The point is the viewer is going to want his/her money back because the ending of the film destroys what was building up to be a pretty decent film. We are shown the killer a the start of the film who has a different car than the suspect that comes into the film later on. The girl couldn't even recognize the later suspect so there is no point to the film if you ask me.. There's no plot and no twist as it's basically about how members of law enforcement can become so frustrated by these murders that they end up become just as corrupt as the serial killers. The whole point about a serial killer movie is to find out who the killer is at the end and I felt so let down after sticking with the film from the start only to be fed this bullshit ending which made no sense. The suspect we are told confessed to a murder already in the past but wasn't charged because he was exposed as a bit of a nut job who had a strong interest in serial killers. In fact the suspect was trying to drive home the message that he didn't kill those girls by fooling the detective into digging all those dead end holes. Yes, the suspect had milk in his bag which is common as muck on a spade as is the beer in that town I'd imagine.. This doesn't make him the killer for me and what about the serial killers car at the start? Why didn't they trace how many cars the later suspect had sold or purchased within that year? The film wasn't very clever for me as it's a dreadful ending to a perfectly good film but that ending wsa so empty it ruined the whole film which I thought was building up to some nice plot with a twist but nothing happened. THE END.

I think Deacon is a killer. I think he’s too experienced to shoot the girl. She was the last living witness. I think they were haunting him. But also some things don’t add up. He said that clip was from Deacon. But How did Deacon know what the clip looked like? Any ideas about my hypothesis? Deacon had on those boots that were a suspects. He fit them. Sparma said too the detective after being asked, if he knew where she was and he said, you don’t really want to know. I have so many things that make me think it’s actually Deacon.

I watched this movie twice and the second watching was very through. There are several possible clues to their being a serial killer with a possible accomplice. In the very first scene, the blue automobile was a 4 door Mercury with the license plate that read 2Fan321. We can see that gentleman who exits the car is a middle aged white male with short hair and glasses with an athletic build. A couple scenes later Deke drives up to LA sheriff building and parks his truck behind everyone so they can't move essentially. I found that kind of odd and a dick move, but if you look at the license plate on the back of the yellow SL550 Mercedes you will see the license plate number of 2Fan321. The license plate on the mercedes is newer than the one on the mercury but it has the same numbers so possibly owned by the same people. The Mercedes was parked in the front parking space which indicates he has been with the department for a while and is higher up. A few scenes later Deke is having a short and somewhat contentious conversation with a man named Roberts. Roberts immediately corrected Deke and told him he was detective sergeant now. Deke then asked Roberts if he was still padding his overtime. That clue alone can give pause that Roberts just had a promotion and with padded overtime he could possibly afford a nice mercedes. The same Mercedes with the same license plate in the first scene. Furthermore the scene after Deke climbs off the roof of Sparma's apartment, Detective Baxter tells Deke he has good and bad news. The bad news is Sparma did report the Harvester stolen. Who was the officer that failed to file the stolen car report. That would be detective sergeant Roberts. Seems to be me Roberts is either a terrible cop or he was just trying to cover his tracks. I think Sparma and Roberts know one another and worked together to kill these young ladys. Sparma is more into the hunt part and necrophilia while Roberts actually did the murders. Sparma would watch across the street at this dead young lady and fantasize sexually. He probably watched the killer kill her, but he couldnt do the act himself. The runner with the red barrette is interesting also. She tells her male friend that he didnt have to jog with her home and that it was only 3 blocks away. That indicated that she has plenty of energy left to continue her run. As she runs away a brown 2 door car that looks to be an older thunderbird follows behind. Couldnt see the license plate of that automobile because it was not shown. The only viable way that a young lady like that would talk to a stranger in a dark street would be some kind of law enforcement. If she sensed any danger from someone like Sparma's character she would have run way screaming which is the opposite of what a trained serial killer would want. But a law enforcement officer driving by and stopping to ask if she was ok could possibly get him close enough to drug her and place her in the back of car.

