FX / Hulu 's The Bear Season 2 somehow elevated and escalated the beautiful tension and anxiety of Season 1, and now we're back for me with Season 3, but how does it hold up?
I dive into the first Three Episodes of Season 3 (Tomorrow, Next, and Doors) as they just dropped tonight June 26th and will be back tomorrow with episodes 4-7 and Friday to wrap out the season with 8-Finale.
If you enjoy this - Follow me for coverage on the rest of the season as well as Movie News and Reviews and Comic Book Reviews and News!
If you don't know what The Bear is - the synopsis is as follows:
A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he's used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother's suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family.
It was created by Christopher Storer (who writes and directs the first episode of this season and others I'm sure) and it stars
Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edibiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach , Abby Elliot , Lionel Boyce , Liza Colon-Zayas , Edwin Lee Gibson , Corey Hendrix , Matty Matheson ,Molly Gordon, Oliver Platt, Jon Bernthal and more in this staggeringly great cast.

Chef of 8 years here and The Bear is the most accurate, honest, and entertaining show that dives into this crazy, chaotic industry that I love. I've experienced almost everything depicted on screen, especially the variety of people you meet and work with. As crazy as they are, they are your family. I absolutely adore this show and the way they comment on how important mental health is. Thank you Chef Coy for these reviews!

I don't think I've ever been so genuinely surprised by a show as much as I have been by The Bear. I obviously heard of it a year or two ago, then decided to give it a shot in January of _this_ year. It isn't really my typical style of show which is why I waited so long, and there's so many shows that dominate the cultural zeitgeist at any given time that I can't watch them all, so I'm picky. But for whatever reason I gave it a shot and I was completely blown away. It is so outside my comfort zone but it is truly one of the best things I've ever seen. I'm almost always doing something else when watching TV but my eyes stay glued to the screen the whole time when I watch this show. Sometimes I finish an episode and immediately play it again. Every shot, every acting choice or music choice, all the dialogue feels so intentional, and masterful and congruent. Especially these early episodes in season 3, it just begs for complete focus. I haven't seen many shows that understand exactly what they are and how they work quite like this one. It has such a clear and distinct creative voice. I cannot wait to see how the rest of this season unfolds. I don't have enough any self control so I probably will binge watch it lol, but I'm fine with that because I know I'll rewatch this season several times.

Omygoodness the 1st episode left me mesmerized and stuck with so many emotions. That storytelling was so brave powerful and in a class by itself. It SPOKE VOLUMES without saying a lot. I couldn't get to the second episode because I'm still processing. Masterpiece.

I love everything about this series. My favorite thing is that the dialogue doesn't feel like a script. It always feels like you're in the middle of real conversations. And can we just talk about the editing? It just makes every scene so interesting. Thanks for reviewing The Bear. I wish more RU-vidrs would react to it!

The Bear is one my favourite modern shows. The first episode was so comfy and relaxing to watch and it was edited so well and good to Carmy's journey where he is now. Most of ep 2 we were with the crew in one room and the the dialogue was so good everybody bounces off each other so we'll and that line where Marcus say to Carmy, "take us there" was so powerful😢

I also joined this show in season 2 by word of mouth. I love how season 3 is kind of a previously on.... while adding to the story. Getting Tina's back story worked so well. Ayos directing was perfect. I'm so happy this show isn't going through the second/third curse. The acting, writing, directing is still on point and exciting. And while I love John Cena... why are we adding chaos into a already chaotic situation???

Cannot agree more about the stress I feel in this show with have done 20 years of front and back of house. This show just hits different for me and having this arena to put my passion into more elequent way . That’s why I’m always going to be in this arena it’s all geekdom to me and each presenter in my arena knows I hope how important they are to me

This is one of my favorite shows of all time. It conveys emotions and moods in a way I’ve never seen. The frantic nature and the long takes are incredible. I can’t keep my eyes away and after every episode I can’t wait to play the next. Dialog is some of the best too!

This show is a rollercoaster ride in the best way. It goes from light hearted fun moments to panic attack inducing anxiety in the blink of an eye but you can tell that's the intention that creators are going for and it's just so masterful.

Lol you know someone has worked in a restaurant if they respond to things you say with "heard". Also this show hits so much harder if you have worked in a restaurant it's true. During the dinner rush scenes in these episodes i literally got scared and cringed and felt a chill in my spine every time a plate dropped and shattered or when the dish washer cut himself on glass in one scene. I've lived through all of these things working in kitchens since I was 16 so i think I have some form of PTSD that these scenes triggered in me haha 11:24

What a fantastic show. If there's one show that shows the power of this medium and the impact it can have it is definitely this. As you said, the first episode was poetry, the 2nd was a play and the 3rd episode played like a symphony of chaos and passion! I LOVE THIS SHOW

Ah I only watched the first episode so far! Trying to savor every episode. I agree! There were some editing montages that felt almost like animation even though it was live action. It’s such a beautiful piece of artistry. The music was atmospheric also and so moving. When I saw the credits that it was Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, it made perfect sense. It’s so captivating, I barely looked anywhere else except my screen to catch every second of this show.

One critique for me is too much of the Faks... they were funny sprinkled in s2, but they've really leaned into them for comic relief this season just a little too much for my taste. Sometimes, they kind of took me out, and I had to come back into the scene. I'm only through ep5, and I'm looking forward to the 2nd half. I stumbled on The Bear last year and binged both seasons twice over the course of a few days. It's really a well done show. I like the way the music is like a character in the show, and even more this season.
@CoyJandreau
@CoyJandreau 5 дней назад
Yessss love the music as a character aspect. And yeah I could see the Faks being a bit much but I think as the show got more harrowing they tried to find more levity to balance , totally get ya tho

One thing I thought about when watching this episode is I wonder if that head chef that was so cruel to carmy was told about Mikey and if he dropped that tough boss attitude even a little to go easy on him or tell him it was okay to leave or whatever. Even though we've only seen that character a few times now I am genuinely curious if he is actually a decent human being but just pushes his chefs to be better all be it in a overly harsh manner or if he's really just that mean spirited. In the same way carmy wanted to hear "good job" from Mikey I wanna hear one nice thing come from that guy's mouth lol
