Hello everyone, and welcome back to Scary Interesting. In this video, we’re going to go over two incredibly creepy, unsolved disappearances. In the second one, you will think you know what’s going on and that the story is cut and dry, but there is something found at the end, which completely changes everything, and it is horrifying. As always, viewer discretion is advised.

I've been climbing in that 50/50 flat area where Carl disappeared approximately 40 times. The thing that must never be underestimated about Shasta is its incredible size and scale. Understand that he was camped on a vast snow field of immense proportions. My bet is this man traversed sideways, which is normal from 50/50 flat, either left or right. This takes you to the natural gully that you would ascend upward. But what if he didn't realize when he came to the path upward and continued to traverse? The east side of 50-50 has more skiers than hikers so the path to cut uphill isn’t clear because of the ski tracks combined with the vastness of the gentle gully. In the dark he could possibly have gone way past the route turn up, and then misinterpreted the meaning of what he found way off course and wound up traversing out of Avalanche Gulch and further wound up going around the mountain until deciding to descend out of confusion, further east than ski bowl. He could have then perished in the vast unpopulated forest southeast of Shasta after going way around and then giving up and heading downhill.

That would make sense. If he died of exposure in the forest it’s quite possible that his body was consumed by the wildlife.

I fear that Leah overshared with one or more of those men at the cafe and one of them is responsible for her disappearance. I am from the American South and sadly people here are often too friendly and too open with strangers. Leah probably told them she had run off to find herself and was all alone and that got one of them to thinking of something sinister.

Good point, I grew up in a tougher area so I learned to be pretty guarded. When I was traveling as a young female I knew not to be so trusting of others. But I have since lived in the south and people sure do talk and share information. Makes more sense as to why she was possible more open. The area can give you a false sense of safety too because of the hippie vibes a lot of towns have there.

@@JustinWilliams-ed2ug But the money and the diamond ring were left in the car. She could have just sold the ring somewhere along that journey through the states instead of hiding it in a crashed car. Why would she make it look like someone lived inside the crashed car for a while? And wouldn't it have been better to smear around even just a little bit of her own blood if she wanted to fake her death so elaborately? And she would have to have known about that trick that makes a car go without a driver - she also likely would have put back the removed part afterward to make it look more realistic.

I once got lost in the woods in the winter in Canada when I was 12 or 13. I had been hiking and lost track of time. Before I knew it, it was completely dark and I didn't even have a flashlight. I started trying to retrace my steps (I hadn't followed any trails and I was pretty deep in the woods) but it is nearly impossible in the woods in the pitch black darkness. It was pretty mild for the winter. There was snow on the ground but it started to rain (freezing rain) which made things even more miserable. I eventually came upon an old dilapidated shack. I wanted to go inside to get out of the rain but when I got to the door I could hear an animal moving around inside and decided to stay outside. Shortly afterwards I heard wolves howling in the distance and decided to climb a tree and stay put for the night. I was already lost and didn't want to get even more lost or stumble on a pack of wolves in the dark (they say they leave humans alone but I didn't want to test that theory). In the morning (after a sleepless night balancing on a tree branch and getting pelted with freezing rain) I set out to try to find my way out of the woods. I soon heard what sounded like cars driving on a highway and ran towards the sound, thinking that soon I'd be home free. Unfortunately, it was just a river. I had never noticed how much rushing water sounded like cars cutting through the air while driving down a highway before that moment. This cruel joke happened to me multiple times that day and became very frustrating, to say the least. Eventually I remembered I had heard or read somewhere that rivers lead to civilization and decided to follow one of the rivers and see where it went (in the worst case, I knew wouldn't be wandering in circles). Eventually I came to a small bridge over the river which lead to a trail. Following the trail, I found 4-wheeler tracks and followed them. Eventually I could hear a 4-wheeler and found a hunting camp. I told the people at the camp what had happened and they took me back to the highway in a pickup truck. I recognized the area and was able to direct them to my house. It turns out I had walked more than 20 km through the woods (That's 20 km if I were traveling in a straight line. I'm sure I hadn't walked in a straight line) and was lucky I didn't end up going deeper and deeper into a huge forest. Anyway, it's very easy to get disoriented and lost in the woods. I am fortunate that I decided to stay put overnight and wait until morning to try to find my way out. I also never got to a point where I was worried about finding my way out, although, in hindsight, I probably should have been. Anyway, my advice to anyone who ever finds themselves lost in the woods overnight is to stay put until morning, try to stay positive, and try to find a river to follow.

Hey everyone! A quick note about story two. The woman in the story is described as having blue eyes. In the picture, it doesn't seem that way. However, on her missing person's report, that's what's listed. The pictures available of her seem to either show very dark eyes or very light eyes, so maybe it's due to some photography weirdness. In the second story, many mechanics wear nitrile gloves as a PPE&C/OSH protocol so won't leave finger prints. Those finger prints are from someone else who has not had their finger prints taken through past criminal conviction or conditions of employment (CSIS/FBI) stuff. That's the problem. Also, while it is possible to remote start a vehicle, I am not aware of any means of being able to remotely engage Drive and *accelerate* a vehicle simply by removing a "cover off the starter". Someone needs to press the brake to move into Drive and not open the door of Jeep because that will engage the parking brake instantly. That's whole lot of "no-way".