Also, a ladies watch amongst the newspaper clippings under the floor in Sparma's apartment. The denture was made of few teeth not a full one, just so to alter a bite mark ever so slightly hence avoiding being "caught". The doctor at the police station says "inconclusive" after examining the bite marks on the pizza slice. Why would Sparma hide the newspaper clippings under a floorboard covered by a rug if this was just a hobby. What was the content of the photo negatives hanging above the bathtub and why was the projection from the projector sideways? Was it to draw Denzel towards the area where he felt the floorboard make an odd sound so as to check under it?

it seems when Deke says it’s the little things that get you caught the second time he is referring to cops getting caught trying to cover their own crimes. When he says it the first time it seemed like he meant that’s how serial killers get caught but maybe he was talking about himself the first time and then both of them the second time. I watched it twice - great movie. I think I understand what happened. Leto's character is not the killer, he is someone who would like to be a cop, a "crime buff" as he describes himself. And he loves to troll people. He doesn't have souvenirs from any killings - he has newspaper clippings which are valuable to him so he keeps them in a safe place. The mile maker - 467 - that plays a key role in one scene in the middle of the movie was not publicly announced, but it did go out over the scanner. Every indication is that Leto's character knows what anyone who follows the police scanner and newspaper stories closely would know. The flaw that the two detectives have is also their greatest virtue - they simply get wrapped up in their jobs. Finding the killer is so important, it is hard for them to live the other portions of their lives knowing the killer is out there. They are dedicated. And they are haunted.

The wire on the girls hand in the apartment was the same wire in the shop you first see Leto. So I think it was him. He was always going to be one step ahead. He’s expecting cops to be cops and loved the dance and wasn’t expecting to be hit with a shovel that’s what changed the outcome, you’re expecting the bad guy monologue and instead got hit. he was going to kill the cop he does the finger gun and it was clear he was exhausting the cop by digging all those holes. He was probably going to get the gun from him and kill him and leave him out there which is why he didn’t want Denzel to tag along. He wanted to be famous and wanted this to keep going.

Deke's character said history repeats itself and it did. Two highly obsessive detectives killed an "innocent " person because of their ego. Thus the No Angels theme. Even as they spend their lives trying to bring peace to these women's souls they have a dark side. I think Swarma's character was the killer, but he was too good to get caught. He had become too refined as a killer over the years. He said the killings would go on and ultimately his own ego got him killed too.

Interesting ego theme. Is it rlly ego tho? Denzel’s murder was an accident. Which propelled him to become even more obsessive because that girls blood was on his hands. I think the ambiguous ending is deliberate in the sense that not all stories have a punchline. For me this film is more about the blurring of obsession. Each man has an interest in understanding more of the story and all three share similarities in the way they collect information and dwell on the small details. Leto even says to Malik in another life we could have been friends. It is also apparent that we understand by the end of the film that the only person we don't know is a killer for certain is Leto's character. For me this is one of the most subtle and thought provoking endings ever.

Leto was the killer. This wasn't really a mystery movie and it was clearly obvious from 30 minutes into it. Leto had a direct connection to the first murder victim that was shown. He worked at an appliance repair shop where the dead girl's appointment for the broken refridgerator was "cancelled". Leto obviously used his job to gain easy access into her apartment. Quit over-analyzing! Leto’s character didn’t kill anyone. The main take-away is that Denzel’s character “paid it forward”: Denzel’s character was “helped” by his work friends, now its time to “pay it forward” and help cover for Rami’s character, and also allow him to avoid living a life of self-torment, buy giving him the red hair clip. If leto’s character was the killer, they would’ve had denzel’s character find a red hair clip in his apartment!

Not trying to over analyze but I got more questions than answers. If Deke gave the package to Sal to deliver to Jimmy with the red barrette then why did he say I left Saturday morning to Jimmy for cover story? The barrette was to end Jimmy's torment that he killed the guy, to remind him a girl is still missing. The cops are no angels and the killer is right there Sgt Rogers is still walking free.

