Phil talks about early influences and attempts to remember a couple of tunes from way back! At some point, poor light was almost stopping play! This video is dedicated to the much missed and highly influential English guitarist Nic Jones. If you see any of his recent (lovingly mastered) CD compilations, I would urge you to buy. Not forgetting of course, the classic 'Penguin Eggs' from which 'Planxty Davis' was lifted.

As already said, besides your lovely playing, you must never be without that guitar. It has a tone I doubt you’ll match. A treasure.

Many people don't know that after the CD " Penguin Eggs " another new CD with live performances has been produced thanks also some Italian friends that sent tapes of live performance to Nic's wife.The title of this CD is " In Search of Nic Jone". I am one that long time friends and I am proud that many old & new fans still appreciate Nic' music.

Incredible sounds. I love the English style, vocal and words. The tone of that guitar is amazing even on RU-vid it comes through very clearly. Beyond compare.

☹️ haven't picked up my guitar in years... Can't find the inspiration to learn anymore. I watch this and it fills me with warmth and then I'm left feeling blue that I'll never be able to play it.

Just lovely - great tone and playing. Massive fan of Nic Jones. I'm mostly an electric player, but recently giving time to resetting myself, and learning how to play bass, and folk... like this - if I could ever play half as well, I'd be happy.

I'm ashamed to say I only discovered Nick Jones today after hearing Candee-i-o played on the radio. Got straight on to YTube and found you. I am in awe of your amazing guitar skills - my greatest regret is leaving it so late in life to start playing - I will definitely not live long enough to be this good! - Marian

I am absolutely smitten with your playing and singing, Phil. There are few folk singers/guitarists that I have heard that I would put up there with Jones, Carthy, Foley, etc. but you make that short list in my humble opinion. Is that an Orsino or Falstaff? Too dark for me to make out. I own a 1980 Falstaff:) Fyldes rock and so do you! Zac

@malcolmpaine Hi Malcolm. Thanks for your comment. The tuning is CGCGCD (C with an add 9). If you go to my website there are some basic shapes shown (should you need them to get started). With regard to a tab; because I make my living from music, I make a small charge of £2 per tab (easily done through PAYPAL) and I can send you one if you message me with a private e-mail address. That was ridiculously good and the guitar sounds fantastic! What gauge strings did you put on for being that low? Do you have a tab for the Nic Jones track? I discovered 'Penguin Eggs' a couple of years ago but it's hard to find tabs. Kev :0)

Hi Phil, Do you use light or medium string? ALso take a look of the video I posted for Nic Jones produced from his concert held in Italy before his tragic car accident. We still all miss this Great Guy.

Have faith Saffsgrandad; in my experience, if you have reached a certain degree a proficiency, the majority of people will be enjoying what you are doing too much to worry about how Phil Hare or Bert Jansch would be playing the same tune at that moment.
