Phil says: This is my collective interpretation of three Celtic tunes: 'Planxty Irwin' is a well-known O'Carolan harp tune from Co. Meath, Ireland, whilst the two reels that follow are 'Miss McLeods Reel - a tune of Scottish origin, much loved by Ceilidh bands everywhere - and 'McGough's Farewell', which is the shards of a (unknown) reel learnt by osmosis, conjoined with a B-part that I made up myself, and wholly titled as a tribute to good friend and former band colleague Dave McGough, who left Birkenhead, Merseyside to live in Waterford, Ireland back in the '90's. Here the guitar is tuned CGDGAD which allows you to move between three keys, and has voicings not dissimilar to a harp.

Thank you very much for that surprising moment. Last time I met Pierre Bensusan, one of the best guitar player I have ever seen covering traditional Irish stuffs... My "musical community" is enlarged, even though my knowledge and technics would probably need years to reach... what you've just spread so easily.

For all those who want to know the guitar is a 'Catfish Keith' parlour guitar made by English luthier Tony Revell. The guitar is now owned by my daughter.

Interesting what you say about the tuning because I thought it sounded very harp like on first listening. Absolutely loved it of course, thanks for posting.

Beautifully done, Phil. The reels had my old foot a-tapping. Five stars from me as well.

Just decided to try DADGAD again and you are an inspiration. When I listen to players like Kotke and Emmanuelle, I want to hang it up because I will never play like I want to but your playing is mesmerizing and makes me want to practice!

I'm not sure if he makes them anymore, but he has a workshop in Newtown, Powys and I'm sure would be amenable to offers! All the very best.