It wasn’t a crime drama, everyone is talking about who the killer was. It’s actually irrelevant to the story. This was always about Denzels character trying to save himself. In the opening scene, I believe they had Denzel play the Driver with the Boots. Deacon was complimented for wearing nice boots and the witness report mentioned the boots. Deacon proved he is adept at thinking like a stalker by discovering the room across the LA murder scene. Sparma said getting rid of a car and a body is hard work. Deacon did both in a 10 second movie montage. The driver passed out of sight then stopped on the road to wait for the woman to pass. Deacon passed , went out of sight then stopped on the road. When Deacon say a group of girls on the road listening to music, he drove up beside them. The Driver pulled up beside the girl while she was singing to music. Deacon had a powerful flashlight similar to the Driver Deacon had tin can object similar to the Driver. The Driver used duct tape. The LA murder scene had no signs of duct tape. Police men are trained to restrain and would have the skill to restrain with duct tape. The movie gave all the "90's thriller clues" necessary to demonstrate that Deacon was the Driver with the Boots. Deacon took the keys out of the car in the same "style" as the Driver with Boots removes keys. Denzel gets Oscars for mastering mannerisms and making them look casual.

That's it exactly, couldn't have said it better myself.. There was not plot or twist as the film is about how serial killers can drive cops to the edge of insanity which in turn causes the cops to become just as corrupt as the serial killers themselves. For me the lesson to be learned here is there'd be less women raped and murdered if they were allowed their constitutional rights to bear arms.. A dead rapist is one less to put up with in socieity.. We live in a socialist world now and people are so perverted by leftist politicians and brainwashing by the media they don't even know what freedom is anymore. How many serial killers would we have if they knew that all women had the right to bear arms (carry a gun) for protection? We live in a sick world and I hate to see what these evil politicans have done to what was once a great country the United States of America. Film after film after film shows us that the cops can't guarantee the citizens protection yet their message is for us not to carry guns to protect ourselves as they can accomplish this impossible feat. We would have less america serial killer films if the citizens were allowed to protect themselves. People are so dumb, docile and submissive now the end is nigh..

This film does reveal who the real killer was, I'm surprised that no one figured it out. The real killer is Sergeant Rogers. I froze framed the film in the beginning and the killer was a short white man with short hair and no facial hair. So that eliminates Denzel and Leto. I looked at the license plate that the killer was driving in the beginning when he was going after the witness and it read 2FAN321. As Denzel was driving into the precinct in which he used to work at there was a little Mercedes in a corner spot with a license plate which read (Any Guesses Here) 2FAN321. Rogers was just promoted, so he could afford that car being second in command at the precinct. Denzel quipped that Rogers loved money, he padded his overtimes. So he would be the type to drive a flashy car and take advantage of a perk, by parking his car in a corner spot. Furthermore, Rogers wanted Sparma to be the fall guy, so he he didn't file Sparma's stolen car report. Why would a killer risk possibly incriminating himself. Rogers thought that that certainly pointed away from Sparma as being the killer. So, he framed him by neglecting to file Leto's stolen car report. Also, the jogger was a mere three blocks from her home, how could Leto have chased her down? It had to be a cop, who stoped to talk to her and abducted her. That is why it was shown that Sparma had a noticeable limp. Now Rogers will just change his M.O., as like Detroit, Los Angeles is a big city too.