Im guessing that no trace of Carl was ever found because after he set out, he was hit with another episode of gut cramps and since there were no bushes or trees, mhe had to wander a ways off to not be seen squatting by anyone on the trail. And either on the way out or on the way back, he found a crack, one that he and his bel9ngings are still in today. It's amazing how small of a space a grown human person can slip into, especially if theyre walking all relaxed and step right into it. And it would be something searchers could easily step over time and time again, especially if there was snow on the surface. A crack 18 inches wide would be all that's needed for someone to fall however deep it goes or until they hang up on something and if theyre knocked out, they wouldn't hear anything. Or if they were awake and shouting but 20 feet down, the sound would've carry hardly at all away from that spot above ground. Someone could have walked 2 feet to one side and the same crack have narrowed to 6 inches by then and be no danger but they could miss it, or even see it and glance down either not seeing him or thinking it was too narrow for a grown man. Honestly, i believe this is where a lot of people who go missing without a trace in the mountains or rocky country are- these small fissures that go unnoticed due to snow or overgrowth of vegetation (those might never be seen at all ever) or even other rocks tumbling around the top.

I live on the edge of a forest in WV, and I had a similar experience happen to me as a kid. I was hiking with my dad and I stepped on and fell into a hole from an old mineshaft that was only 13” wide. It was covered with brush, so I didn’t notice it until I was in it and falling. Luckily, I only fell about 12-15 feet and landed on a pile of dirt and dead leaves. It happened so fast that I didn’t even have time to yell out. My dad walked another 200 feet or so before he realized I wasn’t behind him anymore, so he turned back and started yelling for me. I wasn’t hurt or anything, so I yelled back and he found me somewhat quickly and got me out. He was as white as a sheet because he thought I’d just disappeared out of thin air. I still hike quite often, but I often think about that incident and how, if I’d been knocked unconscious or wedged in such a way that I couldn’t expand my chest to scream, I may have never been found. It’s a scary thought.

I have a similar theory, it just doesn’t involve foul play. The death of her parents so close together was too much for her to cope with rationally. This would explain the erratic, whimsical behavior. I think she was in a severely distressed mental state, crashed her jeep, couldn’t cope with the incident in a rational way, so she camped out in the jeep for a couple of days before she wandered aimlessly into the wilderness and died from exposure somewhere. The human psyche is very fragile and it doesn’t take much to send someone beyond the brink, especially in solitude.

@AJL223 Fair point really...l did consider that Leah had a mental breakdown from all of the trauma she went through including her accident. That is the simplest explanation. Leah had an accident, tried to survive and then wandered off and died of exposure. The clothes hanging from the trees are what really throws me off. Was she hanging clothes out to dry? Let people know she was down there? The clothes are the one thing that doesn't really fit with my theory that Leah took off intentionally, or she was murdered.

The second story is a classic case of someone going through a mental breakdown with periods of manic episodes. She was on a roller coaster of emotions and on a manic high when she met the two men at the mall. I believe there was a third man that man number one hadn’t seen before but the second man had some connection with. And the prints in the jeep were the prints of that third man who was sketch drawn. More than likely the mechanic man tampered with the engine while the third man subdued Leah and staged the crash of the vehicle. What the intentions of the two were is where it gets thin. Human/sex trafficking is the most logical explanation to the ending of the story.
@cloudsn

I agree except why wouldn't whoever tampered with the engine have taken the cash? I can understand not taking the ring, as jewelry can be traced plus they might not have taken the time to search the car thoroughly, but cash is an easy grab. That's not really how DNA works. The police don't automatically have access to the archives of private companies. Relatives' DNA goes vague very quickly- various types of cousins, half siblings, uncles etc can have the same level of similarity to you, so that may leave them with hundreds of suspects. And they can only get a warrant for DNA sampling if they have plausible suspicion. Your only hope is that the guy committed another crime since then and got caught. And still, it was trace DNA. I lived in the town in the valley below Mt. Shasta, called Redding. It's not a very pleasant place. It used to be a tourist town because it's so well positioned (there's the bay, the mountains, and the redwoods all right there) but they didn't decide to build anything there, and the other towns around did (like universities and a Six Flags), so tourists stopped coming. Redding now makes money primarily by accepting convicted felons (primarily sex offenders) after they're released from prison, leading to there being a disproportionately large population of violent criminals, many of whom are homeless and camp out in the forests surrounding the area. When I lived there the statistic was that it was the 5th most dangerous city in the US for women and adolescents under sixteen. So it doesn't surprise me that Mt. Shasta felt eerie and unsafe.

