Deadlink has been sitting in my Steam library for a while. I regret not picking it up sooner, because it's a really fun and intense arena shooter inspired by games like Quake and DOOM Eternal.

In this video I try to demonstrate the benefit of playing games like Deadlink on a controller with gyro enabled. Even though the controller setting still indicates aim assist is turned ON, both my RS and Gyro are set to act as mouse input, so I'm actually playing with NO aim assist whatsoever. It's pure manual aim as if you're playing with a mouse. Please note that the recording also tanks the frame rate a bit. Normally the game stays above 60 fps during most situations.
Hopefully the developers will consider implementing gyro natively into the game. It would make interacting with things like the menu and in-game items that much easier.

Never heard of this game, looks pretty rad. I'm glad that a fast paced fps is possible to play properly on the steam deck with gyro. The gyro dampening is such a useful feature too.

I've been using the flick stick template for deadlink. I agree gyro is a great option for those that want more precision. I hope more games take advantage of it. Great way to play fps games on steam deck.

Been wanting to get this game for awhile and it recently got put into a humble bundle with other boomer shooters. I've been enjoying this game so much so far.

Can you try CSGO on the deck with the gyro? CSGO is thought to be a game that is only possible to be played on mouse and keyboard (which I have been doing for the last 15 years) but the way you play and aim in these games is absolutely insane. P.S - Not sure if you are into esports titles like CSGO, but if you would grind though the ranks on CS with the way you aim with a controller, your yt channel would take off.

Thanks so much! That's very tall praise. Not so sure if I'm pro level material, but I did win a few games of CS:GO Deathmatch on my Steam Deck, which is kind of crazy when you think about it. This would never have been possible without gyro. I'm considering waiting for CS2 to release this summer to make a video. My hope is that with the extra eyeballs focussed on that game around the time it comes out I'll be able to reach a wider audience to expose to gyro aiming.

have you heardd of flickstick? this can be combines with the gyro to quickly turn 180 in an instand or 90 degrees left or right. the rightstick is locked to the horizontal axis and becomes a 1:1 translation ot your 360 turns. you then need the gyro to be always on and to aim vertical becouse you can no lnonger do so with the stick. this requires a gyro pause button because the gyro drifts on the y axis alot. with just rightstick aiming combined with gyro you dont need an gyro of button because you can correct the camera with the stick. Flickstick was first nativly implemented on fortnite, then deatloop and boomerang. the newest counterstrike go and a few other shooters also have it. This was made by a developer named jibbsmart. You can also implement this yourself with steaminput or rewasd.

Thanks for the comment. I’m familiar with flickstick. I think it’s a great alternative to traditional RS aim, especially for new players, but as someone who’s been playing FPS games the old way since Halo CE back in 2001 I’m too set it my ways to make the switch. I’ve tried it a few times and even after hours of practice I still naturally try to move RS as a camera. It not that big of a improvement for me in terms is speed. I play with a high look sense anyway, and though the 180 degree flick turn is really instant and theoretically even superior to mouse movement, I find it more disorienting than helpful.

@@zerocore_Thanks for the reply. I found flickstick more intuative just because it is 1:1. a high lookstick camera sensitivity is not working for me because the game is incharge of the camera instead of me. but everyone should play the way they do best. just do what works for you.

Not the best FPS for Steam Deck imo. Still, surprisingly adequate gameplay.

can you explain how you are recording the screen of the deck. i only though this was possible when you dock it? I am planning on making a few gyro video''s with my deck but dont have an extra monitor to dock it to and record that screen in my software.

My method requires a PC or laptop and a stable (WiFi) connection. You use Steam Link on your PC to stream gameplay from your Deck and use OBS to record said stream.

@@caleasthetic no steam link is a free app that you can download on your PC, Mac or Smart TV to stream your gameplay for the Deck to that device.

@@zerocore_ thanks for the quick reply. really helpfull. i hope you keep making more gyro and stewamdeck related content. what method of gyro are you using. always on (with stick touch). on ADS only or something like gyro ratcheting or flick stick. I primeraly use flick stick. but thanks to a youtuber named Directinput i am not trying gyro ratcheting with two joycons ad rewasd. I am still not as fast with gyro ratcheting opposed to Flicks stick, but i am getting better.

@@caleasthetic I play 'always on' and use the RS with a relatively high sense to do full camera movement. I tried flick stick, but actually flicking is more disorienting than helpful to me. The rotational camera movement is also a bit of a mind*ck for me, so I don't think I'll ever be moving to FS.