First off, Denzel asks Malek if he thinks it’s worth it to keep waiting. I think Denzel was at the point to where he just wanted these scum bags killed. Then If you remember that SUV was abandoned with 22,000 miles, no clues or fingerprints. Move ahead. After Malek kills Leto’s character, Denzel takes Leto’s car and throws the keys to some guys who strip it. Then Denzel burns everything in Leto’s house. He can’t find the Red Barrett and so he buys one. I think Denzel kind of planned this whole thing. He walked to that store so Leto could see him. He then spent too much time getting two cups of coffee. I think Denzel wanted Malek to snap and kill Leto who really was the serial killer. Then Denzel wanted to protect Malek. I think Denzel believed/knew Leto wasn’t the killer. That’s why he gave Rami the red barrette too easy his nerves so that he didn’t go down the same path of stressing over it and losing his family etc. Leto had a police radio in his house and followed the crimes closely. He “falsely” confessed to the double/triple homicide where Denzels killed character someone. But they may have let him off because he obviously didn’t kill one of the girls and a trial and investigation would reveal what Denzel and the department did. I believe he did the double homicide years ago and probably others as well and that’s why Denzels character was okay with him dying and why he helped cover it up and justify it. The fact that he makes Rami dig hole (even tho nothing is there) points to me that he is better at covering up his crimes, meaning little to no evidence. As for the main murder of the girl in the apartment. I think the guy who swollen the 12 gauge did it, and killed himself because he was going to be pinned for a lot more murders. That or Leto really killed him because he was getting credit for a murder he did. I do think Leto went to the apartment afterward and moved the body and shaved the legs. He may have even been the one looking through the window across the street while the murder was happening. He gets off on this type of stuff which the movie made clear. I think the point of the movie was that Letos character was “no angel” and even if he didn’t do any of the crimes, he was just as sick as someone who would.

I don’t think Sparma was the killer but I do believe he knew who the killer was and followed/helped him. First off, the man chasing the woman in the beginning was driving a different car than what Sparma was driving. The short glimps we get of the guy chasing the woman didn’t have long hair and a beard. We know Sparma is a crime buff. He commented on the photos at the police station mentioning that the photos are “no Weegee” the nickname of a Arthur Felling, a famous 1930’s/40’s crime photographer. Sparma even had a darkroom in his apartment. Sparma also had a bunch of books about serial killers in his apartment as well. I believe that Sparma watched the murder of the woman in her apartment from the empty building across the street. When the killer left that’s when Sparma went into the apartment with groceries and moved the body into a different position to photograph her. At the end, the FBI describes what kind of person the killer is most likely going to be. A loner with a job that he can pick up and go without much fuss and most likely had two cars. Yet the car in the beginning was blue and the car following the female jogger was a Tan/brown car. Neither matches Sparma’s two vehicles. Overall, Sparma was a wacko but not the killer. That’s why I think Sparma didn’t mind taunting the detectives. He got off on them thinking he was the killer. Deacon cleaned out his apartment and was visibly distraught that he didn’t find any evidence but to give Baxter some piece of mind and free him of the burden that he held for so long when he accidentally murdered the woman, he decided to send Baxter the red hair clip which at the end you see he bought.

Letos character isn’t the killer. He’s been trying to take the fall since he confessed. Remember that body they found in the apartment. It had been moved two days after she was killed. I think Leto moved the body realizing that this would finally allow the cops to look into him. He was supposed to go fix her fridge, so he could have found the dead body first and not report it. Leto knew that they couldn't catch him and it all became a game to him. The girl at the beginning recognized him when she was at the station. In my opinion Leto was definitely the killer.

The killer is detective Roberts. The brown car used to pick up the jogger was Roberts car, we see it in the car park at the cop shop a few times. Leto I believe went to fix the fridge broke in and found his play toy dead.The other victims where drugged moved stabbed and left to die. The victim in the unit was moved n tied up after death with the TV cable we see at Leto's work. Robert n Leto may have been working together. It's the little things

I think Leto is not the killer. Remember the opening scene the girl was chased by a car that is different than Leto car and the guy is not long hair. He could be watching the girl suffering siting at the chair.

Leto and Denzel. Leto stated the pizza toppings during the interrogation and Denzel was the only cop that didn’t jump when the power came back on in the apartment but jumped when the girl walked out the bushes? He shot to keep her from talking and Leto was Denzel’s coverup. Funny how both left LA for 5 years and started back up as they both returned 🧐 plus guy in the beginning didn’t do anything but chase so it was something to throw the viewers off.

