly when going 0-5 mph. 1. gear is only for starting and precise parking maneuvers. Never change from 2nd. to 1st. unless you are actually stopping the car.

I just bought a 1994 Honda Civic Hatch and it's manual . I have a problem where I always put it into 1st and then the car jolts several times before going forward. What am I doing wrong ?

Can somebody help me so I recently had a new clutch installed on my 350z and it's super light and sensitive and the biting point is so low. And also in my level parkway when I'm in first with the clutch all the way in if I let of the brake the car moves foward a bit with the clutch all the way in! Is this normal?