You can tell they’ve tried to appeal to tourists driving by on Hwy 5 but it feels like it’s been bypassed as the hotels and inns are dated and a bit run down. Strange place. I believe Mt. Shasta has one or more trap falls. Where a large flat rock hinges into a cavern below. A person steps on the loose side of the rock and falls through like a trapdoor and then the rock settles back to a flat position. A search team could easily walk right past it. There was one in the state park in north Alabama that a bunch of campers had jammed open with cut logs. The story was that a kid fell in but his family saw it happen and got him out but there were a bunch of animal bones at the bottom.

In story 2, if one of the men at the bar was an ex military mechanic, he would have general knowledge to sit apart from his accomplice, the other man, and would know that having 2 separate stories would very well throw a wrench in the search. Similarly, I think that a strong description of a 3rd man and the prints not returning anything in databases might suggest that there is a 3rd man that would not fit the description of "barry" but the Barry figure would have either been given instructions as to how to set up the engine, or was asked by the military mechanic to put his finger prints there knowing he has no criminal background and was never entered into any databases. I think the 3rd man is the key to the case and military man and Barry at minimum are accomplices, if not all three of the men.

For story one, this case is preventable if only they follow the good advice of not letting anyone go alone when hiking, especially if the person feels unwell. This is not the first time I've ever heard someone mysteriously disappear from a mountain without any trace & anything could have happened. In story two, the 2nd man is indeed suspicious, but what if he was just there to give misdirection to the police? If you're thinking about what happened to the engine & the whole "car crash without a body", it really looks like someone wants to fake a death as an alibi, either to hide a disappearance, change identity, or murder. I also wondering about the cat's fate though. Well, the cat could probably just walk to the forest because it's an animal after all, but did they also get any trace of it? Curious case indeed.

One thing I think people often forget when it comes to crimes, disappearances, and cases that are unsolved is that it tends to let the brain go wild with possibilities, which more than not results in outlandish and irrational theories. People seem to think that just because a case isn't solved in a timely matter, that's to their liking, They automatically jump to the cause or culprit being diabolical, paranormal, and/or supernatural. When In reality, 9.9/10, the objective truth of what played out, and the explanation behind what actually happened is anything but paranormal or supernatural, which imo kind of goes without saying, seeing that the paranormal and supernatural do not exist. It's quite shocking to me how anyone, when looking at a disappearance case, could not only jump from the possibility of them having an accident, getting hurt, running out of food or water, to something more paranormal. But the people who skip those rational and most likely explanations altogether and go straight to alien abduction or being eaten by a bigfoot or some other made-up creature. Im not kidding when I say that I don't know how those naive, uneducated people can function in everyday life, being that unintelligent and gullible. Ignorance is bliss. Ignorance is death.

I think it's often the other way around, people who believe in Bigfoot or alien abduction want to find examples of it and they don't care who they hurt

i always like to say the true BC is before cameras. if it can't be repeated experimentally or it's a phenomena that hasn't been observed before, pics or it didn't happen. stuff that's crazier than fiction exists in real life (see: octopi and jellyfish, and basically any nonmammal). ghosts are boring compared to things that actually exist

People just don't like to think all it can take for even the best adventurers pr hikers is one mistake. One misstep to have them die

Law of parsimony is important to keep in mind in cases like this: the simplest explanation is most often the correct one.

I absolutely love this channel I’m glad I found it. I was a long time fan of Mr Nightmare, which I still love, but I do know a lot of those stories are embellished or just made up and sent as creepy pastas. It’s nice to watch true stories while still keeping an aura of creepiness to them, which they genuinely are. Keep up the good work 💪.

It seems to me that when people who have lived in an area for thousands of years say that a place is bad they should be believed.

Yep, some places are truly cursed. I know of 1 such place, and that area is constantly plagued with negativity and bad outcomes. I rarely visit that area. And I never stay longer than necessary.

Former ase master tech and el paso texas death investigator here… a plastic relay cover breaking off in a fly off the cliff rollover, pretty likely… Getting a car to 40mph on the starter alone, 0% chance… cars, with a manual and nss bypassed top out at like 3-5mph… Maybe if it were downhill you could reach 40, but then you wouldnt need the starter.. Pushing a car by the tires, especially a jeep, is way easier and doesnt leave a mark on the paint were normal people push. But again it would top out at 5mph unless downhill… but if it was a downhill road, there would be a lot less questioning of the relay I’d wager… And on top of all of that, nobody would live in the car after the accident for days if it were pushed off the cliff… That stuff is a red herring. I can’t say what happen for sure, but the relay is a non starter… pun intended

For the record, we called ourselves death investigators… in crashes that lead to prosecution we were the mechanics that pulled apart the wrecks and recovered airbag computers and abs modules… it would likely be a guy in my old job to find the broken relay… a guy, with no degree, no engineering background… just a guy really good with tools…