Leto was not the big bad killer in the film in the very beginning the killer (who chase's the girl with the car) has short hair and no beard... Leto never drives any of the cars we see the "killer" driver... However Leto may have killed that one girl that was found in her own apartment... We'll never know

I think the fact that the film went out of its way to show Deacon mailing the red pin (or whatever it’s called) to Jimmy to ease his conscious is a sign that Sparma wasn’t the killer. To me it doesn’t make much sense for Sparma to be the killer, Jimmy killing the killer, and then Deacon faking the truth for Jimmy’s sake when in fact it is the truth. At least that’s the way I read it. It’s a movie about how cases affect people, and that’s what we got, not a story of a killer being brought to justice. That’s my view anyways, I liked the film quite a bit.

So the main reason that I believe that Deac wasn't the killer is because that girl in the beginning was already stabbed several times before he shot her. And I think that was Deacon's way of making amends and making peace by not resting until he put the killer in the ground or away. Since he was the deciding factor as to why she died.
@myreview-aaronfischer
@myreview-aaronfischer Год назад
I know for a fact he wasn’t the killer. It wouldn’t make sense. Biggest clue was when they were investigating the one murder and he went to the building across the street. He wasn’t a man returning to his own crime scene.

@@myreview-aaronfischer I'm curious as to why they only showed Deacons boots at the end. Like we have this gut feeling he's the killer but we ignore it. Kinda like when he's talking to the lady that they're about to do an autopsy on.

The question is not about whether or not Sparma was guilty. The question is about how questionable perception is. Do we still perceive Deek and Baxter as the good guys even though they may have killed an innocent person and just give them a pass? Is it okay that Sparma was the focus of an investigation for no concrete reason? Is it okay to not care that Sparma was killed by Baxter? People who are not considered attractive, and/or are not like most people in terms of personality /behaviour, and/or are not affluent tend to be unfairly treated by society... that includes law enforcement. These people have longer sentences, and there is a higher amount of importance and credibility placed on circumstantial evidence than people who are attractive, have money, and have professions that society think imply integrity. Sparma was basically a "loser", likely always had trouble getting a date, and a loner... I think a lot of that was because he was on the spectrum. What is overlooked is that there was a carousel projector aimed at an empty frame on the wall and the lone chair next to it where he can look at photographs... Deek turned it on and it showed a photo of two older people... likely Sparma's parents. Basically I think Sparma's false confession and baiting was more based on his need to matter to somebody - whatever form that may come in.

A theory but it could be true baxter was the serial killer and denzel was innocent he probably thought baxter was innocent but i dont think he did Washington was a good cop the clues kept leading to baxter the wife asked if he had put the security system on which he seemed hesitant because he couldnt leave as easily as needed, he always kept a eye on washington, he always had a look of guilt and denzel basically told him how to avoids flaws in his story because “the little things” he said clued washington in that he was his suspect baxter also told him in order to solve his case he would need to solve the present case first which would mean denzel would get caught and everyone who helped as well also the man seen abducting in the beginning seemed small white and only had a small amount of facial hair leto couldnt have grown a full face in such a short time but if they didnt pend it on someone then the feds would keep investigating and going deeper into the case and he just wants his life back with nothing hanging over him
@brie1k_
@brie1k_ 3 месяца назад
Also at the end baxter seemed shaken but what if it is because the fed are now investigating and he was scared they’d find out right after they gave a description of the suspect of the possible killer dectective sal stopped by his house and gave him the letter from joe which he seems scared to hear sal dropped by but the note “no angels” and the barrette which was his evidence that it was him who was the murderer and no angels was a message letting him know i know it was u and then they flashed to joe and his murder evidence which was the bullet leto was just a weirdo who was into that stuff but probably never acted on it
