I am an atheist from Israel and I never liked Craig arguments. What would you do if a terrorist would lunch rocket at innocent civilians but when you try to kill the terrorist, or at least destroy his Rocket launcher, you discover that the rocket launchers is located on top of a civilian building full with babies - at one hand you don't want to kill babies, at the other hand if you won't bomb the building the rocket launchers would continue to kill your civilians, at some point you have to warn the civilians and babies inside the building to evacuate, and if they don't evacuate you give them another chance and another chance but at some point you can't let the terrorists continue to bomb you so you have to bomb the building . with all due respect to the Palestinian babies , it's the responsibility of Israel to save her own Israeli civilians and Israeli babies from rockets

I was pretty conflicted bc as far as I could see all the atheist channels on yt (that i was interested in watching at least) were anti Judeo-Christian, but I grew up Muslim and I tried using their arguments against Islam, which was usually flimsy somehow. For example, many Christians didn't believe in/don't believe in the big bang or round earth, but in Islamic Sunday school I was taught that the big bang and round earth were written in the Quran itself. Even the one anti-Muslim channel i watched, Syeten didn't have very strong arguments against it either. Usually if there's an argument against Islam, it's against the fundamentalists and terrorists that everyone and their mother think are wrong, or its against moderates for practicing the same religion as those extremists, but there wasnt anything you could say against moderate islam itself. I thought I was just looking for excuses and that maybe Islam was really the most transcendent religion after all. It was only until before Ramadan where I heard my family refer to converts to Islam as Islam as "reverts". I tried to correct them, saying that revert is only if you went back to a religion you were practicing before converting to a different religion. But apparently, i was the one in the wrong, becuase in Islam it is said that everyone is born a Muslim. So when a non-Muslim becomes Muslim, they're essentially going back to their natural state. I understood it, but that concept still didnt sit right with me. Then during Ramadan I went to my local mosque for Ramadan where the imam tried to get the parents their to discourage their kids from straying from Islam. He was saying the usual stuff, yk how kids are being taught lgbt stuff in school, and how it was wrong and how parents should watch them and make sure their kids don't follow such things and leave Islam as a result. This neither surprised me nor even lowered my opinion of Islam, it was all stuff I already knew about it after all. What really got me was what he said after. He said, a parent whose children are Muslim, they will enjoy heaven. But no matter how much money someone has, if they didn't raise their kids to always stay with Islam, then that person is a loser, and will end up in hellfire. The money part is irrelevant of course, but the part about the whole "sins of the son", that solidified it for me that Islam, even in its moderate form is horrific. After all if it's joyous and worth celebrating for someone to "revert" to Islam, then what does that make someone who deconverts, someone who's leaving their natural state? Obviously, the only explanation is that that person is being guided by the devil. That's what my parents said to me the first time I stopped praying as a kid. Even without all the jihad or treatment of women or homophobia or whatever else has already had an excuse or explanation thought up, how could there be any justification for sending a parent to hell just because their child didn't stay Muslim their whole life, even as an adult. My parents once told me I should stay with Islam because of this reason, but being a kid I was confused with why they were so afraid. My parents would also scorn my lack of reverance with "don't you feel fear of Allah?" All internet atheism taught me was that hell was a bad thing, not really a big leap of logic there, but only Islam itself proved to me how gross it could be. Why would I ever want to live a life of fear and submission (Muslim means someone who submits to god), and try to trick myself into thinking that that is 99 different kinds of virtuous?

I would contend, however, that the reason she was willing to follow those voices is because her religion taught her that (A) God speaks to you and (B) dead kids go to Heaven but if you let them grow up they will probably sin and go to Hell. From her POV she was doing the best thing she could for her kids, which is (part of) why religion is so harmful.

My go-to with theists is to ask them if they'd follow through and obey if they were convinced that their god was telling them to do what the goat herder was willing to do and sacrifice their children. If they say anything other than immediate 100% "Yes", I'll tell them to talk to their preacher about their current crisis of faith, and that they should pray for the courage of their stated convictions.

