Try the French version with subtitles..much clearer. This movie was filmed in English and French!

ΑΝΑΓΚΗ. Well, in modern Greek it means "need/nessesity", and it's pronounced as "anàgi". Although, for some reason, the author uses it to describe fate.

Don’t read the book then it also has a sad ending (which is the same as this one).

Quasimodo was barely 20 in the book,

John Aston? Nooooo..still too small..Quasimodo was a "giant,broken up and badly put together" Quasi possessed colossal strength ,from working out with Bells all day long!!

Quasimodo was young but extremely strong,Sean Astin is not big enough..you are talking like someone who is from WWE! Anthony Quinn was believable because he is 6'2" and played a strong man in another film.

Oh Wow! I thought I was the only one with a crush on Quasimodo! As a 10 year old ,I first saw this movie in the 50's and fell "in love" with this movie and Quasimodo! Dispite his deformities,was this "beautiful" person,who had the qualities of Kindness,loyalty,strength and courage!,and of course Love! So I was this weird kid with a crush on Quasi while all my school mates were in love with Ricky Nelson! Quasi was this Big Brother type,who would beat up a mean boyfriend,then go and buy you an ice cream cone! Now, I make all my kids watch this movie! (my Husband though, didn't look anything like Quasimodo! LOL!)

Problem I had with the 1939 version was it was totally different from the book. Frollo was the older brother and Jehan was Frollo,instead of the mischeivous younger brother of Claude Frollo. Quasimodo ,looked like a stuffed sausage instead of a man possessing immense physical strength(Quinn portayed this well) Maureen OHara was not Romani enough, but I did like Edmund O Brian as Gringoire, and Sir Cedric Hardwick as a Frollo.. Clopin was good in the 1939 version.missing were Djali the goat, and missing in most films was Esmeralda's mother. This version follows the deaths of Frollo and Esmeralda more closely to the book(except she was shot by an arrow ,not hung) But the best in this version ,was the sad ending,Quasi dying of heartbreak holding Esmeralda's dead body..

Live a few more years.....see if reality changes your opinions!

I'll have the songs from the Disney movie and also stay true to the novel by Victor Hugo and make it a dramatic gothic romantic thriller like it is in the book someday will be put in replacing God help the outcasts no gargoyles and no guy like u song and Esmeralda will not die and Pirre Grengior I forgot to cast will be Devon Bostick from Diary of a wimpy kid.

If it was my version, my cast would be Anna Kendrick-Esmeralda, Tom Hardy-Phoebus, Bob Hoskins-Clopin, Corey Feldman-Quasimodo, Detective Stabler/Alan Rickman-Frollo, Colin Morgan as Gringoire and that Mia actress who played Alice in the 2010 version 'Alice in Wonderland as Fleur-de-Lis

Yes..Josh Brolin is macho enough to play Quasimodo!
