A review of the Spark Cardigan designed by Andrea Mowry and an inside look as I cut the #steek of the cardigan!! You absolutely can steek and cut with super wash wool and here’s the proof!!!

Well done you! Your sweater is gorgeous. I think it's great that you knit it in an affordable, to most, yarn. I have a few things I do when knitting a steek that might work for your next steek. Often I'll make my steek a few stitches wider then suggested in the pattern. Cutting open a narrow steek makes me more nervous, and once the steek is open it's easy to cut that extra row or two off if needed (sometimes I'll leave it if it's not too bulky). With a wider steek once the reinforcement is done I'll take a light colored piece of wool and sew a long running stitch up where I want to to cut. That makes the cutting just a matter of following the line, and then pulling out the bits of running stitch yarn, but that's easy. I had one steek that didn't feel very stable to me, so I took some sewing thread and sewed an overcast stitch from the steek to the band. The steek has held, and I can't even see where the thread is, and at the time I felt it was best to try to save the sweater rather then worrying about doing something "weird". I know that people steek sweaters they've knit with super wash yarn, so don't rule it out completely. Your podcast is fabulous. I enjoy it so much, thank you for sharing your knitting with youtube. You mentioned other podcasts you've watched where the podcaster has knit this sweater, maybe you could mention one or two podcasts you enjoy in future episodes. I'm always looking for a new podcast.

Good morning Jan, thank you for sharing your steeking experiences! I love the idea of a larger steeking section. I’m ready to do another steeking project. I will definitely add the other podcasts I watched to the show notes of this episode thanks for bringing it to my attention.

G’day Dianne, geez I needed to go have a little gin tipple (or not so little) after watching you cut steak. Convinced I didn’t breathe from hearing chimes ring out 😮😮😂 Good on your husband having the 1st aid kit at the ready & stiff drink 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 we’ll done 👏👏👏👏🇦🇺

Don't blame yourself; I believe that Spincycle is super wash yarn! I've steeked sw before, and it is scary when you see the bits of stitches break off as you cut, but if you prep the edges well, all is fine! Well done, you!

your gasp was echoed quickly by mine - you're a brave soul, and you did it! your sweater's beautiful. i love cascade, too. the weird thing is that the sweater that i knit in cascade grew widthwise, not lengthwise 😲. i hope the new year's treating you well. keep up the good work!

Saw this notification before I took the dogs out for along walk and as soon as I got back I was straight to watching this video. The finished cardigan is absolutely beautiful. I personally hate Superwash wool as it always stretches beyond belief and just do not like it as opposed to pure wool. I think I must be a 'wool snob'! Anyway, as I sat here watching you doing the steek I had a thought which summed up your experience... steeking is like giving birth for the first time, you just don't know what to expect. Apologies for being so blunt but that is what came to my mind. Well, great that you accomplished your steeking mission without any issues. Sending big hugs as always, Sophie. X

It really shows that each one of your knits is created with love and care!❤ Watching from Czech republic, sending all the love! Keep up the good work :)

I ♥️ ur color choice. I can't believe u used variegrated yarn. As I mentioned b4 I'm very weak in color coordination. I've been looking at tutorials for this issue. I've seen a lot of podcasts that r crazy about Andrea Mowry and I don't get it. Thanks so much for the explanation on steaking etc. I would ♥️ if u could do a video from start to finish on a project. I realize it is not as easy as a podcast but am hopeful. U have a great site. 🥂