@TheReaverOfDarkness I disagree. Most church pastors are well-spoken, charismatic and persuasive. They come across confident and put together. Sometimes people prop themselves up by pointing to a seemingly smarter person who agrees with their opinions. I emphasize "seemingly". The older I get, the more I realize how important education is, as well as staying informed. People can be talked into anything, and it's terrifying. This is evident with early Christianity. Only the wealthy were educated, so they would read the scriptures to the common people and tell them what it "means". So I think it's the opposite problem. Educated people are manipulating uneducated and uninformed people. Or just indoctrinating them from childhood. We need better education for everyone and more honesty. That's why I'm voting for Trump. The issue at hand is sin and God’s nature of being just. Sin brings suffering (the pleasure is short term, and the suffering is long term-on earth and in hell forever). God brings Righteousness (may have short term suffering followed by long term pleasure- on earth and in Heaven). If you love yourself repent of your sins (lying, hatred, unforgiveness, sexual sins, taking the Lord’s Name in vain, stealing, dishonouring your parents etc) & believe in Jesus for forgiveness of sins. (Jesus died on the Cross as a sacrifice and defeated death by rising from the dead)

Ever checked in with medical science to hear what it's said about people coming back to life after cell death has occurred? It hasn't said anything about it. It definitely rubs up against his own conscience (at least I hope it does), you see him get uncomfortable at the aspect of killing children for God but he ultimately falls back to "if God says it's right then it's right".

This is a big part of why I had to rethink Christianity. When I heard words like “God is just in sending people to hell” come out of my mouth, my brain started screaming at me. I’d rather listen to that part of my brain, the one that tells me there’s no excuse for eternal torture of anyone.

Good point. It's also not clear to me how he knows that God is the good entity in the first place. The honest good God would say "I say the truth, I'm the good God". The lying bad deity would say "I say the truth, I'm the good God." So how does he know? Judging by the actions-speak-louder-than-words standard, Yahweh did order the Canaanite slaughter, the great flood wiping out almost everything, doesn't uphold justice but forgives all the sinners but only if they ask *him* for forgiveness (when logically only the bereaved party should be able to forgive). Also dealing out infinite punishment for finite crimes doesn't seem very good-guy-ish to me. But hey... if God says he's the good guy, that settles it, thanks DR Craig...

The problem of Evil was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, but this seems like an even more daunting problem for Christians. Like if God's nature is perfectly consistent with morality, then how can he command seemingly evil acts. If morality is whatever Good says, is that not the ultimate moral relativism? This is also where the attributes of God clearly contradict. If God is omnipotent then of course he could command anything. The only problem is he's also all-loving and unchanging. I almost respect Craig for taking the problem seriously. Most Christians just try to rationalize it away cause the whole things starts to unravel.

i think you meant to say "killing", "murder" is a legal term, but also most people would say that killing in self defense is wrong, and also most people probably wouldn't say that killing hitler would be wrong, yet it would be by definition murder, since murder is *unlawful* killing of another human, so if you kill someone legally it's not a murder, yet you could still argue it's morally wrong, and you could argue that murder isn't always morally wrong, like if you were to kill literally hitler to prevent genocide or something

In a vision I was shown a person who claimed to be Christian but started fornication (premarital sex), He died relatively young and went to hell forever (1 Cor 6:9). I believe Craig is saying that all child death is because a person killed the child, but some of it is God directly killing children, whereas other times God has others commit the killing by proxy. Yeah, I don't see how he could possibly say the elementary school one is plausibly contrary to God's nature. Does he think there aren't plausibly any elementary schools filled with all children who will grow up to be evil, but it is entirely plausible that an entire nation of children would grow up to be evil and therefore should be killed before that?

Just to twist the knife a bit, Judaism doesn't have the same concept of an afterlife as Christianity does, the popular concepts of Heaven and Hell are very much a New Testament thing. The First Temple Era Israelites who wrote the first five books of the bible believed that when people die, they just die. In what christians call the 'old testament', there are essentially no references at all to people's souls going to a place of reward or punishment after death. The closest you get is a few sparse and vague references to a physical underworld called Sheol or Gehenna which isn't described in detail, and still isn't the same thing as Christian Hell. My point is that those dead children won't even go to Heaven, because there isn't one in the Hebrew Bible.
