Broke so many records, created new records, dominated for generations, inspired generations, and ushered in the golden era of tennis. Every member of the big three are tennis legends and GOATs but Federer is the only one who I would consider a sporting icon.

People (Federer haters) call this a weak era, but back then Hewitt was considered a wonderkid, who was holding his own against Sampras and Agassi. It was Federer who then made Hewitt look weak

I waited up to watch this game. We woke up the entire household & our neighbors besides because we were cheering like crazy. We thought surely Rusty would take the second set but one can imagine the euphoria when Roger pocketed the 2nd set and the third was an emphatic "I am the boss" moment. Thank you for showcasing this match. I must say Roger said his most memorable match was also a double bagel one. He lost to a kid named Reto Schmidli when he was just 10. Imagine the great Roger Federer telling the world about that!!

Wow at these early tennis days, the faster court suited Roger game perfectly. When they slowed the court down, it also cripple a lot of player ability to come to the net effectively. This Fed on the faster court was unbeatable.

Never understood how Hewitt had such a succesful career. He didnt seem to have any real weapons. Mentally strong and made few unforced errors, that's about it.

Djokovic has more records but nobody has reached peaks like Federer. His 2006 season and his 2007 win at the AO (no sets dropped) are other examples among many. he could reach the highest levels in Tennis.

Hewitt,Nalbandian,Roddick,Blake,all these guys from the early 00's was more of a player than all of the next gen players we have today,Alcaraz is only one different and Sinner still have a lot to prove.

I remember this game, i stayed up at night to watch it and i just hoped it would be a match at all, in that moment of time federer was so much better than anyone else that i had a doubt he would become a boring winner of everything. Some people say it was a weak era and it probably was to an extent...but maybe he was simply so much better than everyone else and its all his merit. I've never seen anyone apparently as unbeatable as he was ever since...

Hewitt is the same age as Federer. He won 30 tournaments, officially retired in 2016, but only won four tournaments after 2007. Marat Safin is also the same age. He retired in 2012. Andy Roddick is a year younger than Federer, he won 30 tournaments and retired in 2012. Federers greatest accomplishment is his ability to adapt. All of these guys were great players, but they just couldnt deal with the slowing down of the courts. Federer won Wimbledon when it was still the era of the great serve and volleyers. He won Paris during Rafas reign of terror. Yeah, Novak has all the records now, but he didnt have to compete in basically two eras, only in the era of similar surfaces, if you want to call it that. Roger being able to stay relevant late in his 30ies when his big rivals from the youth all had retired 10 years ago, is just truly outstanding.

The 03-07 forehand was scary and scariest from 04 to 05 in my opinion, after that it was still great until 2012 but it was less deadly and more prone to errors

Of course djoko win more today, but you just have to understand that federer was the one who level up the tennis and bring player like djoko and nadal and the next gen to be better. He was the first of this era, the first true king of tennis after 2000´s and that s just history. His style a brand. You can’t erase it.

Well 2003-2007 is inarguably the weakest era in Tennis when Federer dominated to beat many unseeded players to win his titles like Baghdatis, Gonzalez, Philopoussis etc. All the three mentioned players were not even in top 30 which reduced the competition to a complete joke then. Then Federer beat a 36 year old Agassi at US Open in 2005 who was in the tail end of his career and on the verge of retirement; Agassi was not even in top 25 then. He beat an erratic Safin in 2004 Australian open who was not even in top ten then. Hewitt was his next scalp in Australian open 2005 and he was well past his best and the only slam final he made in Federer's era. His other opponent in some slam finals was Roddick who was a top 5 player but Federer's bunny with a lop sided H2H 21-3. That a clay court specialist like Nadal was able to make consecutively the finals of Wimbledon in 2006 and 2007 shows the level of competition then. Federer struggled to beat Nadal even in 2007; he could have easily lost that match as he won two sets only by tie breaks. This was the match where he infamously shrieked to switch off the hawk eye machine. Then Nadal by wallloping Federer in Roland Garros, clay court Masters and even some hard court tournaments regularly gradually gained confidence and evolved to become an all court player. He gained a mental edge by beating Federer repeatedly. This acquired the proportion of a mental block in due course that Federer lost the match to Nadal before he even stepped to the court. Both Novak and Andy became profesionals only in 2005 and were teens in this weakest era of tennis. Even Andy had the measure of Federer and beat him repeatedly in many master series tournaments. Between 2003-2007, Federer won a total of 12 slams most of them competing against weakest players except for Nadal in Roland Garros and Novak in 2007 US open who was just 19 then but ranked in top 5. In 2008 the decline of Federer started and he wás bludgeoned by Novak at Australian open in straight sets. Then at Roland Garros, he was hammered by Nadal in what was a complete humiliation. Federer then claimed that Wimbledon was his turf and thereto ate humble pie outplayed by Nadal. His only slam victory was US open against Andy. In 2009 Australian open Federer easily beat his bunny Roddick, had an extra day off, but still lost to Nadal in five sets who had the earlier day had a marathon match against Verdasco which went over five and half hours. At Roland Garros, an unseeded Soderling, shocked Nadal in the fourth round and opened up the draw. Federer should thank him for enabling to win this title at least once. At Wimbledon, Nadal never participated and Federer beat Roddick by fluke and on the verge of defeat losing the first set 6-3 and down 2-6 in second set tie break. He then performed a Houdini act to scrape through and finally won the marathon 16-14 in the fifth set. In 2010 Australian open he beat Andy a top 5 player. That was the only grand slam he won that year. 2011 was the dawn of Novak era and Federer paled into insignificance. 2012 Wimbledon was his another slam beating Andy and then he went into a shell. Between 2013-2016 Federer failed to win a single grand slam. Then in 2017 after a back surgery and recuperation which coincided with Nadal's lay off today Federer won Australian open beating Nadal - leveraging the slump of Novak due to elbow issues. He again beat an unseeded injured Cilic at Wimbledon 2017 and then at 2018 Australian open. That ended his grand slam story. Federer trails 16-24 against Nadal and 23-27 against Novak. Till 2016, Federer was a more humiliating 10-23 against Nadal. It was only between 2017-2019, he beat Nadal six times. He trails Nadal 1-3 in Australian open and 0-7 in Roland Garros. Even in hard courts, he is just 11-9 with most of his wins in indoor hard courts. Against Novak, Federer trails 1-4 in Australian open and 1-3 in Wimbledon (losing all finals). It is 3-all in US open and 1-all in Roland Garros. It is Novak who has beat top seeded players to win most of his grand slam titles. Out of 24 grand slams, he beat Nadal 4 times, Federer 4 times, Andy 6 times. His other opponents were Tsonga - top 10 player Theim, grand slam champion and top 5 player in Australian open Anderson in 2018 Wimbledon who was fourth seeded then. Novak beat Nadal in semi finals. Delpotro - top five player Berretini - 4th seeded at Wimbledon Ruud - 2nd seeded at Roland Garros (he beat Alcaraz in semis) Tstispas in Roland Garros and Australian open who was in top 5 then Meddy twice at Australian open and US open - top 3 player then. Kyrgois is the only unseeded player he beat at Wimbledon. So this proves conclusively that Novak beat quality players to win most of his grand slams and busts the weak era theory. Novak is dominating the next generation at 36 in the tail end of his career which has never happened in tennis. Unlike Federer, Novak has a better H2H against all his key rivals. It is a sheer waste of time to even compare records as there is no contest. I challenge any Federer fanatic to counter this with logic and statistics. All they will do is to bring up subjectives like peak/prime blah blah. 😂😂😂😂😂
