A Period piece slow burn can definitely be an acquired taste but is this one for fans of those types of films? Let’s discuss The Devil’s Bath.
Here is some info about the channel:
Greeting ghouls and ghosts! Our names are Jason and Kali, and we are the horror couple of your dreams- or nightmares! Jason has been a film nut for over 30 years, and Kali has a hyper-fixation with horror and slashers. Together we spend most of our waking life watching films and obsessing over them. We record movie reviews and discussions weekly, and love watching and talking about both lesser known and popular films in the horror genre. Occasionally we also review comic books, video games, television series, and novels. Additionally, we also enjoy making short horror videos. This film was so well done. I'm kind of in awe of it. I'm no historian, but it looked and felt very authentic to 1750. You are right there with Agnes in the monotony and isolation and hopelessness that it will ever change. And you can't even kill yourself because the hell they taught you to believe in is even worse. The only way out is the unspeakable. So fucked up.

In "The Crucible", as in this film, there never was any supernatural events; just lies,hysteria, & mass neurosis.

I really liked this movie. The acting was amazing. It reminded me of a mixture of The Nightingale, Hereditary and Midsommar lol

I'm sure most of the things that are confusing you have to do with their culture during that time. Most European cultures kept very strong pagan influences and superstitions even when they practiced Christianity, mostly due to the fact that hundreds of years prior they were forced to convert- or die. There's some really great videos on here that talk about that subject, I would suggest checking them out. A lot of times people, even non pagans, use body parts and blood of dead people as wards against evil and illness and to even bring good luck. Maybe they had that be such a prominent scene to show the madness and bloodlust of the time, or maybe to illustrate how insane society was.

Drinking a freshly beheaded criminals blood was supposed to be a cure for epilepsy...but it's also different from region to region...it can cure illness but basically ensures good luck and fortune....as a European I can safely say in the Middle Ages and beyond our superstitions are bonkers! It's like the hanged man's hand...bonkers...just to add I thought my German mother in law was bad! X

It's truly one of the saddest movies I've seen. I'm lucky my mother in law "begged for a child," or I wouldn't have my wonderful husband. The pain of your whole life being about religion, being told your only value is procreation, and being forced to marry a man who obviously doesn't want you has got to be excruciatingly painful. Then, being told your only option to avoid hell because your life is such shit is to kill a child and be forgiven is over the top insane. Don't tell me the mother in law didn't know about her son. I know my father in law's family did and didn't do anything to warn off my mother in law to marry him. And the town monsters left Lenz's body with the animal carcasses, that's unforgivable.

This movie is nothing like The Witch aside from it being a period piece. This isn’t horror, this isn’t supernatural and it makes The Witch seem fast paced
@lucygresham3012
@lucygresham3012 13 дней назад
@kena322 why do you class it Supernatural? I'm curious...I definitely found horror in it...I guess it's subjective ...nonetheless I loved every second xx
@kena322
@kena322 13 дней назад
@@lucygresham3012I said it IS NOT supernatural. The Witch is horror, it’s supernatural. The Devil’s Bath is neither. Read my comment again, I don’t see any similarities in the two films beyond it being a period piece. The only horror elements is at the very beginning and at the very end. Between that is 2 hours of character study and drama. Good for you and everyone else who enjoyed this somehow. I just hate the comparison to The Witch, a way more enjoyable movie to me

I like the movie but I don’t like it as a horror film if that makes any sense. If I was going to recommend it to anyone I wouldn’t even sell it as a horror. Anja Plaschg made me a fan with her performance though. She really carried the movie and made me stick around to finish it. I would’ve probably shut it off if not for her.

I think we put too much pressure on what we think the word horror in relation to genre means to a film. This is a tragic and deeply disturbing film. What is happening here is horrifying and truly a horror to live through. I get what you are saying though because the film doesn’t intend to scare the audience, just unsettle them, which is more impactful for me personally.

I'm in the minority here how is Utah fan but I don't stick myself to any kind of genre and I like to be entertained but not I like to surprise I had no idea what this one was about I just saw the title and clicked on it I'm not a fan of indie for horror I never heard that phrase till i watched the reviewers tonight and like I said not knowing anything about it I instantly love this movie was intense and if you do a little more research Ashley Google the names that they give you at the end you will see that this lady was interrogated like three times so there's a hole in her own words the whole backstory on her that you could have looked up and also there's a lady who does and it's you the two directors which is very informative they couldn't use that I don't know any of you people at all I just saw the movie like that and then want to see what other people thought and it's interesting to watch you different kind of reviewers reviews for me so far that's why I don't watch reviews on nobody care for them but if I like a movie I like to research the movie after the fact that I don't know anything about something that matters so I get more information about that did the capitol movie was called Stacy whatever the Indian movie then I went and looked at the history and found it more interesting I don't like the viewers nothing against you guys personally you guys pretty cool but the bunch of idiots review the movie before you can tell the guys that were balls and didn't get it but this is a true horror movie if you ever experienced a woman that had really bad postpartum depression a woman who matters something deep into depression a woman who has killed herself because of depression a person who has committed suicide by cop that is true horror for the person living in it and the person and the people experience in it last night saying happy things experience but I'm glad that I went to experience it came out mentally well adjusted and understood what was going on today with me😊 but I left the experience of all the people first hand literally going through it this thing is not horror it is a TOTAL HORROR JUST ASK THE FOLK'S THAT LIVED ARE LIVING A GREAT ACTRESS SHE NEVER ACTED BEFORE AND ALSO DID THE SCORE FOR THIS MOVIE THAT'S HOW SHE ORIGINALLY MET TBE DIRECTORS, THANKS FER THE TIP ON MOMMY SHOW LIKE YOU GUYS

Well, you should know the sexual orientation of your partner before marrying him. That point was so greatly interwoven into the story. DES TEUFELS BAD is a movie you just need to appreciate how well it is done. But considering the world I can´t see myself going back there often if ever again. In Metallica´s words My Friend of Misery. So an 8,5/10 for the movie. If the repeat factor comes into it 6/10. And normally I can fit the two together. Not here! As a german I was actually happy that I didn´t had the option to turn off the english subtitles. They even helped me out with the austrian accents from time to time. 🙈
